F-Zero GX Chapter 5 Very Hard

I remember when I completed this one on very hard. It took many tries, but when I finally got it I actually ran out of time. The Blue Falcon was exploding when it reached the ramp at the end. When you look at my record for very hard its at like 40.134 seconds or something like that.

@Jesse12489 Yeah, it's hard to beat, because they get more aggressive, especially Black Shadow, an additional lap, but the biggest challenge is that they will catch up really fast by boosting.

GAAAAH!!! to anyone who has beaten this, can you answer me this question: Does pressing the L or R buttons to bank left or right decrease your speed at all? because I find it extremely difficult to have to rely on just the contrl stick alone. I either turn too much, or lose control. Also, what settings, should I set for the blue falcon? high acceleration or max speed? this is the only mission I have yet to complete on very hard, and I've had this game since it came out. help please.

@boolengleng Set the Blue Falcon to max speed, since slowing down or hitting anything is death anyway.

Also, I made a flawless run using L and R to drift, and I reached the finish about half a second too late. It might be possible, but it looks like you should rely on just steering instead.

Approx. 3-4 hours of agonizing mishaps and "arrgh, almost had it"s, I finally beat it, and the Cosmic Dolphin is finally mine.

Apparently it clocked at 40.044 seconds...

I completed this back in 2003.

This stage on Very Hard was an absolute pain in the ass.

You had to keep boosting endlessly, collect all regenerators, run over all the boosts, the slightest contact with the walls would cost you the entire race, and you had to tilt the control stick down slightly to make it through the final gate.

To this day, I have not replayed this stage since.

Holy crap... I have been trying this mission every couple of years and finally i gave it 3 hours or so today and I finally did it! What a rush! And it was faster time than this video :)

I had always been trying it time and time again by using the slide technique to avoid doors but it really does slow u down, I would always make it to door and it would LITERALLY close ON ME and I fail. Every time. You have to play it with joystick only, and come to think of it, it was easier too.

@DaLooseGoose11 Yeah, I would suggest playing it over and over with the slide until you completely memorize the stage, when you can consistently make it to the boost pads at the end. Then I would say to work on doing it with the joystick alone, it seems like it would be harder but everything just takes practice, if you have to try playing with the control calibration and making the blue (dead field) bigger or smaller for your taste. And focus on getting all the capsules without hitting anything

@DaLooseGoose11 Oh I would also suggest the MT Boost technique that can be used, (I didn't use it) but it can certainly help. Google: "F-Zero GX MT Boost" its pretty much the way of letting go of the gas before a boost runs out, and it maintains the speed it pushed you to, and then resuming the gas to finish the boost that was left when you were experiencing it for the most part its supposed to be let go - resume before the engine gas animation disappears. But maximizing the time you let go. G/L

I played this for two and a half hours straight before I finally got to the end in time, only to be SLIGHTLY off-centre and hit the side of the door. I have never felt so defeated by a game than this.

How I did this in the end is unbelievable. I got to the end too late, the doors had closed and I had paused it, before deciding again to give up. So I just unpaused it, only for the game to scream "MISSION CLEAR!" despite being a third of a second too late! I absolutely hit the roof!

My advice: Set it to max speed, ALWAYS be furiously tapping the boost button, and DON'T use the R and L buttons to tilt, you actually lose speed doing that. The best way is to just turn with the regular joystick, that way you don't lose speed. True, its not as easy as sliding with R/L, but it's the best (and pretty much only) way. I just beat this on very hard with a finish time of 39 " 05 by doing the aforementioned things. And don't give up! It might take an hour sitting (or two)

it's actually more possible compared to the other Very Hard missions, especially when racing other racers that seem to have infinite boosts, perfect turn control and they all hate you, as well as collecting capsules with a strict time limit within three laps, not to mention racing a ghost racer in an absurd level with no gaurd rails....at least the Bloody Chain level on Very Hard was easy and fun.

I just cleared this (on very hard) mission again, it's not that hard but you can't make any mistakes some maybe it is hard any way.

Here are some tips.

You must constantly boost and have good flow in your control. To avoid the walls just stop boosting until you're aligned with them then boost throught the walls. Look ahead for the pattern and get adjusted as soon as you get your power up. Personally I stay on one side.

No matter how good you are it's going to be close.

I understand the concept of beating it. But the problem is pulling it off. I mostly take damage near the end, trying to straighten the car so it goes thru the small gaps.

it's all a matter of reflexes, memorization, constant retries, patience and luck. Just one bump slowing you down just slightly is enough for a mission failure...but the feeling of you pulling it off is rewarding in itself, not just for the unlockable character you get for this.

I have a question. I havn't really paid attention to when I do it but when you tilt your aircraft does it actually reduce as much speed as say turning? I've attempted this mission many times and calibrated my controls so the joystick is tilt rather than turn to help keep the Blue Falcon from sliding too much and I've maxed my top speed in the setting. I always reach the end, every booster and no hits on walls but I'm always less than a second short. Is it because I'm tilting rather than tilting?

drifting from side to side should'nt slow you down at all, though for this mission you have to know when to drift and when to turn since the game gives you just barely enough time to make it to the end given if you don't hit anything and get all of the fuel cells. It takes a ton of practice, but just keep boosting and memorizing each fuel cell and obstacle location until you finally get it right.

God, I loved/hated this mission.

Loved: You'd actually improve with each try, thereby making you want to try again and again,

Hated: That little tilt you needed at the end or you'd hit the top side of that last bloody door when you jump.

Beat it though, lots of tries, all in one sitting :p
