RIP WARREN WIEBE (04:38 to the end). One of the clearest voices this industry has ever seen. (Look for him in the yellow/gold T-shirt...). Cetera co-wrote this tune with Thompson-Jenner and Foster. Celine's step-uut is CHILLIN'....got goosebumps. Cetera's and Warren's voices are two of the purest tenor sounds EVER. God Bless Mr. Vandross!
It was a song dedicated to the troops serving in the first Gulf war. The artists felt that it wasn't the soldiers faults they were there and didn't want to repeat the mistakes of the past, specifically how troops were treated coming and going from Vietnam. They wanted to show them some love and respect. There is nothing funny about this song.
NOTHING even REMOTELY funny about this piece. Warren Wiebe (last voice heard on the tune) died a few years ago. The industry has since lost Mr. Vandross as well. It's a Cetera/Thompson-Jenner/Foster tune.
@RaincloudmusicTFS6 100% Agree. I thought it was ironic that Warren's voice is the last one heard although when Celine Dion sounds 'You are the voice. You are the light', I believe that is one of the sincerest notes ever heard in music.
We promised a tiny nation back in the 60's that we would defend them. On August 2nd, 1990 that small country was invaded and subjected to an occupation that rivaled the brutality of the Third Reich.
I am PROUD that my father was part of the force that kept the promise and Liberated what is now one of our strongest allies ANYWHERE let alone the Middle East. God Bless em. and God bless those of ALL nations defending us in Afghanistan.
God, I love this song and all songs like this......so, so emotional. They just don't make stuff like this anymore. The closest we've come is "heart of america" by Michael Mcdonald, Eric Benet, Wynonna.....also Destiny's Child with "stand up for love".....we need this kind of music back again.....
@monique69ish It came out in the spring of 1991, after the war had started that winter.......I know the song was pretty popular in April of '91 or so.......people were still being introduced to Celine Dion back then, she really wasn't even that popular
wow just crazy like we played this song in the school instrumental band with the choir and it was amazing and just watching this on how we still play this song how many years later just wow,.
Amazing song written by David Foster and Peter Cetera (his golden tenor kicks in at :28) with lyrics by David's wife Linda Thompson. David and Peter had a long writing relationship dating back to a string of melodic hits for Chicago and this tune is another musical gem. As usual, Foster assembles some of the best singers in the industry for this, with a relatively unknown at the time Celine Dion belting it out.
he following is the order of appearance in the song: * Ralph Tresvant * Randy Travis * Celine Dion * Peter Cetera * Bobby Brown * Brenda Russell * Jani Lane (Warrant) * Luther Vandross * Garth Brooks * Kathy Mattea * Gunnar & Matthew Nelson * Michael Bolton * Pointer Sisters * Little Richard * Will Smith * Mark Knopfler -Guitar solo * Kenny G -Saxophone solo * Warren Wiebe
Is it politics that has caused this song to be completely slept on for the last 20 years? EXCELLENT work by David Foster and company and I can't believe we never hear this on the radio anymore.
@jameslrhyder Actually, that's session singer Warren Wiebe who Foster used for a lot of his demos. For this, Warren recorded a complete version of the song and CD's were sent to each of the singers to learn their parts.
My soldier is in Afghanistan and finally got an email from him last note. U never know how much a phone call or email counts til ur dating a military man. Come home safe and sound love u Capt hill
Wow, 20 years ago. Can't believe it already has been that long. Wish there were more of these type of causes spreading messages of community (along with King Holiday Chorus 1986, We Are the World (1986) and Hands Across America (1986). Maybe our country should come together more often rather than be split apart at the seems.
I was in Camp Lejeune waiting for deployment when I first hear this song. I remember being so alone without my family and then I heard this song... I hope the writers and celebrity know how much this song meant to me and many others.. even after all these years this song touches me.
It is unclear, that the previous rants are from those whom have never been in harms way. Oh wait, maybe they play Pile of Duty . For those of us who don't vote, this song still means alot. Find something else to write about, or get lost!!
this song is very touching.... its like preparing the sheep to be slaughtered. what i am trying to point out is, the song is very moving and reflects our right for self existence. But the question is: Was there really deffence of right or promotion of other states interest headed by a leader who wanted to control another state because of its mineral resources. If the later is the intention, then this song does not fit. Like this decptive means, the illuminati is at work.
Hey I'm a Marine and I would like everyone to give a shout out today is 10 November 235 years today the Marines having been guarding heaven's scenes so think about the freedom you have because of all the sacrifices your Marines have given for this land of the free and home of the brave, oorah!

