  • Great song...written after the death of His father!

  • They don't come any better than this! Johnny should have made it a lot bigger that he did, but who knows-- maybe he wanted it this way. I feel good when I see posts from young folks who appreciate this great music almost as much as us boomers.

  • I had forgot all about this amazing Singer.

Memories of My High School Boy Friend.

    His Love, I Lost.

  • Good thing Johnny is still here and still sings.

  • What a classic... I love it! :)

  • how true how many times have you cried yourself to sleep One of the best Johnny Tilitson

  • This reminds me of all the loved ones we have lost to

the passage of time! It does keep right on hurting, until

we are reunited! Then there will be no more hurting....

there will be tears, but they will be tears of joy.............!

  • @kathykay2010: When I read your comment, I started to sob because I remembered all of the great ones we have lost: Del Shannon, Bobby Hatfield, Roy Orbison, Johnny Burnette, etc.

  • A singer who belongs to the A list. It is sad he was not accorded his rightful place, no idea why

  • I heard this song on many a jukebox; after 1970, it kind of died out. Great song from a great era in music.

  • I love his music. He sang so many beautiful songs. Brings back memories of my teen years!

  • Powerful song & artist. Many fond memories from baby boomer years. Thanks for posting.

  • While this seems to be a love gone bad song, I understand this was written as a tribute to Johnny's grandfather upon his death. Such a great tribute.

  • Listening to Johnny brings back great memories of a youth that has past and will never return ecxcept in memories. It is great to have this service on the net so we can return to those days at least in our mind.

Elvis Presley covered this song on a album called "FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS"

and he did a great Cover version of Johnny's song.

  • He sings and puts on an awesome performance. I use to watch him do the Jerry Lewis telathon in O.K.C Look at us were talking. lood at us we're walking. We love you and your music. Love you Judy from Norman, Okla.

  • He is the ultimate singer and the sweetis smile I have ever seen.I saw him Norman,Ok. Thirty two years ago. I still have your five auto. pictures. I let my twelve year grandson listen to Judy Judy Judy and told him you did it for me. God forgive me for this little lie. Love your music still. Judy

  • ok

  • A Top 5 hit for Johnny Tillotson in the summer of 1962. It also did well on the Country & Western charts and the Rhythm & Blues charts. It also hit #31 in the United Kingdom. On a personal note, this song was on the charts when I came into the world. How the music scene has changed.

  • my nephew michael pierce tagg loves this song

  • This was on the Cadence label in the U. S.

  • All of Johnny's songs are treasures. One of the best singers from the 60's...

  • to the 4 people that don't like this song there's no doubt about it, you're a communist

  • @Boomer1947 Hopefully these 4 people were not voting against this beautiful song I think as I once did I voted against a song by mistake .It only took once to make me realize my mistake.Being a newby to utube and learning how to navigate. Johnny Tillotson sure had a smooth voice and great music when I was a teen and I still love his music as a senior

  • my life's been empty since you've been gone ... :(

  • it keeps right on a hurtin, since your gone ...

  • I listened to this growing up as a teen-ager, never have forgotten the words to this song. Great music from an artist that never reached the fame he was so deserving of...Thanks..Cheers..

  • @5765203 Johnny is still with us! I loved him way back when.... one of the best!

  • @5765203 You may be confusing Johnny with Elvis. Elvis is dead, Paul McCartney is alive, and Johnny Tillotson is appearing this coming weekend in Cerritos, California.

  • This is by far JT's biggest hit. It was played mostly on Pop stations at the time. JT was a singer who (like Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, Bobby Vinton, Tommy Roe, Brenda Lee and others) recorded in Nashville but was rarely heard on Country radio until years later.

  • Here's to Johnny with thanks for all your songs and memories.

  • Another singer of the 60's.What a great time that was. Like it a lot.

  • for years johny wason the jukes all around the country. every so often i have tpo spend times with his music. ty for posting

  • OMG I love this song so much!!!!! Just one of my favorites of the olden days!

