  • Letting them die to get a shot at Sovereign is prudent.

  • In all fairness, the Alliance lost 8 ships by saving the Council. 8 ships aren't going to do much to tip the balance against the Reapers. You also gain the trust of the 3 Council Species and save a fuckhuge dreadnought for ME3. It had better be leading the charge with the words "Destiny Ascension move in! Save the Alliance Ships!"

  • I saved the council, but in Mass Effect 3, that damned Destiny Ascension better be front and center in the battle to retake Earth from the Reapers.

  • I ONLY feel bad for the crew of the Ascension dying too...but I would let the Council die anytime, anywhere.

  • @superbrar hahaaa

  • I'm so sorry, but is it just me or does the single largest ship in the citadel fleet seem a little..... wimpy? During the entire battle, we never saw the Ascension fire a shot. Did the council tell the gunnery crews to stand down and wait for re-enforcements or some shit? That seems to be a re-occurring theme with the council. Sit there and wait for humanity to come charging in and save their asses. Well guess what, this time we got a little sick of being the cavalry for once.

  • @Freelancer591 i think i might have a theory for that i believe that when saren took control of the citadel control he could disable the weapons of the ship but i think it can be just that a theory maybe soverign gave the geth stronger weapons for the battle so they caused damage to it very quickly

  • @Freelancer591 The Ascension is a dreadnaught, which means it is ment for long range combat. It most likely has no short range offensive weapons (that role is meant to be filled by support vessels). With its point defences overwhelmed, the Geth could concentrate fire on a section till the armour failed, and continue to do that 'til they killed it.

  • I've finished ME three times, yet I always sacrifice the Council. It seems like the right thing to do, to go after the bigger threat. But having finished ME2, I almost think humanity's superiority is a bad thing, like the newcomers having too much power too soon, disturbing the status quo. Thank you BioWare for creating such an intriguing story and difficult moral conundrums! =D

  • @postapocalyptia

    true, good point.

but from what i heard the ascension was used to evacuate the civilian population on the citadel, sorry if im wrong.

  • @postapocalyptia

you've got to think also that there were billions of innocent lives on the ascension as well as the council

  • Illusive man > Council

  • Comment removed

  • That's what you get for making such a stupid looking ship. Has to be the weirdest thing i've ever seen. It doesn't seem to be shooting either..

  • Its a good thing the Illusive Man is a badass, cause without him I don't think the galaxy in ME would stand a chance. Plus I think he is the Shadow Broker, has somehow become part Reaper (the eyes man and the fact that he stays sober no matter how much alcohol he drinks, man his liver has to hurt), and has secretly turned a derelict into his personal ship/bitch....something is keeping him hidden from everybody.

  • Ah yes, you all "SCREWED" I will never dismiss that claim.

  • Turian Council: Ahh yes, "death". The fate that allegedly awaits us if we piss off Commander Shepard too much. Eh, we have dismissed that claim.

  • I saved The Destiny Ascension, not the Council. o_o

  • Human council don't give a crap about Shepard, Reapers, Alliances, anything really. Humanity comes first, just like Cerberus' outlook. In the end, it will NOT go well for humanity vs Reapers. I think that by saving council, establishing strong allies with the powerful races such as Rachni, Quarian, Geth, Krogan, as well as building stronger ties with the other more 'obvious' races, as well as getting in good with Cerberus (they will likely be your source of info and technology) you may win.

  • i think leting the council die is a better choice for the future as the council relations with humans is not good and the turians are building more dreadnoughts.

  • Kill the Council, then realize that he ME2 Council is even worst and do'nt care about you.

  • I don't regret saving the council one bit. Why? Because as it turns out, the human-only council is even -worse- in ME2, outright refusing to see you.

  • Mass Effect 2 made me regret saving the council.

Oh, well. At least the "Destiny Ascension" will be spaceworthy for the fight against the reapers. It'll probably be torn to shreds, but it'll probably fare a hell of a lot better than any other non-reaper ship. (Normandy Excluded)

  • I dunno the Normandy got worked by the Collecters, but later on it did pretty well....

