the original m3 was not known for the engine, it was known for the handling. you should swap in the m3 suspension and steering rack, not the engine. get the e36 m3 engine, that is a real swap.

to pistta:the original m3 only came in coupe.

actually the original M3 had an amazing little engine that was better suited for the handling of the car. It was much lighter and higher reving than the newer M3s. Not to mention you could get massive amounts of power for the size and weight of the engine thus making it a much better choice if you want better handling for the track or in the twisties but if you want something for just around town hey any S engine is fair game :)
