Hardcore and hardstyle are still going strong in The Netherlands, there's a party of either genre once a month or so at the club where I volunteer.

I also enjoy happy hardcore occasionally, but the harder stuff hasn't changed in over a decade and it hasn't the same emotional/nostalgic impact as the more melodic hardcore.
