  • The should have got Chris Reeve to be in this episode. He was a much better Supes.

  • you been married to here for 15 years??....& they call me superman lmao

  • Madge Blake would later go on to play dizzy Aunt Harriet on the Batman tv series ten years later.

  • Although this is "ranked " as my third favorite "I Love Lucy" episode. It is an iconic episode. The last New York City episode in the series. But, more sinifigant in is contemporary setting. It was first run on Monday night January 14,1957 when the world news story was the Death of actor Humphrey Bogart. Moreover, filmed on Thr, Night 11/14/56. Reeves during dinner & on set and throught the night was B---- about Stevenson's defeat by IKE 9 Days earlier Which aggravated the Arnazes.

  • this was such happyshow

  • And they call me Super man!! GASPP

  • Priceless.

George Reeves and Christopher Reeve - indeed.

  • DO A WEB SEARCH ON:

    charles h. miranda OR:

    charlesthepoet2003

    THANKS.

  • George really imortalized himself here.time is gift, blesing. It took me2hrs2write this from slow cellnet.b realy grateful.dont search4any truth on wikipedia aka wikipedoia. Bookmark print all true wikipedia-watchorg rules!lol

  • 1 dislike......must be Lex Luther

  • One of the funniest episodes of the series. Terrific ending. Was also Doris Singleton's last appearance as Carolyn Appleby. Sad postscript though because of George Reeves.

  • The great line, "Ricky you been married 15 years...... and they call me -- Superman !!

  • truly a classic the likes of which will never be seen again

  • @mythic89

    Very true.

  • @LOVEBATMANROBIN

Actually that IS the same actress who played Aunt Harriet (Madge Blake).

  • What a Funny Scene --- like not comedy today !

  • LOL..Ricky freaking out was hilarious..

  • Lucy would have been a good blond LOL

  • @LOVEBATMANROBIN No. that was not Aunt Harriet

  • this is my favorite lucy

  • I'm always amazed at how completely convincing George Reeves was as Superman. Christopher Reeves was good, but I never 100% believed him. George Reeves must have been a pretty good actor, because he made you believe in the character.

  • @bashbrannigan yes he was yhe best superman ever

  • The line when the late George Reeves said "And they call ME Superman!" is one of the all time funniest punchlines of all time.

  • Can someone explain to me what did Superman mean "And the called ME Superman ?"

  • @sweetboy08; Remaining stuck on the ledge outside the apartment three stories up has Superman realize that Lucy is not an easy person to live with being so crazy and all, saying that living with someone as crazy as Lucy for over fifteen years of marriage requires tremendous strength and courage that not even Superman himself could manage it.

"And they call me Superman" means to say that Ricky is the real Superman for living with Lucy all these years.

  • @sweetboy08 Thank You for the clarification. And I agree with Superman, Ricky really is Superman for marrying Lucy and living 15 with her!

  • @sweetboy08 that was in reference to Ricky who had to put up with Lucy's antics

  • Christopher Reeve was cool but George Reeves will always be the real Superman to me.

  • i remember that episode well......miss em all...

  • Superman: You mean to say that you've been married to her for 15 yrs?

    Ricky: YEAH 15yrs!!

Superman: And they call me Superman.

  • I think George Reeve would have made an excellent father.

  • What a great clip! This segment has never failed to give me at least a chuckle. I love the smile on George's face when Little Ricky says "No, Daddy! Let Superman do it!". I'm also quite fond of the expression on Ricky and Ethel's face at 1:55 when George effortlessly pulls the piano that had balked Ricky from in front of the window. And of course, the very end of the sequence "And they call me Superman!" and Lucy's expression... priceless stuff!

  • if they make another superman movie, I hope they find a guy with a george reeves build....no offense to christopher, but when I think of a he-man who could look like a shlump like clark kent, I think a george reeves can pull it off. Pretty boy actors tend to have less range anyway

  • Man, Reeves seems so comfortable in the role here... Ironically, he's not listed as "George Reeves" in the credits for this episode, he's listed as "Superman."

Good actor, knew how to deliver a line... there's a reason why that otherwise childish series ("Superman," not "Lucy") endures, and he's the reason.