  • In Billy Joe Royal's cover, he took off the 'A-' from the title. He hit #17 in Billboard, 10-29-88. No offense meant here, Joan, but, God bless! I'm a Christian, I always end my comments with that.

  • Thank you so much for posting.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • omg i cant believe this song is posted on here. thank you so much, since my momma died i cldnt find the song again. thanks so so much.

  • If not the greatest song ever recorded, at least on of them, by one of the greatest singers of my time. Also written by Johnny.

  • I still like this song after all these years. This song was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar as a teenager.Take care ADonovan43

  • this is the kind of song that when it comes on your radio while you driving..you quickly turn it up...and sing along with johnny tillotson...and whereever it takes you back too...a smile comes to your face..your heart begins to lighten up...and you hate to hear it end...its that good...

  • I have been in love with him since I was 15 years old. What can I say? Does any one remember Fabian? I sure do.He was awesome but got tired of getting his clothes ripped off so he quit singing.I was so upset over that because I didn't know where the line was .(hahahaha)

  • He must have loved his father very much to write and sing this song, well his father did bring a great talent into this world.

  • Not enough of this type of music played now days

  • Gorgeous tune , thankyou.

  • Country music back when this song came out was true country music.Today i don't know what you call it but it sure ain't country

  • This guy is awsome I never knew he did so many great songs

  • Loved this song. One of my favorites growing up

  • i lived next door to jhoney when he was on wjxt tv in jax. fl.he would come to our house and play our pano and sing he was a very nice boy

  • I like also his song "True, True Happiness". Wish someone will post this song.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written and sung, by the fantastic Johnny Tillotson.

  • I had this album - it was solid even back in the day. It didn't have the ACE cover shown here - I always liked this song tho

  • I miss my Jack Dog

  • First time I heard this song, I was just a kid ... I still remember it. His voice is just amazing ....

  • One of my favorite oldies! Thanks for sharing this!

  • I loved all of his songs. Wonderful voice!

  • Beautiful!

  • is he still here

  • the singer with a clear audible melodious voice and delivers his songs with such emotions. this IS one sad song.

  • His ailing father, was his inspiration to write this song. It was #3 on the charts, as I remember.

  • sad!! but how beautiful!!!

  • Love it x

  • This song wasn't meant to be called country it seems but it's so close to a country ballad that I always put it in my Favorites. I love to listen to Johnny sing this and, to me, it's his signature song. The orchestra is wonderful here. Johnny is a terrific artist.

Thank you for posting this. - Paula

  • My favourite singer since my childhood days. Great singer! Never get tired of listening to his songs.

  • Good version but I like Elvis' better

  • The Elvis version is good but I think Johnny's is better.

  • RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!!!!

  • @Newport1974 I would hope Johnny's version was better than Elvis's. Johnny did WRITE THE SONG after all!

  • Johnny Tillotson was my teenage idol. It seems like yesterday I first heard him in concert and nervously got his autograph. :-) He was and is still a fantastic singer, one I will continue to admire. Thanks for posting this song. :-)

    Wanda L. Harrell

  • Fantastic song, Johnny Tillotson and Ray Petersen are both very underrated and should have made it much bigger than they did. Thanks for posting this great song

  • Terrific song...period!!!!!

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • Favorite from my teens!

  • Thanks for the post. This was popular on my parents restaurant jukebox in the mid 1970s

  • Great song! Wonderful arrangement. This

song was a big hit when I was in school

    almost half a century ago.

I have Alzheimer's now. Was trying to think

who sang this: Bobby Vinton or Bobby Vinson?

Turned out to be neither. SOL Smiling

    out loud.

    Tx 4 the post.

  • To a very special person that I just lost Oct 31 god bless you Darrell!! you will always be in my heart and others. love you always Alan.

  • my grandma loves this song XD

  • jawaha75243 I completely agree with you. This is definitely classic country and the country singers today do not understand this music. For one thing none of them are happy with what they really sing. Being on country charts aren't good enough for them. they want on pop charts and rock charts too. It has really lowered the standards for good C&W music.