  • *Asari*. "Ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-"

    Boom

  • "Commander! They've closed the channel!"

    "FFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

  • "Commander, they closed the channel..."

    "well fuck me..."

  • Fuck the council, Specially that turian one, I hated that asshole his never satisfied with anything you do thats why everytime he open his mouth i disconnect the call :P

  • God, I hate those fucking jackasses.

I wish I'd let them all die in the first one. Ingrates.

  • after still not believing you about the reapers in me2, i wish i had done this the first time i beat me

  • @ComradeGraty Me too, I mean wouldn't they find it strange that you knew an override they knew nothing about and the fact that the prothean V.I spoke in english to you and your squad about the reapers in detail, further reinforcing that it couldn't of just been shepard influenced by stress.

Or the fact that Sovereign's parts examined would show that they were nothing like the geth ships in the area.

  • i know it sounds bad but i was convinced to kill the giant fucker that could obliterate everything.... but i found it hilarious when joker close the channel i actually laughed a lot... but was still sort of sad

  • Is it just me or do the Geth ships look like bugs, Govereign looks like a cuttlefish, and the Ascension looks like a whale? But still.........they all look cool when they splode.

  • Kill the council. Tera Ferma.

  • i saved the council because its the right thing to do!

  • First I let the council die, 2 time around I saved them so they could kiss my ass lol:)

  • the ascension was on the way to the citadel anyway so why not save the council. It's not like save the council, or let sovereign go away kind of thing.

  • ...plus u think tht by saving the ascension then we'd have another ship to help us kill sovereign...but NOOOO..they sit there and do nothing......sounds exactly like the council to me

  • That's kinda like saying Air Force One should be used in bombing raids. Canonically the Destiny Ascension isn't equipped for close range combat, so attempting to take down sovereign would've been suicide, and it really wouldn't have mattered if you chose to save them or not. However you're not wrong that the council sucked, they made me regret saving them by the time they showed up in ME2.

  • not really at all, in what way is it close range combat for the ascension they saw sovereign appear from way out in the distance just like all the other ships, plenty of time to fire upon it and i didn't know that the ascension was ill equipped for close range mission thank you for informing me about the extensive weaponry on that ship.

  • Shut up, I'm rationalizing to make saving them and their acting like I was crazy later not seem like as stupid a decision as it ended up being. (of course the all human council could be just as stupid, iunno, I played through as a paragon)

  • Maybe you should think of the Ascension like a sniper gun to a pistol.

The first glaringly obvious reason why Ascension is not designed for short range battle because of its size. It cannot maneuver around its opponents or evade their attacks.

The second reason is their weapons. Extremely powerful no doubt, but it must take a lot of energy and have a long cool-down rate.

In one on one fights, it will probably beat any ships, but when it is overwhelmed, then it is just one big target.

  • any ship outnumbered and overwhelmed is one big target, however I do see ur point considering the sheer size of it. Also my point isn't that that Ascension was good at CQC my point was that regardless of saving the ship, regardless of saving a valuable attack force and regardless of saving a political ally we gained nothing; so why waste our lives?

  • Its your choice, but I was pointing out why the Ascension is weak against CQC, not criticizing your opinion.

A lot of people didn't seem get it so I explained.

  • @CrackaDoodizzle

The council has responsibility to ensure the safety of TRILLIONS of citizens throughout the galaxy made up of who knows how many species. Remember, humans are the newcomers and have yet to really prove their place among the elite as well as gain the trust of other races. An all human council is paramount to ensuring ME3 ends very badly for humans. If you pay attention to story, in the end we will face Reapers alone if Council is all human. Gaining allies is where its at.