  • If You Love "I Love Lucy," Then You'll Love "The Lucy Show!" The Official Second Season of "The Lucy Show," is coming to DVD on July 13, 2010! It is available for pre-order on amazon now!

If you like "I Love Lucy" then you'll love "The Lucy Show." Pick up a copy, beleive me you'll love it! It also co-stars Vivian Vance!

  • Ricky, you are the real Superman!!! Even George Reeves says so. It's a crying shame that they don't do this type of comedy anymore

  • did he just burst out of a cupboard?

  • @butchdeadlift10 I believe they're called Dutch doors, or Breakfast bar, or something like that, and the Ricardos' kitchen is on the other side of it. But you're right: A fantastic entrance.

  • I just adore that face she makes after he says "and they call ME superman".

    Fantastic!

  • Did anyone notice Dick Grayson's Aunt Harriet in the scene?

  • Comment removed

  • @DaveNF2G No, that was Larry Mondello's mother! :-)

  • I seen this on the AMAZING STORIES OF SUPERMAN

  • It sure is. Thanks very much for your reply

    From fieldsofheaven02

  • Hi there 0aGuardian. Fieldsofheaven02 here. Sorry i did reply to you but from my hotmail not from the you tube site. i wasn't aware it wouldn't get to you. I have seen superman's wedding and that was very romantic. though i haven't seen superman's wife though. and another thing you know after watching most of the episodes of the series i was hoping they'd make a special episode with supergirl in it. and then it wasn't til later i discovered she wasn't created until 1959! How EMBARRISING!

  • "and they call ME Superman..!" fantastic line..!

  • I've loved this all my life- and Im 55. He was the best...

  • It's Bush's fault!

  • He was a very fatherly Superman, the most fatherly of all of them. All Superman starting with Christopher Reeve were all under 30, but you could tell George Reeves was mid 40ish.

  • this is one of the last things george reeves did before his death

and i'm still nos sure how he died

  • He was found dead in his bedroom. A poor investigation a lot of pple believe his alcoholic girlfriend Lenore Lemmon killed him. Remember in 1959 NO DNA!!!

  • Actually, Reeves did two more seasons of SUPERMAN after doing this.

  • and they call me superman

  • I have to agree with you. It is one of the best lines in TV history.

  • Superman: you mean to say you've been married to her for 15 yrs?

    Ricky: Yeah 15 yrs!!

Superman: And they call me Superman.

lol the best line in TV history.

  • aplogies meant to read 'pa kent' - clark kents 'dad'..

  • heres another superman / batman link...glenn ford drove a lincoln futura car in a movie with debbie reynolds..that car later was adapted by george barris to become the batmobile in the adam west/burt ward batman tv show..glenn ford later went ob to play pa kent -clark kent in the christopher reeves superman movie..

  • Wow, now this is the Superman I remember and luv. Lucy is really at her best and Ricky with the classic yelling OMG, sooo funny. We could all use a best friend like Ethel she was really great at sticking by Lucy. I miss them all : ( and I am so glad the series lives on!!!!...Latina

  • Hi everyone. Just two questions: are there any epsidoes from the 5th and 6th seasons. and the other question. i was looking on a site of the episodes of the george reeves superman and i thought i saw that one of the episodes was called "superman's wife" or "the wife of superman?" i know that there was an episode called the "wedding of superman" is there anyone out there who can confirm me on that? please thanks

  • Um,Im looking for a episode of I LOVE Lucy.Well basically lucy, fred, ethel, and ricky go to a skiing lodge or was it a spa? can't remember.Anyways,Lucy thinks one of ricky's old friends is in love with her. And ricy finds out and plays a prank on her with his friend and in the process gets jealous. If you know what episode Im talking about please tell me.

  • he really went through the kitchen window pretty fast..didn't he?

  • would been fun if he had grab lucy and flew off edge of ledged

  • I love that too!

  • was the old superman a comedy.

  • This is from I Love Lucy, which was a comedy. BTW, Superman was on for six seasons. The color episodes, seasons three through six, became increasingly campy.

  • no.

  • i love superman.God bless George Reeves!!!

  • Whatever the truth of his departure might be, God bless George Reeves!!!

