Can she really swim on herself to the surface? I understand the camera has neutral buoyancy, but the change in hydrodynamic isn't enough to keep it from swimming?

But like he mentioned, when they are running towards the pool cause a scary dog is sniffing them in the face they like to jump down and sit on the bottom for awhile. It didn't even move its limbs so it wasn't trying to move at that moment. Be interesting to see though how it looked when she/he was swimming around. =P

@nophwa Its a red eared. It can easily be seen even in the first picture in the video were it shows the red stripes behind its eyes. The yellow bellied doesnt have thouse. Also, i think that it can hold its breath a few minutes is an understatment. Thouse damn things practically sleep under water, automaticly floating up when they need breath only to sink down again after. :P

just so everyone knows, the reason that the video is sharp out of water and blurry in the water is because of an issue with the GoPro Hero HD's outer lens being curved. Because of this - image quality decreases when submerged. The Hero HD's housing can withstand water pressure up to 180; unfortunately for us underwater-aficionados quality is lost immediately. Please go to the official GoPro page and please ask them for a fix - thanks! also cute turtle ^^

@mechanism8 The turtle swam up once just fine. They are able to stay underwater for long periods without a breath so predators can't eat them. Hell in the winter when they brumate under the ice, they absorb oxygen through their skin.

If the turtle is saltwater & the owner is constantly ensuring that the pool is at a saline level that the turtle can tolerate, then there's no problem with letting it swim in there.

Turtles are alot more clever and faster than you've been lead to believe. I had box turtle for 12 years and it dug a passway under my backyard fence that led to a creek. It always came back when I put its food out on my deck. This is great vid!