  • @jujdred69 just because there is one species on the council doesn't mean that there is only one species that does the all the military work. If we control the council then yippy ...sux for the other races but oh well we saved the universe idk wut to tell ya and militarily speaking, it would the worst mistake in the universe not to back each other up against the reapers or we would all get obliterated one by one and the aliens know that...i hope.

  • @CrackaDoodizzle you're wrong, the squid was too close to the citidal what is they missed the squid and shot the citidal? and btw the human fleet was there as well, if they shot their primary weapon at the squid it could have hurt the human fleet as well. It was too dangerous for the ascension to help kill soverighn or whatever the name is.

  • .....FUCK THE COUNCIL.... the end lmfao

  • O W N E D.

they, they, they closed to comm channel!

  • psh, killing the council is the best choice. Wasting ships to save 3 people,

    ---------

naw man, there are more than 3 people on that ship, and that ship is pretty damn powerful, standing up on its own against a fleet of Geth. if nothing else, gotta save the ship and all the hot asari on board. Fuck the council.

  • dude ive beatin the game a few times and i always let em die...i totally agree im not wasting alliance ships i figured we were gunna need everything we had to take out sovereign....and cuz the council are stupid dick bags =p lmfao

  • I chose this one too.

    It was epic!

After all those grudges, "humanity as a lesser race", "limit percentage of the number of ships", "we need evidence", "we cannot help"etc. They did nothing just sending orders and criticizing.

    They deserved it!

The council is in good hands with the captain as sovereign. He didn't affraid to risk his own life.

They should show us the c.members face in the cutsceen when they realize their fleet will be destroyed and the humans are flying trough to save the world.

  • It's always joker to turn the com channel with council down. :D

  • 0.30

    pwned!

  • I only get the council killed when I try to do evil characters, in reality it'd be an infinitely wiser choice for the good of humanity (with what little time is left, if the reapers succeed) to save the Council, since they'd be all "omg humans pwn". It'd sure piss over that Turian council member's prejudice.

On the other hand whenever I save the council, I get rid of Ambassador Udina, he's far too Taliban for his own good and the black guy's awesome.

  • I agree with you it seems so cruel but hey... better results right?

  • psh, killing the council is the best choice. Wasting ships to save 3 people, rather than them focusing on the thing that is about to destroy the entire universe. Especially 3 people that could have put a stop to the whole ordeal in the first place but decided not to because they didn't respect humans. Council dies every time, still get Paragon.

  • i dont agree with the aspect of them practically bowing down to us...i mean they'll give us mucho respect now but if they die....then the entire galaxy bows to us as the saviors....killed saren.....and sovereign ....we do work end of story lol...i agree tht udina sux dick tho anderson has balls udina has prunes its science =0

  • @CrackaDoodizzle ellipses are not a substitute for commas.

  • @Kerze its a matter of opinion while texting in slang ;) ...i apologize

  • Purge the pathetic Xenos! Pave the way for Humanity to lead the galaxy! For the species!

    ...Yes, I play too much 40k :-/

  • I alwyas feel like an asshole when I decide to abandon the council. It's way more epic to take down a bunch of Geth AND take down Soverign. Thats what I think.

  • did you release the Racni or kill it?

  • The ascension lost to a bunch of fucking geth, its useless. How would it do up against a reaper fleet?

  • What about the background music of this cutscene?

  • This was so epic...I love when they say "they've closed the com channel...". Screw the council.

  • I was a full paragon but in the end i let them die because I thought a new council should be formed... but i felt like an ass so i reloaded the checkpoint and saved them and let Anderson be on the council.

  • asari, turian, salarian, human, volus, elcor, hanar, and possibly a krogan councilor :D

  • I really hope the normandy gets repaired, in the trailer it didn't get blown up, just minor explosions, but only the roof got blown up.

I mean, that things a prototype, they can't just abandon it :( perhaps cerberus will repair it? And give a little modifications, then surprise people with the all fixed normandy ;)

  • in the trailer you see escape pods launching so im guessing they abandoned it

  • same I hope it just falls into the planet with some of the crew surviving. If that does not happen I think we can almost say for certain that Joker Dies (He can barly get up.)