Love this video.. The words make me cry because my cousin is in Afghanistan right now. I support her always no matter what so it makes me angry when someone says something bad about the troops. We should support them no matter what!!!
David Foster did it again!!!!! All these stars together did a great job and Celine nails that note towards the end. Kenny G's sax is phenomenal. Who is the girl around :47 seconds singing "you're honor I'll defend"???? excellent
it is soo strange how a song was made for desert storm and the same war we are in today the same backing is not there ? and where was the songs for nam ?
Still LOVE this!! It's great to see when we support our troops. They need to do a remake. AND for those of you who are posting negative comments and don't stand behind our troops... FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM!! We LOVE our MARINE in our family!!!!
@fairycristela I totally get why people are upset with re-makes however, I think for songs like this its not a bad idea. For the new generation of kids growing up we have to speak their "music" in order to inspire the next generation.
So as you and I may not like the re-makes the next generation will. And maybe with that they can work on fixing our mistakes and making this world a better place to live in general.
re-makes are fine as long as the artist they chose are at the level of the original one...in the we are the world re-make they made justin bieber sing lione ritchie's part and miley cyrus sing dionne warwick's part...that's an insult to music! pink? fine. jennifer nettles? great. adam levine? good. even that girl from the pcd..but miley, the jobros and that new kid? they're not even artists...they're...products :(
amen!!!!! the real singers of we are the world are icons! paul simon, ray charles, stevie wonder, michael jackson, diana ross etc. those kids can't hold a candle next to those hall of famers!! they ruined a perfect song. i also think it might have something to do with MJ's death. if they wanted to use the song for some natural disaster, they could've used it for the tsunami, katrina even 9-11. you never remake a masterpiece. that's like remaking gone with the wind
@fairycristela your right but keep in mind the intention. They did raise alot of money that otherwise wouldnt have been available for the Haitians. tHEY'RE INTENTIONS WERE GOOD.
I've known this song since I was at the oldest 5 years old. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye. I think it needs to be updated for the current conflict in the Middle East, like they just re-recorded "We Are The World"
Isn't it funny how Peter Cetera's vocals are always quadrupled? Almost to the point of someone that is demon posessed, if he didn''t have such a sweet, sweet tone. It would sound weird talking to that guy on the phone though. With his doubled-voice and all. This song sucks, btw.
@JerkyTreat Peter Cetera got in a fight and broke his jaw many years ago. His jaw was wired shut for some time, and he got adjusted to singing through the clenched jaw. That's responsible for the strange resonance in his sound.

Still LOVE this!! It's great to see when we support our troops. They need to do a remake. AND for those of you who are posting negative comments and don't stand behind our troops... FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM!! We LOVE our MARINE in our family!!!!

Dear industry:
PLEASE don't kill this song making a lame re-make with Miley Cyrus and her friends just like you did with We are the world!
Thank you.

I barely recognized Garth Brooks without his hat in this video when I first saw it.

JerkyTreat 1 year ago
@JerkyTreat Peter Cetera got in a fight and broke his jaw many years ago. His jaw was wired shut for some time, and he got adjusted to singing through the clenched jaw. That's responsible for the strange resonance in his sound.

Turn you're volume up right before 3:27 and tell me that the note that was hit doesn't go right through you.
