my brother ships out in 6 weeksto be in iraq for 14 months as a combat engineer. i know he wil be ok cause hes riding in a m11 17 guardian asp.armor builto withstand roadside bombs rpgs and 50. cal bullets

I'm glad you are okay. I was a radio tech and went to electronics school for almost a year. Within two months after completing school and checking into my unit, we were deployed to the first Persian Gulf conflict in August 1990. After two years and one UDP in Okinawa/Philippines we were headed to Somalia. I believe with the ramp up in troops to Afghanistan and the reduction of troops in Iraq, you will see much more Marines headed into conflict, unfortunately.

Remember these Marines have just graduated and most of these Marines are about to go to war. You'll be very motivated once you are a Marine and not a nasty recruit/civilian. Stay focused my friend and you will achieve the title of Marine and serve as we did. Remember Marines fight hard and party harder. You'll understand once they put the EGA in your hand.

Not many go to war. The infantry, artillery, tanks, and such obviously do, but many others don't. I've been overseas to five different countries; none of them were a war zone. My EAS is coming around the corner quickly, and I've never seen Iraq or Afghanistan. Going to war depends much on which unit you get assigned to once you're done with MOS school.