  • Actually in a trailer I recently saw for ME2, Shepard is helping a crew member who I think is Joker.

I'm kind of uncertain because his face was kind of facing down, but he had the ball cap, the beard, and he was limping.

At least, I hope it's Joker. He was a pretty good guy. He and Shepard had some camaraderie going. And I think if you disconnected the Council, he'd pretend it was an accident along with you.

  • Yeah i like him and Seth Green was a great choice for the voice. Dont take anything in the trailer literally tho, they said that it wasnt in the game and was only for the trailer.

  • JOKER IS THE MAN! I wish there was a character you could fight with like him but the other characters are cool also

  • i wouldnt waste human lives trying to save those politicians they did my head in

  • i hope so too. why would cerberus repair it?

  • because their making a temporary partnership with commander shepard because their scared of the threat too

  • what is the new threat?

  • No one knows :) yet

  • Maybe the Collectors... making human colonies disappear doesn't seem to fit the Reaper's MO.

  • but they only collect rare species and i dont think humans arent too hard to find in the milky way.....

  • think of it this way the normandy was a prototype, mybe the next ship you get will be a full model better than the normandy. out with the old and all that

  • The music is epic when the Ascension gets blown up.

Still, I'm a paragon guy all the way. (i'm just a nice person)

Hanars are big stupid jellyfishes regardless of alignment.

  • Second time I played through I let the council die. Mainly because I played the game like it was a movie and I think it is a better plot twist to let them die making the end of the first act darker and more desperate. Then choosing humans to lead with the idea that in the second act the humans might get in over their heads then ask for help from the other races. Thus making relations between the races stronger, and a more unified front to face the reapers in the third act.

  • Today, I finished ME for the first time. I decided to concentrate on the Sovereign, my logic being:

"What's the point of saving the council if the Reapers return and deactivate all Mass Relays?

By choosing the neutral option, a multi-racial council is founded, with Udina/Anderson acting as its President. Seems like the most equal option.

Thanks for the video. Admiral Hackett rules!

  • what is the neutral option?

  • @ fingersticks74:

When Joker asks you what to do, choose "Concentrate on the Sovereign", it's the option on the right of the wheel.

  • there is no neutral option. You either let them die or save them

  • council deserved to die. They never believed you. Plus with the council dead humans have the power!

  • oh my god we killed the council!

  • @ Skinnyoompalumpa:

    We/Us bastards!

  • I like to let the Council live. The first time I played it I thought it would be tactically unsound to just let the Geth be at the Alliance fleet's back while they're trying to concentrate on Sovereign. Also, the Destiny Ascension is the most powerful ship in the galaxy (besides Sovereign) and it would be a shame to let it get destroyed.

  • If you hadn't noticed the geth was also decimated :) if you payed attention only 4-5 ships out of I think 10 of the geth fleet remained when the alliance came.

  • oh now you want humanities help. Die hahaahahha!!!

  • I would have loved to see the look on that turian councillor's face.

  • yea if there was a comm chat opened whit hum i would sayed: SEE YOU LATER AROGANT BASTARD

  • man fuck the council i disconect from all their calls. the council can suck a dicc. humans own.

  • right! HUMANS FTW!!!

  • yes if you killed the council with human supremacy in mind, but if you decide to hold back the fleet to have a better shot at soverign and the death of the council is the cost of saving the galaxy, then it is not a Hitler move.

  • I love Hackett's voice.

"Nothing else matters." sends shivers down my spine.

  • @Thaeru i love the line "hit em' with everything we've got" then all the ships unload on sovereign.

  • hahah love their faces when they realise they are fucked

  • yeah, he bitches at you no matter what choice you make. that turian is a racist .

