Yes, volunteers do have an idea of what to expect during a stage hypnosis show but most if not all have no understanding of hypnosis and don’t really know what they are getting themselves into. Many are no aware that could experience complete loss of control and not be able to refuse suggestions.

Is the explanation truthful or misleading and inaccurate? i.e. comparing the state of trance that occurs during stage hypnosis with the natural states of trance that can occur while watching TV, reading, driving or fishing.
Do you tell people they will be able to refuse any suggestion and come of trance at any time of their choosing? Yes, people do believe they had a better time than the audience because of the endorphin release. They also can feel that may because of their expectations (whether their own of those given to them by the hypnotist) as well as pre and post hypnotic suggestions. That’s one of the problems I have with stage hypnosis.
The effects can make people feel good about doing things they shouldn’t feel good about. Hypnotists do deliberately try to affect how people will feel they come out of trance. It’s what I call a hypnotic con-job.
@philbio66 People under hypnosis are not under the control of the hypnotist. These stage hypnotism bits are staged. Real hypnotists work through suggestions, not commands, an the person under hypnosis can refuse a suggestion he or she finds illogical or against their morals.

A person who has undergone ritual abuse or even non-ritual traumatic abuse of some sort who develops a splinter personality, though the dominant personality may be against the command morally, the recessive one, who may not hold to the same moral code can take over during that time and carry out the commands.
