family computer games had very catchy tunes, it really doesnt compare to current gen games. we had those 100 in 1 games back then which was kinda of a rip off because it had 5 or more versions of a the same game, 10 versions of mario, 5 version of excitebike etc... Good times :)

I remember playing this as a stand up console at an arcade named Fantasia in Fairview NJ back in the 80s. I always thought this was one of the best "old school" type games as it took the whole eat, jump, run dynamic and elegantly redesigned it so that the only element you had control of really was run, but jumping and eating was also a major part of the gameplay...that probably doesn't make sense but in other words its one of the arcade classics that actually took a different take on gameplay

I suck at the NES version but it's a really solid port of the arcade versions (which I have on Wii and PSP). The movements are smooth, and the gameplay is just as crazy as the arcade versions. (I suck because of the lack of a sixth "floor" on the stages)

The bells start at Level 8-10. Mappy (Arcade) is run on the same board as Pac-Man so since Pac-Man has a kill screen at level 256, Mappy just resets itself back to the begining after level 256. So really no offical ending.

This version of the game doesnt quite have the exact duplicate of the arcade sounds or screen , but one of the best i've seen , other than the MsPacMan 5 in 1 plug n play which has Mappy on it..which is dead on..

Amen to that, considering this game came around in 1983, it also probably made a significant mark in platforming arcade installments to come. Shame this property lies dormant, I'd love to see Namco do more with Mappy.
