I remember watching this the night of the broadcast. It's so clear she's on something, and Letterman handles her as well as anyone can. It's great to see such a polished performer put on the spot and handle it as well as David does. Classic television moment.

One of the greatest awkward moments in the television history , Letterman thought that her hairdo was a joke and intended to be funny that's why he made those comments and when he realized that he had made a tremendous embarrassing mistake it was too late and Miss Kinski had become too self conscious to continue with the interview , you don't see it here I guess but she called Dave " weird " and walked off the stage after the commercial break .

It compares to the beauty of old hollywood actresses like Ingrid Bergman and Sophia Loren, at this time in the 80's they really thought of her as one of those screen goddesses that's why Letterman was reading off all those names. She was one of the 80's IT girls. She seems really odd here. lol. But she's very young and trying to be different.

She was doing a parody of her father, Klaus Kinski, on an earlier German talk show. She even used some of her father's own language. Her parody failed because how was anybody in the U.S. supposed to know?  Maybe it was intended as an inside joke for her and her close circle of friends and fans, I don't know. But for those of us who did see that earlier interview it's clear what she's doing.

Just intrigued to know, from a purely personal interest, if you were on David Letterman, watched by millions of people around the globe, would you feel absolutely calm and anxiety-free. Not trying to be combative, just want to know how other people would react in those kinds of situations. For myself I would be extremely anxious, I'm always surprised by how cooly people take these kinds of things, whether they're in show-business or not. But maybe I'm just a terrible neurotic.
