Silpheed has one of the best uses of FMV in a game, providing the background graphics. The nicest bit is that they even look somewhat like the in-game graphics, instead of being way over-rendered in comparison.
Shame I'm so bad at it, I never get to see past stage 3 on my own :P
I almost cried when i saw this stage on the ps2 version. No mid-game normal-to-hyperspace jumping, no immersive music, no gauges vibrating, no hyperspeed feeling... just a cycling lame animation in the background :'(
@Tamanozke i guess this is a clear example of how a game that has got love and detailing in his production can beat by far a, almost ten year, dramatically "improved" in technology, remake. In the end is the good work and not the graphics what becomes impressive (This silpheed lasers and disintegrations still make me wanna run for cover, even being a bunch of pollygons getting apart..the new gen ones just make me stare at them and say oooh shiny :|)
I see how this boss is now as you mentioned, you're not kidding! He was the only one who escaped because I was playing too defensive.

One of the best vert shooters ever. Also possibly the most unknown, I played the first Silpheed on dos, still good but this tops it.