  • I chose to let those council bastards die i tried to warn them from the start but they didnt listen and then they want me to save them bah since when did they ask help from humans

  • I hate the Council. It was always holding humans back, telling that we are "dangerous". Well, they are nothing more than cowards. Still I don't like seeing them killed, however, I can't let the half of the human fleet die, for some petty place in the Council.

  • Yeah the first time I played through this I thought the choice was between risking the fleet and failing against Sovereign by saving the council, or letting the council die and ensuring the attack. I thought that letting the council die would actually be the paragon route, the whole "really really hard decision" thing. So when I got renegade points I threw my controller and was like, "God Damn It!" The worst part was that I forgot to save and the last autosave was before the elevator crashes.

  • I thought that too. I chose to "Concentrate on Sovereign" (lesser of two evils I thought), and got renegade points also. It seems more geared towards Garrus' definition of morality, find the best way or the fastest. But then again, what really is the best way.

  • I chose to save them because I thought if humanity didn't, we'd look like the such assholes. I didn't want to prove them right about us being unreliable.

  • You get both Renegade points and Paragon points if you choose to focus on Sovereign because it was the neutral choice of the three. If you choose to 'Let them die' then you get only renegade points. However, both choices have the same ending, depending on if you're a Paragon or a Renegade. Being a Renegade, you set up an all human council. But if a Paragon, you set up a new multi-racial council, with a human as it's head.

  • I just save to see the looks on that Turian's face.Plus Council is better than Udina.

  • What I did was basically get two profiles: both Paragon but with noticeable Renegade sides.

In one I saved the Council and put Udina as councillor, the other I didn't save them and put Anderson. That way, I can get a lot out of ME2.

Also, you guys need to remember that the aliens are pretty awesome, looking past the Council.

  • I saved them more for that big ship they were on in my Paragon play through. If some of these decisions have an impact on ME2 then I want that ship! Could come in handy in a future fleet engagement in ME2.

  • I chose not to aid the coumcil. But I didn't do it out of spite.

I did what had to be done.

    I went after Sovereign.

And I stand by my decision.

  • On my first playthrough, the council died, but thats because I told them to focus on Sovereign.

I didn't want the Council to die, because in the end, if you saved them, they become REALLY nice.

  • I have no idea what you just said. Please learn some decent english before you post a comment.

  • Haha, very good.

  • There's no achievement for getting Humanity into the Council.

  • I loved that part. "Uhh... They closed the channel." Oh shit!

  • That's the best way to tell the council "fuck you very much"

  • there is no reason to save those cunts at the price of alliance deaths anyway

  • Alien democracy is flawed... like ours. . .. actually.. .

  • I let the council die not because of hate, well yeah cuz the damn turian kept pissing me off, but also because it would save alot more people and would open ME2 nicely imo. Besides i just think humans should rule the galaxy because were strong and independent.

  • i thought of it this way as if i save the council then they'd bow down to humanity as its only hope and they kinda did by accepting a human into the council so then everyone would get a piece of the pie so to speak.

  • pfft lol the council never helped you, they never were on there side, i would do the exact same thing without hesitation. help me help you i say.

  • i let the council die as well, sorry

  • By saving the Council, you save Millions or Billions of life... Imagine, everyone will hate humans cuz they let the council to die, so a war must take place, and many will die.

  • Probably after the Reaper threat is over...

the other races will accept humanity's rule for now because they are afraid and humans are the ones who defeated Sovereign. However some rebel alien factions could appear in ME2

  • Unless if the new council is a multi-racial council, with more than just those three who were in charge. Imagine all of the other races being grateful for the humans allowing a much larger council which would hold room for humanity, the three previous races, and the Elcor, Volus, and even possibly the Hanar and Krogan.

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Asari, Turians, and Salarians would be pretty reluctant to just make an all-human council, no matter what the coincidence. For instance, the Turians saved the council during the Krogan Rebellions and they only got one council seat for all that work :P

  • I never understood why this is a 'bad' ending. Surely saving hundreds of lives (The fleet) is better than 3?

