When I remember back to the many locations from the games I played as a child, I can somehow see them as these full and detailed environments, just as vivid and real as a memory of any other place, with an almost otherworldly air.
I guess all that stuff they say about the power of a child's imagination is actually true.
Box art is a bit misleading sometimes. I think you have to look at it as more of an artists rendering of the game description or basic story. It's similar to fiction book cover art. There's a visual representation of some aspect of the novel on the cover, but it really doesn't reflect the book as a whole, and can sometimes be misleading. Even some video box cover art has utilized this trick of the trade, particularly in the 70s and 80s.
Glad to see you're still makiing videos and very inciteful ones no less! it made me think of my own childhood and playing castlevania on the gameboy. I stll have trouble when i think nostalgically differentiating box art such as castlevania from the actual graphics, atmosphere and experience. box art I think meant a lot more back then than it does nowadays.
well boxart was sometimes used to represent what the game was actually "mend to be" and often the first impression also makes the whole thing feel a bit like that (so good box art could back in the day save the game). And as most games were aimed at kids and kids have more imagination then grownups, so that effect is even bigger. I think you get the point. (BTW I have to study this for school as I am a student of game design)

The music, is it from the opening of Ninja Gaiden 2, James Bond, or Yun's stage music from Street Fighter III? Or all three?
