In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
up your bow on the violin and try to balance the bow with only your right thumb and index finger, i.e. raise the other fingers and relax them especially the pinky. try to feel that only the two fingers (thumb and index fingers) are good enough to hold/balance the bow on the violin, just put back the other fingers on the right places of the bow very relax. hope this help.
I struggle at playin straight from middle to frog. Does the bending of wrist result from really bending the wrist or is it done by pulling ur bow inward. Its hard to play straight in a slow pace at that bow section
You might want to note that there are other schools of playing that do not emphasize a bent pinky, and that it is not necessary to put the pinky on the bow for the upper half of the bow. (For the most elegant demonstration of how to hold a bow, why not search for "David Oistrakh" on youtube? :) )
i think David Oistrikh used the french bowing im not 100% sure .. opposed to the pinky on the bow is the galamian method used by Perlman.. there is a running argument about various bow grips but its not just a matter of aesthetic but ergonomics to the individuals hand and how much effort or not is used in tone production
ive never had problems with the end strings, just the middle ones
