  • Awesome work Gina! I've been thinking of starting this project but was wondering what the key changes are that have to be made from the plans?

  • For every great man, there are a hundred nuts, hangers-on, derps, and butt kissers..

  • Nice job

  • Only in america you get these freaks

  • @C0mm3n get r done

  • Purchased all four volumes from Lee Valley tools. Excellent modern reprints. I will be trying out my own projects this year. Great video.

  • "Thoreau and Goldman" is rather offensive. Her "you ask.....they don't give......you take it" mentality is not one based on self reliance. It's pathetic and depressing.

.......but excellent job on the boat.

  • This is the best video on Youtube I've seen in a while.

  • your mere existence pisses me off

  • HIs not a man she is a girl!!

  • Good job young man, on both the boat and the video production. Are you aware that The Boy Mechanic is in 4 volumes?

  • @ginasiepel (continued) For instance; something so small and light that I can design a little trailer for my bike, ride down to to the lake, assemble or unfold the boat, (the trailer could actually unfold to be a framework for the boat. I'm also formulating an idea that would allow me to take the wheels off of my my bike, lock them and the trailer wheel(s) up and then mount the bike to a mechanism in the boat to serve as propulsion and steering. What do you think? Thanks!

  • @ginasiepel Great engineering and design. I'm now trying to design a 1 person fishing boat (I'm leaning toward pontoons right now, money is very tight so thinking simple, small and unconventional. I live 2 miles from a great urban lake here in Scottsdale AZ and am thinking very crazy concepts. Fot instance; something so small and light that I can design a little trailer for my bike, ride down to to the lake, assemble or unfold the boat, (the trailer could actually unfold to be a framework for t

  • how many people can fit in it ?

  • świetne :P;] great :_)

  • Good little boat but a great job there , You have me thinking of having a go my self , All the best from the UK ...

  • whats the boat size?? freaking awesome job..

  • very very cool!

  • Nice job! nowadays we only dream up stuff and put it in cad cam and post it on youtube.

  • Another genius, like Thoreau.

  • yeah tell ur dad i say good job

  • are you a boy or a girl cuz im thinkin you a girl and possibly gay

  • @virtualnoodles hey if he is a guy he is atleast taking safer path than some faggot that gets spray tans and hangs out at the mall all the time.

  • Brilliant and very funny. Thanks!

  • The perfect proyect

  • That is amazing. Good Job mate!

  • Cool .

  • nice project!

  • That's awesome man.

  • These and other books of about the same time were great .

This was a time when the practical person, the mechanic, machinist , pattern maker was celebrated. Practical skills are not gender dictated. 3 cheers on the boat and the rest of your endeavors.

Most people are too scared to try anything a little dangerous.

I have a book like that that tells how to make black-powder and a cannon.

Those were different days. The bp worked well but the cannon? Not without better steel and tools. Cheerio

  • a better question is why does a girl want to be a boy mechanic?

  • Folding design makes it easy to store ashore. I think for long term use, knees should be fitted where the gun'ls meet the transoms on each part of the hull.

  • the boat is massive for it to be portable i have this book and im thinking of downsizing it do u think it would still work?

  • Cool Vid

The Boy mechainic is available online for free from project Gutenberg.

Do an internet search for 'gutenberg boy mechanic' and it should be the top of the list.

  • good work

  • Nice work!

  • they already made something like this

  • Great job, Cool idea, nice lake and thank you,.

  • bad ass and its cool that you parrents support that shit

  • brilliant editing, hilarious commentary, lovely video, dreamy little boat, suspenseful ending and glorious soundtrack at the end. 5/5 and a sub.

  • neard but its cool

  • well made

  • That boat turned out very well! You should publish the final plans.

  • Nicely done! When I was a kid in the 60's my public library had a copy of "The Boy Mechanic" and I checked it out a bunch of times. I have since found a couple copys for my own collection. I love the statements like "this steam engine can be constructed from materials found in most home scrap piles". Everything from photography, radio, electrical, magic, bicycles, models even a biplane glider! Get one on eBay.

  • wow that is simply amazing

  • Way Cool those were great books, Keep up the good work.

  • nice work, keep it up

  • did a great job

  • wtf is this ? man awesome ass boat tho gj dude but you already know that

  • Nice job! Good work on the project, and your voiceover was fun. Can't wait to watch more!

  • I was gunna build this.. but then failed miserabley, and my mom threw it away

  • That is absolutly outstanding!

What a facinating idea. That would be perfect to fit in the back of a pick up truck so you wouldn't need a cumbersome trailer.

    Absolutly magnificent!

Heres an idea. Build an out rigger system like polynesian boats for stability. A nifty retracting light sail based on retractable window shades would be sweet!

I saw a neat project where they used huge plastic barrels like oil drums and made a party barge catamaran. Fit over the bed of his truck.

    SUPER VIDEO!!!
