the only show or movie i have ever seen red west on was the tv show black sheep squadron and he was one of the best people on it
"if i ever get my hands on that japaniese collige boy i am going to kill him" sorry about miss spellings i dont really want to look and see how to spell it right
You people who say Red and Sonny's book killed Elvis are partially correct, but understand, Elvis was in such poor shape his was going to die as soon as he went back on the road later that year. When a book "kills" a man, that man is weak to begin with. Elvis had been to the hospital a few times before his death and he was brought back to life so he was very weak. Long live the King. TCB.
@rmelio1 what killed Elvis was the fact that he wasn't spiritually aware and concious! Most of the problems he facing in later life was spiritually related and being treated with prescribed medication..Elvis actually started to fall after the Aloha Hawaii Concert! ppl were envious! when ppl are jealous n envious of someone great they do spiritually dirty things to take them down others might have envied his great looks, success fame or riches! this is what trull killed this great man!
@pulsare21 the truth bro the memphis mafia killed Elvis man! Elvis death was too sudden he too was just about to fly out goin on tour in the evening his tour was starting the very next day Aug 17! They killed him and they know it they were all envious of the guy man! I don't buy their crap bout how Elvis died it was too unusual and sudden like that death of Jacko the dancing queen! XD
RED WEST LOVED ELVIS. PERIOD. Red protected Elvis and was willing to risk his life to keep him safe. Elvis was addicted to drugs, Red tried many times but it was to no avail. Anyone who has been in this position understands it is impossible to save someone from themselves. I understand people not liking him but I probably would have done the same thing.
i own the orginal 1977 book "Elvis-What Happened?" and believe this tell-all book upset Elvis so much that it killed him..Elvis was found DEAD just 2 weeks after this book was released in the usa...my feelings for red is mixed,he was loyal to elvis for 19 years and wa sacked in 1976 by vernon-the book was written out of bitterness and revenge and a hope it would shock elvis..it did the opposite-it KILLED ELVIS.
Red's (Sonny and Dave H's) book really affected Elvis, that's clear ... I personally believe it led to the great man's death, so my feelings on Red (& co.) are clear.
I have mixed feelings for Red West, what I liked about him is he never lived off Elvis' name as much as so many others, but I have a problem with how he taped Elvis and his private conversation after he was fired, I never understood that and that is what bothers me.
You have to remember at the time he taped elvis' phonecall there was a good chance that Elvis or the colonel was gonna phone them either to make them an OFFER not to publish or a THREAT not to publish..He was just being cautious I would have done the same ..After everything they'd been thru over the years and then to be fired with a week's pay,, for nothing. Aged42, what you gonna do?
I understand where you are coming from but, Elvis fired the whole Memphis Mafia from time to time and brought them back, that is what I understand was going to happen again with these 3, but they wrote this book and therefore made sure they could not this time, they should have known, especially Red that Elvis would bring them back, it was mostly Vernon who did this. I just think they acted to soon and with bitterness, it was more about that than trying to help Elvis.
A bitter year '77 for Elvis and co and it was largly Vernon's fault.. the terrible shape Elvis was in how many rock n roll stars carried careers into middle-age ? none at the time. - If I was sat at home like The West cousins thinking how the hell am I going to support my family -maybe Elvis will take us back in a couple a years or so,best just sit tight...I think my wife and kids would leave me...Elvis should have made a real effort with the West's even before he got wind about the book.
It was a horrible year for Elvis and his entourage, he had very little of the Memphis Mafia left, most of the original members were gone, and it has been said many more were going. I had read that the Wests were approached and told they were going to be brought back and were going to be given 50 thousand a piece until they could be brought back, who really knows the truth, it has been a sore topic for years among the fans.
@kathryn8169 If Vernon had Elvis's best interest at heart he would have done more to help Elvis and his drug dependecy.I don't blame Vernon but he did always support the Colonel's decision's and more importantly always held the purse strings. For example,it was Vernon who allowed CBS to broadcast Elvis's last performance and any fan will agree that was the saddest thing,I cried and cried over that.He was sick and dying and no-one had the cajones to step up.
@ElvisFreak77 ah yes i didn't know that..but its not about the book cuz red was not part of the people who wrot the book. wonder why his dad fired him?
no matter what people say or think about red west the following is truth: he bent over backwards to save elvis presley. and he has my respect for that. i have read every maor book published on elvis over the past 32 years.
maple whatever you are an idiot. true Elvis fans know better. I've met the man twice and talked with him at length. He was the only one who didn't want anything from Elvis. For Heaven's sake he kept Elvis from gettin his ass kicked in high school.
Actually West was one of the few who tried to protect Elvis from suppliers. That was part of the reason he was let go. Sadly the book Elvis What Happened was too late to help Elvis. Since that time Red has NEVER bad mouthed Elvis.
