  • Typically in a "lesson" you explain what you're doing, and why...this is just "hey look at me!"

  • hej thomas!

  • @MarloweDK Lidt musicman-ish, right?

  • DVD..!!??

  • Great playing, but I think people would appreciate a bit of theory behind a fill lesson rather than 'monkey see monkey do'.

I think if people understand what you are playing then it would help a lot more.

You did a fantastic lesson explaining basic fills previously, that was a milestone for me personally.

Keep up the good work, you do more for bassists than anyone else in history!

  • This guy must have a black guy dick.

  • Marlowe got 1282392949 Basses and one black Strat^^

  • yummy

  • how many bass u do u have i cant count

  • If I wasn't dirt broke, I'd go out and buy a bass guitar right this minute.

  • Marlowe, I was wondering if you might be able to post a video slowing down funk and jazz licks on the bass, because I hear them all the time, and just can't properly figure them out. you may already have a vid but i cant find it

  • @kkbforizzle I have 20 -300 vidoes where i slow down funk licks and a couple of jazzy ones too;-) Just search my videos

  • Any chance you can post the second half of Stanley Clarke's Stories to Tell bass solo at at a SLOW speed? I would very impressed if you can do this.

    thanks

  • Sweet sound man, i am thinking of getting another BASS and will be jamming at home, what is your AMP set-up, i am no pro and just mess around with the bass at home, most likely will get another 75 Re-issue Fender but was wondering what will be a pretty good AMP, thanks for a great video.

  • @MARKLINMAN1 im pretty sure he uses the TC Electronic Rebel head amp

  • more excellent stuff from MarloweDK - an inspiration!! - thanks again for letting me pinch your riffs and making them my own...by the way irocknj, is this an open invitation?

  • guitar on steroids... nice!

  • awesome but... somehow this isnt really teaching me anything.

    any suggestions?

  • Nice bass, bro!! Can you just tell me how many basses do you have??

  • the best!!!

  • can i ask a simple question. how often should you change your strings if you only have 2 basses?

  • If you gig a lot then every month or so, but otherwise every 6 months+ is fine. If you clean your strings often you can probably extend it a good bit longer.

  • buy DR strings...more expensive but they last a lot longer

  • change em when they start sounding dead...

  • when they snap :P or just when the winding on the strings start to peel off. or if the strings are turning black.

  • @ThatSillyMosher mine are still going after 13 years... sounds great, but i should try some new marcus miller signature strings some time....

  • I think (and saw) that you play more than the 4 strings you mentioned. You also hit the B. Or am I wrong?? I mention this only for those who don't play more than a 4 string and cannot figure out where those few low notes come from.

  • theres clearly some notes on the b string in the main riff

  • The lowest note played is the open E string. He's not hitting the B at all.

  • He's playing the low B for muted ghost notes between the A and G notes at the start of the riff.

    Hope that helps

  • is that galveston? if so i got that same guitar.

  • Great stuff Marlowe as always. If you ever need a place to crash while visiting Nyc you can crash here.

  • Tx man, ill remember that;-)

  • Hy! Im from Hungary and I learn bass guitar for teacher too...but your videos are very good! thank's !:)

  • hey.. Im Brazilian and I learn a lot with your videos... Im autodidactic and I don't have knowledge of the musical theory but I think I have talent.. hahaha... it continues putting these videos that I continue to learn these grovies and fills...

    thank's

  • Would starting out with a 5 string bass work for a beginner? I'm new to bass, but not new to the guitar, so..?

  • Honestly it would be better to start with a 4 string, since the 5 string just simply adds a low B string to your arsenal. And the 4 string has the last 4 string of a guitar, and has less strings. I suggest starting there and then work your way up if you want to.

  • cool..=)

  • whats goin on at 51 seconds

  • there called hammer on's

  • he's also playing up an octave when he hammers on

  • grAn video, me encanta tu bajo

  • can you help me understand why this is so heavily based around the minor third, yet you choose to list it as a dominant fill?

  • While the feel in this is funk, the dominant is a blue chord, and the minor and major thirds just work so well together in the blues :)

  • Man, that's no minor third. We theory geeks call that a sharp 9th.

  • Sharp 9 or sharp 2 or flat 3 or flat 10..still a minor 3rd none the less.

  • Except that tonal music doesn't typically permit split thirds. And this is clearly tonal music. Since that major third exists in this passage and there is very little use of the natural 2nd scale degree, then it only makes sense to call it a sharp 2 or sharp 9. Not that it's worth arguing about since the fretted electric bass is an instrument on which enharmonics actually are equivalent.

  • great video and sick lick

  • Thanks for the great lesson. One question though... on the fast part of the fill, are you using two or three fingers with your right hand?

  • BLnoteUE: It doesn't really matter, does it? Use as many fingers as you like. Use a steak knife if it makes you happy, as long as you can produce the same notes!

  • killer tone dude.. nice groove

  • I really like your grooves and I really appreciate the time you take to do all this, Thanks man! you are the best!

  • Nice! Didn't take you long to adjust to the 6-er did it?

  • You just need to treat it as a 4 string with a thumb rest (B string )and a railing (C string):-)

  • Lol I do it too.

  • I thing I need to find something better to do with my time than wait and check religiously for your new vids... I have been the first view on this and the last vid, and I am sure I will be on the next. I like this on, pretty laid back and relaxed.
