My best friend was just put in a rehab type of place, basically it's a hell hole. She had a breakdown because her father just died, her boyfriend cheated on her, and she also struggles with substance abuse. I have had a lot of emotional problems in my life, and she has been there for me, and now I have to be the strong one. So watching this, and reading the comments...I am so glad I'm not alone. Depression is something very serious.

I had to watch it a few times but what I inferred:

You had a friend that was sick and was depressed, and kept to himself a lot. So you being a good friend tried your best to lift them out of their sadness and to enjoy what little time they may have had left, but your friend was stuck in their own depressing world. Eventually they passed and that depressed person became you, drawing, keeping to yourself, You were sad. You setting the boat in the lake was a metaphor for you letting go. I cried...

so my father died exactly 4 years ago, and this video reminds me precisely of him. he had diabetes and kidney failure but never told me how sick he was, how he wasn't the man he used to be. he would just smile and love me and when he died, it occurred to me how harsh i must have been on him for the little things.

So just a guess. The way I saw the movie it was two friends, one who was depressed and one who didn't know how to help the other. The other friend tried to lift the first out of his sadness, but it wasn't within his control. So at the end, with the boat. I took that as either the friend dying, or, in less morbid terms, the friend played by pj accepting that there wasn't anything he could do for his friend.