  • @ECO473 God Bless both Supermen, George and Christopher Reeves

  • @ECO473 He was the best actor to play Superman that I know of next to Christopher Reeve.

  • "And they call me Superman!" LOL! I love that line! I love this episode.

Heck with it. I Love Lucy!

  • I loved watching Superman just jump in! He was so handsome! He was also the best Superman in my opinion.

  • Was there anyone better than Lucy?

  • TV Guide has put this in the top 100 tv scenese of all time- and deservedly so RIP

  • thats why superman never get married

  • omg a friend sent this to me, it is me, omg, i have these things happen, lol

  • a rare video -what a wonderful scene-all of us miss george - superman and the series-left to soon-almost fifty years ago-i urge everyone to see the series 51-58-available on dvd now-worth watching.

  • What a pleasure to see this. CLASSIC!

  • The look on Lucy's face at the end...classic!

  • and they call me super man >=O lol lucys was funny

  • U see reason he move piano was on wheels n were locked so they redid as unlock so could move it with ease...

  • The first two seasons of "The Adventures Of Superman" were filmed at R.K.O. Radio studios, which Lucy and Desi bought, and renamed Desilu, making this episode for George Reeves a sort of homecoming. I heard that the studios later were torn down to make way for condominiums or office buildings.

  • think lucy ab libbed can you teach me to fly. funny stuff.

  • ironic how they prevent george reeves to portray his real-life george, but at the same time show him not being able to fly or xray vision. kind of like half-way thing.

  • I Love George Reeves As Superman Too Death!!

  • The woman who saw Lucy as Superman later played Aunt Harriet in Batman, I think.

  • Absolutely right! Her name was Madge Blake and she knew the best Superman and the best Batman: George Reeves and Adam West!!

  • The greatest Superman of all times!

  • Superman: You mean to say you've been married to her for 15 years?

    Ricky: YYEEEEESSS, 15 YEARS!!!

Superman: And they call me Superman.

    LOL!!! Classic.

  • @cruse85 Excellent line.

  • Ah, George Reeves. A life cut too short. This is a GREAT clip. Thanks so much.

  • Yes, a life cut too short..

  • Classic episode!!

  • ...and they call ME Superman, ha ha ha, priceless!

  • Isn't it a co-incidence? Superman went to Ricky's birthday in Superman 3 as well!

  • True stkhd1!! Ricky was Lana son in Superman 3 Good memory =)

  • Continue---> and also was Ricky B-day!!

  • I love how she puts her head in the corner in embarrasement at the end... just like my 3 year old does!

  • If this episode is canonical - then Superman exists in the Lucyverse!

  • We need to find someone who can attest to the cannonicity of the Lucyverse. Great choice of words.

  • One of my alltime favorite episodes of I Love Lucy!

  • Among the finest of 50's TV. Along with The Honeymooners. Watching George is always a pleasure. Seemed like a real nice guy.

  • George was originally credited at the end of the show on CBS, but syndicated prints omitted Roy Rowan's announcment, "Our guest star tonight was George Reeves- star of the 'Superman' series". I've seen the original network print {Procter & Gamble's "Lilt" was the sponsor that evening}...

  • o love lucy soo much my fav. show.....its even in my name...MikelLucy!!

  • I love Fred's Birthday hat

  • It's too bad that George didn't have the opportunity to branch out into comedies. I think he would have been great.

  • Best Lucy episode of all time. the two hottest shows in the 50s, ILL & Superman

  • It's a shame he died shortly after this episode, it was the last show George Reeves ever did, and no, he was NOT related to Christopher Reeve, the 70's movie star Superman.

  • George Reeves was a good actor, I've never heard of him untill I watched the history of Superman, from a comic book character, radio drama, to a cartoon, to a movie star. It was there, that I learn that George Reeves did not have a happy ending, to this day no one but God knows if his death was a murder or a suicide. being found next to a gun, but there was no fingerpaints on the gun. It remains a mystery.

  • george was so wonderful with kids, I bet he would have made of Hell of a dad.

  • George Reeves was great, and this may be my favorite episode of I Love Lucy. Thanks for posting it.