  • I played through the entire game as a Paragon and let them die. Not because I hated them but because I figured saving hundreds of lives was better than 3.

  • yea but werent there also others aliens on the citadel on that enourmous ship not just the 3 council members?

  • yup, same here. Although I did go for the option "Let the council die!" :)

  • yea but werent there also others aliens on the citadel on that enourmous ship not just the 3 council members?

  • LOL..i love this ending...i jump for joy after seing the council dies..that arrogant son of a bitch and racist now die!!!!i already finished the game with saving council anyway...but that ending still cant beat the renegade ending...

    humanity must unite...HUMANITY RULE ALL...!!!!!

cant wait for mass effect 2..bioware said the ending in mass effect 1 will greatly affect the mass effect 2..so we need to keep the save file...

  • Let the council die, and the humanity is screwed, despite is siege on citadel council. save them, and humanity rule

  • Well if you don't let the council live then well your screwed since humanity is by itself. Andersan would help but the ambassoder would shoot himself if he was for the council or whatever. And if he didn't I would XD

  • Right when I heard council, I was like "Well if I choose them over the peasants I'm OBVIOUSLY gonna get some shit." and anyways I barely even thought about the small bit of homeless faggots who don't have a ship of their own, still paragon.

  • When I got the choice I was like. Fuck da council let em rot in hell! god I love being renegade! Muhahahahahahah

  • Say goodbye to the dumbest council in the universe! XD They were always tellin me how to do my job

  • I played Paragon through the game but choose to kill the Council because as Laria said, more Human lives would be lost in trying to save them.

  • lol yea i let them die 2, what happens if you choose udina or captain - i said i didnt care

  • Is this on your PC or something? Framerate sucks.

  • It's always wise to look at the date the movie was posted.

  • I tried to play as a renegade, and I just couldn't be such a douchebag. Even in a video game. Which is kind of ironic because I'm a bit if a douche in real life heh.

  • WHen i heard the part "when humanity ask for help you ignore it" IM like Yes time for some payback

  • If killing one person means saving billions then i'd make that choice

  • I saw the option... I didn't even wait a second, Right away is twas like SCREW YOU COUNCIL.

  • I saved them.

As Shepard says, respect is something you earn. The sacrifice you give by saving the council proves your willing to be a part of the effort. Letting such important people die just alienates you more.

What good is letting them die. Isn't it more gratifying to rub it in their face alive?

  • ..A litttleee too serious ragingtom. just a little.

  • no i let those punks die and we humans moved in on their place...AWESOME

  • I didn't. Timing can be everything and if you divert forces to protect some VIPs you could miss the one chance you have to win.

  • I saved them the first time. I'll let them die the second time.

  • I just realized that if you let the council die, Anderson dies too. LOL, first day on the job.

  • Anderson doesn't die in this game at all; he possibly will in one of the sequels but not in this

  • O.o anderson doesn't die, what would make you think anderson dies?

  • because he's a coucil member now.. which means he'll probably be on the council ship that gets destroyed.

  • re:Railin anderson becomes a council member AFTER the ship blows dumbass

  • how did you get the video please tell

  • they hated humans enough as it was so i saved them..

  • those frickin aliens pissed me off screw the council damn gays i hated them but felt sry 4 them lol i killed them though

  • I really hate them espeacially the Turian one he's always just coming up with excuses to criticize me

  • LOL...yeah..that turian bastard..he critize me becos kill the rachni queen..and he said..."you human seems enjoy to genocide other races"...and shepard said...it depends on the species,TURIAN!!!

    That was greatttttttt

  • When it looked like they were do something about Saren and they didn't and said "OH, YOU USELESS WANKERS!!!"

  • not only that if you save the rachni queen he says "you let it live do you know what you've done the entire galxey will be overun by them."

  • Lol, and if you let her live he still bitches, he just loves arguing...

  • I saved em cause thats kinda fucked up letting them die when u can save them. From the games point of view it would show even more that humans only care about themselves.
