  • That is to say sexual reproduction provides variability and thusly better chance for accommodation to the environment. Non-sexual reproduction (also known as partenogenesis - not to be mistaken with the way gastropods reproduce - the word is derived from the Greek 'partenos' = 'virgin' and not the English 'part') on the other hand provides speed and allows for more generations within a single mating cycle.

  • You should also know (just to make you feel bad)that birds having a set of genetic differences from mammals such as homozygotic XX males and heterozygotic females XY(it's the reverse in mammals) are also able to reproduce non-sexually - in many bird species as a rule the application of sexual reproduction and non-sexual auto-induction of the egg development are rotated in order to exploit the benefits of both methods.

  • major lulz

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Not the baby chickens!

Good thing store bought eggs arent fertilized.

  • define life

if the egg had the potential to become a chicken if the hen was fertilized first isn't it the same thing

that's why i don't buy into people trying to make it seem any more humane - i don't need to reassure myself that i'm not a monster by making up slippery definitions on what's wrong or what's right

  • irrelevent. we as animals are destined to kill something else TO SURVIVE but hunting for sport or destroying eggs (which may or may not be fertilized) shows a lack of respect for the natural order in which we live. the thing is though in regards to your comment. if the egg was fertilized and he smashed it then it would be a similar thing.

however, the point was to make a joke about fetchs recklessness and lack of respect for the world he lives in.

  • Also called meat spots. Occasionally found on an egg yolk. Contrary to popular opinion, these tiny spots do not indicate a fertilized egg. Rather, they are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface during formation of the egg or by a similar accident in the wall of the oviduct. Less than 1% of all eggs produced have blood spots. As an egg ages, the yolk takes up water from the albumen to dilute the blood spot so, in actuality, a blood spot indicates that the egg is fresh.

  • Paul Fetch is a monster & an attention whore!

  • aww this made me cry... lol

  • holy crap I forgot they sell chicken eggs that actually hatch into chickens at grocery stores !RETARD !

  • I've gotten a fertile egg out of an egg carton... dumbass.

  • Im not saying it doesnt happen . . . im just saying the chances of it happening are one in one thousand . . .not so smart person.

  • Quote: "holy crap I forgot they sell chicken eggs that actually hatch into chickens at grocery stores !RETARD !"

Sure.. sound's like it. You did say that it doesn't happen, and you didn't say anything about low chance. I repeat; Dumbass.

  • Whatever. go buy a live chicken egg at a grocey store, . . . WAIT A FREAKIN MINUTE !!!do you know what temperature they store eggs at ?A very low one I suppose, and chicken eggs need heat . . .and im not a donkey quit using words out of context.

  • Seriously dude, you're repeating yourself after being proven wrong? Wow.

As I said before, I have gotten a fertile egg from the grocery store. I found out it was fertile AFTER I had it in the refrigerator at a very low temperature for days.

Something gives me the idea you live in the city...

  • Well fine, but I dont live in the city im 50/50 city country.

  • No, regular chain grocery stores purchase eggs from egg farms. There are no roosters with the hens, so a fertile egg is 100% impossible. Chickens will lay eggs with no rooster around and the eggs will never create a chick.

  • I have gotten some a few times. It is extremely rare, but not impossible by any means. It's like a double yolk egg.. only it happens slightly less often.

Don't ask me how it happens, but it does..

  • No disrespect intended. It's just that egg farms do not have roosters. They buy female chicks from hatcheries to replace thier layers periodically. hens will lay eggs at a certain age and this is regardless of whether a male is present. The eggs will be 100% totally infertile since no male is on the premisies. NO male=NO fetility. Some small rural town stores get eggs from local farms and those can be fertile but none of the chains do. Double yolkers are common in jumbo eggs. My birds lay those

  • I have dealt with chickens most of my life, and I know how reproduction works. I am quite aware that you must have a male to reproduce. The fact still remains though, that I have infact gotten fertile eggs from an egg carton. Non-fertile eggs do not bleed when you scramble them.
