@THEONLYmes323 hey my dodges timeing chain is shot as well. it was when i bout it second hand all the way from SC in 93 but i still almost 20 years later have yet to replace it so i was curius what it cost you to fix it
I have a 95 that does the same thing. its the timing chain on mine. its the 3.9 magnum 5-speed with 300k on it runs like a champ still does not use oil or leak and had myself and certified mechanic tear it apart its just faulty timing chains.
I was wondering the same thing, that's how I found your video. I noticed that my 2003 Dakota V6 3.9 ticks only when up to full temperature. Cold start its quiet. It almost sounds like some emissions shit they put on it. The engine runs 100% strong with no problems and no red line punishment. Had it sense it was new and had all its oil changes. I got use to the noise but it still really bugs me I don't know what it is for sure.
I have a '96 dakota 3.9/239FI 4x4. Basically the same truck as you.. had the same problem. Everyone else is WRONG dont mess with your timing chain. If your truck has a decent amount of miles on it and isnt running like it used too then it is your fuel injectors ticking. Some if not all six may need to be replaced and its alittle expensive but it will run and sound like new again, Im almost positive thats your problem. let me know if you have questions.
I'd say that's more of a tapping and it's hopefully just from the lifters. At the worst, it could be a valvetrain issue, piston slap or a rod knock.
I would try an engine flush with Gunk Engine flush, maybe a couple right before you change the oil. Make sure the oil is kept up to proper level and isn't neglected.
Make sure you're also using the correct weight of oil, good motor oil, and DO NOT use crap ass Fram filters, stick with Mopar, Wix, Napa Gold is also Wix etc.
just add some lucas oil to your oil changes, dont flush it out fast though or all at once because the engine might not be used to it and die or get worse but , just add some stuff to the oil when you change it and then your lifters should be good, did with mine and it worked
Yep, it was a timing chain. sorry haven't been to this video for a while.

That's not true. I have the same tick, engine runs as good as ever, and my truck is carbureted.

Is it more of a clack? And does it sound like it's more to the rear? Mine does it too. Someone even asked if it was a diesel.
Im planning on changing my timing chain

that sounds like a stretched timing chain dodge magnum motors(v6 and v8)are bad about that
