The greatest respect to the british soldiers past and present! Disciplined, brave, galant and always keeping their tail up. My great-/grandfathers were full of praise for their forced adversaries in both world wars... "without the british we could have won the war!". And i can only add to that: i`m proud for the opportunity to have served alongside those warriors in Afghanistan! No need to call me or my forefathers "f***in germans"... we were or are just soldiers just like so many others!
The major US war aim in the War of 1812 was to invade, and take over, Canada. The stuff about stopping the impressment of US sailors into Royal Navy Warships was a minor point that was made much bigger after the failure of repeated invasions of Canada. Read the history.
Not only did the US fail to take over Canada, but by the end of the war all US Warships were blockaded in port or captured and US overseas trade was at a total standstill. The War of 1812 was in no way a victory for the USA.
War of 1812 USA invaded Canada, and just about everywhere they were beaten back by British and Canadian troops. US Troops burnt Canadian towns, Britain burnt Washington in retaliation.
US Most certainly did not win the War of 1812, since it's major aim was to take over Canada.
I wish i lived in the days of the British empire. Things were so much more simpler then. Just King and country to serve, loyalty & honor rife in our countrymen, and a Empire to build.
Nowadays our own beautiful green Island nation has been turned into a cash-cow dumping ground for the third world to feed off.
@bobslay12 british did not win the war of 1812 america did just beacause the brits were tired of kicking butt. America won because we never gsve in and finally the brits were just like fuck it whatever
Britain did win the war of 1812 because of the american army being defeated at every turn and even running away from their burning capital not even the president was there to see show as he was too busy galloping away on his donkey.
well you little simpleton you were trying to take it because one baltimore privateer single handedly blockaded london. Baltimore is bigger than 99 percent of your little villages limey.
he light brigade is a concept that was created by sir john moore from his exsperinces fighting the first peoples in the american war of indepence
On July 17, 1803, the Corps of Light Infantry was formed from brigading together the 43rd (Monmouthshire Light Infantry) Regiment, the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) and the newly formed 95th Rifles
a light brigade is trained to fight in open order and not in the more traditional lines of men (who are heavy infantary) they were encouraged to show greater initiative, were taught to live of the land better, how to fight in guerilla fashion and remember this all who have/are served/serving in the army at some time how you were/are trained everything you have learnt is becuase of one man Sir john moore! remember him on the his death day 16 January 1809!
Can somebody tell me what is Light Brigade? does Heavy Brigade exists too? bkoz there are so many unit in British army with so many names that make me confused
@EastGunzSide "Can somebody tell me what is Light Brigade? does Heavy Brigade exists too? "
The original idea was that the heavy cavalry were mounted on big horses and were used for pitched battles, whereas the light cavalry rode anything with four legs and were primarily scouts and skirmishers. By the time of the Crimean war that distinction had effectively ceased to exist among the British and French, although less so among the Russians.
@EastGunzSide The light brigade was a brigade of cavalry made up of light cavalry (as the name would suggest); so that would be units like light dragoons, lancers and hussars. Their purpose was to chase down skirmishers, attack isolated enemy units (such as unprotected artillery), and chase down fleeing enemies.
@EastGunzSide In answer to your second question, there was a heavy brigade, which was a brigade of cavalry made up of heavy cavalry (again, you probably guessed that); so that would have been units like cuirassiers (though Britain didn't use those; Britain's heavy cavalry didn't have armour, just the big damn swords) and dragoons (which by the Crimean War had mostly stopped being used as mounted infantry and were now just used as heavy cavalry).
THE VICTORIA CROSS HIS MADE OUT OF THE RUSSIAN GUNS THAT WAS CAPTURED FROM THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGARDE AND ROUKES DRIFT DUNKIRK THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN DESERT RATS BURMA AND D. The British Generals misunderstanding, stuberness and pride between themselves that costed the end of the Light brigade, finest brigade in the whole world for that time
Don't want to sound pedantic you are right the Battle of Balaclava was fought in 1854, 42 years after 1812. But Rorke's Drift was fought 25 years after Balaclava in 1879, a little longer than shortly after. It's only a small point I know. Plenty of less well known battles fought and won between the two & after. The last battle fought by British troops in red was Ghinnis in Sudan 1886. The troops wore Khaki; but their General insisted they changed into their red uniforms! They won it anyway.
HA! What do you call that little itty bitty incident where American Patriots beat the crap out of the British forces and they left the country? Hmmmm... Not that I have anything against the UK, far from it, but I daresay you lost that war.
@133caboose I cannot change the status quo, Lord Evelyn Rothschild controls your Federal Reserve = your economy, your t.v. networks, your newspapers, Hollywood, the Music Industry, your C.I.A. We. are. fucking. crazy.

Is that Hagman from the Sharpe series doing the singing? Whoever it is though, it's beautiful.
archibaldgregory 1 week ago
Sorry, Bobslay, I have some problems with this.
The Crimean war was a Victorian conflict ... 'King George commands' doesn't fit.
This quasi-traditional song was used for the Sharpe series of Channel 4 films.
It was arranged and sung by the very excellent John Tams, who also played Hagman. He deserves credit for this magnificent music.
Well spotted, Samdogdamndog2!

If you check wiki answers,
you will see that Great Britain WON,
why ?
we achieved our objective of kicking America out of our colony- Canada,
today Our British Banker Lord Evelyn Rothschild,
owns your Federal Reserve = your economy,
the Americans still pay taxes to our Royal family,
I do not necessarily agree with the above- but, its true !
Great Britain has lost battles, but, Never a war !

type in on wiki answers " who won the war of 1812 " GREAT Britain did,
oh just 4,500 of our troops made the entire American army run away,
our soldiers got heat stroke chasing after them,
we then, burned down the White House, all the govt buildings and the docks,
president madison ran away to virginia, we did NOT harm any civilians,
also, I have relatives in New Haven, Connecticut,
I have been there for 2 months, 2 years ago,
I like Americans : friendly, helpful and generous !

we conquer countries by having countries economies at our mercy,
as I said, Lord Rothschild owns the federal reserve,

so we hand pick your 2 presidential candidates,
then you choose one of them,
again, I am not saying I agree with this,
