I must admit, I probably wouldn't use the video recording feature, but I wish someone could open up the micro adjustment, that would be very useful indeed. Looks doubtful it will happen though considering the camera is 4 years old now...

a) its a CMOS (BIG difference)

b) do you hear a shutter opening and closing at least 24 times a second? me neither! it runs within the live view mode so the shutter is actually not used for filming

There is "EOS Camera Movie Record" freeware app available for a long time already. It actually does the same - records HD movies with any EOS camera that does not support video mode but has a Live View function. The only downside - it records video without sound, of course.

It really isn't. Theoretically, any DSLR that can do live view can do video! It's just a matter of providing the firmware for it to write the video to it's card.

I'm eagerly awaiting this release ;) :)

Because he's working to try and integrate additions into a very complicated piece of technology.

What he's doing is recording the video output that is usually just displayed on the screen for live view.

It isnt a firmware replace,

just a piece of code that runs from the CF.

(and let the cam think that its new firmware).

When the camera gives an error, you can remove the CF and the battery, after a while replace the CF and battery and there you go without any change!

Why did I get a thumbs down? Hacked firmware updates do void canon warranties.

Ya it is just a software replacement but that is the deal with most companies that manufacture something like this. Updating your camera with unofficial firmware does void the warranty. It doesn't hurt the camera at all but canon doesn't want to pay for it if it does.

Ahh I didn't realize that. I thought it updated the firmware. Firmware updates are don't through the CF card also but they run from the camera not the CF card.

This is a software update that allows you to record Video on your 40D. The video is recorded on the DSLR and then transfered via conventional means to the PC. It has NOTHING to do with wireless...

Clearly you don't work in the consumer electronics industry. There are lots of products for sale that are capable of doing more but limited by the manufacturer to protect their product lines and revenues. I have designed a couple myself.

I have a 400D and have thought about doing some star trails / light painting. I couldn't find anything online about damaging sensors with long exposures, just that the images would become noisy. If you have any references I'd be interested in them.

honestly imo not worth it. i prefer to get one item per one job. for photos i use an slr. for videos, i use a camcorder. cuz each one specializes in its own tasks, so getting an slr to do a camcorder's job and vice versa, will give you shit results.

Have you seen 5D MKII shots with iS? Today at newyears eve I used it and the images where superb. The whole family and friends where amazed.

If used properly it can give you amazing results.

DO take in account I'm a student/intern and don't earn THAT Much. Still the 5DMKII footage is awesome..... really is.
