you can locate an atom with a detector which measures the impact parameter of the atom colliding with the detector. the atoms velocity can be measured using a tuned frequency of em radiation which the atom can re-emit and the doppler shift of the light measured. its only imposible to do both at the same time. if you measure a particles position you effectively stop it in time=unknown velocity at a given time; if you measure velocity, you have to excite it with light=unknown and random in space.

I think there is a misinterpretation here:

Observation, in terms of physics, is not necessarily pertaining to conscious observation. Observation of an electron say in measuring its position is done using a detector- which can be a fancy silicon pixel, superconducting nanowire or a plain old t.v phosphorent screen;hence television works independant on wheter the observer is conscious or not, viewers excluded of course.

In the famous double slit experiment, does the electron exist in multiple places from the time it is fired until it is observed at the entrance to the slit? or does the observation at the entrance to the slit cause the electron to exist in only one place from the time it is fired?

The truth is that uncertainty only exists on quantum and atomic scales. Any further up the chain, classical mechanics (statistical averaging, the blurring out of any uncertainty) is the rule... except at temperatures near absolute zero where macro-scale uncertainty can occur.

This mixing of quantum physics with theories of consciousness is nonsense. The only thing that QM can tell you is that there are other copies of you in parallel universes. It can't tell you anything about "interconnectedness" or what "consciousness" actually is. In fact, QM quite clearly shows that quantum decoherence makes the "quantum consciousness" an absurd proposition.

Some argue if we're creating reality by observing it, this makes the concept of an external reality obsolete. But I disagree on that.

'Cause we still don't consciously know what we're actually creating and how this comes to happen. So we've got to find out. Thus, examining an external reality, even if it's just what we ourselves are actively creating the moment we look at it, is still due to be explored and examined. It doesn't really matter who's creating it. It's a creation nonetheless.
