An excellent video, first time I actually became interested in rhino poaching. Heard about this on Jacaranda. I never fully understood the full extent of it and what the fuss was about, but it's obviously not a growing concern anymore, its become a serious situation. One of our big five are becoming extinct.
I say poachers need a minimum of 25 years to a life sentence with hefty penalty. If we can't save South African's in China, why should the Chinese be treated differently. (My opinion)

I don't think Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is the "bad guy". They have always done their utmost in the conservation of Rhino and that's why Rhino populations in KZN are high. Its a horrible fact that money runs the world and like any business KZN Wildlife neesd money. It would be nice to relocate Rhino but who pays for that, who pays for the relocation costs? If ethically hunting an old bull raises R1 mill that helps pay for Rhino conservation then why target KZN Wildlife.

But if there no-one with money to buy rhinos or to relocate, should they overpopulate the parks or cull them with no profit? R1 mill goes a long way in paying rangers to protect, conserve. Keep in mind legal hunting is different to poaching. About the poaching part of the video I agree with you. About legal hunting I do not agree as you clearly do not understand breeding principles and the game market. That aside, how about another challenge? How about you make another video to debunk the myths held in East about the medicinal values of rhino horn? If we can show to them it help a lot. Whilst I somewhat disagree, to actually increase populations of certain species there has been a price tag being put on them for hunting purposes only, NOT poaching. By making them more valuable for hunting their populations are being cared for very carefully and breeding programs are helping to increase NOT decrease numbers - FACT. This is licensed sustainable hunting which when you think about it is probably not too dissimilar to what humans have done for the last 50,000 yrs.

South Africa has some of the best wildlife experts on this planet, our Rhino conservation was 2nd to none, if memory serves me correctly we saved the white rhino from extinction and through conservation swelled all our Rhino numbers from a few hundred to thousands.
Nearly 1000 Rhinos killed in the last 2 years in SOUTH AFRICA is unacceptable!!!! Any normal government would have set up a task force after the 1st dozen kills and upon realizing there was an upward trend in demand focused in SA
I think what you don't understand is that the money made from auctioning the hunting of those rhinos goes back into their conservation. It would be pointless relocating them to reserves where they could just be poached anyway with no financial benefit????
As sickening as some of the images were to view, I feel it was right for you to make this video. It is so very sad that people for no other reason than to make a quick buck, kill and slaughter these beautiful animals in such a horrible way. If there is a way to stop this from happening, hopefully everyone viewing will do something positive to combat it. Keep in mind legal hunting is different to poaching. About the poaching part of the video I agree with you. About legal hunting I do not agree as you clearly do not understand breeding principles and the game market. That aside, how about another challenge? How about you make another video to debunk the myths held in East about the medicinal values of rhino horn? If we can show to them it help a lot. Another problem is that rhino horn is used for dagger and knife handles in the Middle East.

Whilst I somewhat disagree, to actually increase populations of certain species there has been a price tag being put on them for hunting purposes only, NOT poaching. By making them more valuable for hunting their populations are being cared for very carefully and breeding programs are helping to increase NOT decrease numbers - FACT. This is licensed sustainable hunting which when you think about it is probably not too dissimilar to what humans have done for the last 50,000 yrs.

isnt there a strong scientific movement that suggests that promoting private game reserves can actually help maintain rare species numbers, as that way we can raise money for conservation, but mostly, if money is being made from an endangered species there is no economic sense in allowing it to go extinct?

This is hard to watch. There are so many issues in the world today, rhinos, elephants, 90% of the large ocean fish are gone. South Africa has some of the best wildlife experts on this planet, our Rhino conservation was 2nd to none, if memory serves me correctly we saved the white rhino from extinction and through conservation swelled all our Rhino numbers from a few hundred to thousands.
Nearly 1000 Rhinos killed in the last 2 years in SOUTH AFRICA is unacceptable!!!! Any normal government would have set up a task force after the 1st dozen kills and upon realizing there was an upward trend in demand focused in SA

As sickening as some of the images were to view, I feel it was right for you to make this video. It is so very sad that people for no other reason than to make a quick buck, kill and slaughter these beautiful animals in such a horrible way. If there is a way to stop this from happening, hopefully everyone viewing will do something positive to combat it. First off the national parks board has a choice
Spend R100000+ to move one Rhino to another park thereby saving 1 Rhino
Or put that same money into anti poaching and thereby maybe save 20 or more.
Now add another R1mil into that pot and how many can you save at the cost of 1
