Indiana has boiler laws. Each boiler we have has a plackard from the state. We hydro-test every single boiler operating on the grounds 2 times its operating pressure once, then 1.5 times each year after. We have NEVER had a boiler explosion. We haven't even had the flushable plugs melt on a boiler. The Shay was damaged by a fire from an incorrectly extinguished firebox in the Henschel and Sohn locomotive.

what shay accident, the fire was apparently caused by an arson which happens alot to railroad buildings. and it was not an explosion as said below, it was a fire. If they weren't a safe place, then porter #2 would be up and running already, rather than watiing for her new boiler. (the old one passed all the tests)

Its not the hydrotest that is the main thing is done but they need no ultrasound the
boilers also. The FRA does not check this
place because it is not connected to any
outside railroads but they need to do them
like eveybody else.

oh, i heard and saw photos that it was in a roundhouse fire. and it got damaged. i dont ever recall it being blown up. and no i havent been.

it didn't blow up but it was in a fire caused be a explosion. The engine now rules the rails. Have you gone