  • I have special memories of this one. It's considered classic country today, but when it was popular, most country radio stations would not play it because it wasnt considered country music, it got lots of play on the radio stations teens listened to. Today it would be considered too country to be played on country music stations that love to say they play country music when in reality they have no idea what country music really is

  • Seems I got lost in time, this song has never been considered country although it would have been played on country stations, it was fro the Rock& Roll Era early 1950,s early 1960's then it all went to pot.

  • As George Bernard Shaw said: "Like all young men, you greatly exaggerate the difference between one young woman and another."

  • such a beautiful dreamy voice. my mum and dad used to listen to him, such happy times. then me and my husband, now the teenage kids listen to him, some peoples voices are ageless.

  • 'Tear jerkin' at it's best!

  • this is one of my sister lorna's favorite song.i recall good times with my mom and dad. thanks for posting.'

  • What a great singer! Terrific memories of his songs as well as of late husband with same name I am doubly thankful

  • his best ever!

  • This is the Song my Dad sang for my Mam now Mam has passes 6 years ago and everytime were at a function the Family get Dad to sing it i love it. It always makes me think of the Lovely times Mam & Dad spent together Love ye Both x x x x

  • First heard this on Juke Box Jury when the panel didn't like it-I loved it and it is one of my all time favourites-Great song wonderful arrangement and perfect vocal from Johnny. Thanks for this one.

  • There's not much more you can say about the great Johnny Tillotson that hasn't been said already. He truely is a legend in his own time. Thanks Johnny for all your great music and the wonderful memories you made for us.

  • His best song...

  • @ndhudecz agree

  • a real classic.....let's add 1000000 stars.

  • It doesn't get much better than this, Johnny singing his own composition.

  • nice voice and a very emotional song..thank you !

  • I agree with maple(see below)--Johnny was def. under-appreciated--great clear as a bell voice

  • SuperSidman and all.

How interesting about writing this for his Dad.

I was a kid and my uncle LOVED this song so much that his wife had it engraved on his

Memorial Stone when he died from cancer. Wow! Fab Song. When it was played on the juke box back then, everyone in the bar, restaurant or diner would sing along. Fun memories. Thanks,YouTube.

  • You can never go wrong with Johnny Tillotson songs. In my opinion, he was one of the most under appreciated artists of his time. Thanks for posting this wonderful classic and making me feel like a teenager again. I suspect I'll be singing this tune in my brain for the rest of the weekend. A Totally Terrific Tillotson Treasure from Trenton. Thanks.

  • @MapleSyrupBoyEh - You are so right. He was always one of my favorites, and I never could understand why everyone else I knew thought he was mediocre. He was great, and I wore this record out when I was in high school.

  • I believe this to be one of His greatest.Though He was pure awesome.I read where he wrote this song r recorded it for His dad who had cancer.

  • Yeh...47yrs & I can still cry over this one....Who says time heals.....Love ya Johnny...from New Zealand....xxxx

  • Thanks, for posting, nice memories from 1952, this made both the country and pop charts back then

  • mac26x98: Maybe you meant 1962

  • yes, '62

  • Im not too sure but i dont think this was a

big record in the U.K. It should haye been.

  • Great song!!!

Yeah, it damn sure does, Johnny Lee Hagood!!!

  • An all-time great song ... and Johnny's fine singing beautifully accompanied by "sweetening" strings. - This song was covered by Jean Shepard in the end-70's and I also like that version. - Thanks for posting!

  • Sounds like Booby Vinton a bit.

Check out Elvis Presley's cover from 1969.

    It's really good as well.

  • A great singer with a great voice. He will never be forgotten. He came from a era that had the best music.

  • Johnny has one of the purest voices ever. You never wondered, "What did he say?" His enunciation was flawless. Some of today's "superstars" should listen to a REAL SINGER. They might learn a lesson on delivery of a song. But probably not. Today's artists think THEY wrote the book on performing. It's sad. Guys like JT are still the best. And the arrangements and musicians were first-rate. Some of his hits sound like they were recorded in Nashville. Is that Floyd Cramer on piano by any chance?

  • Right on bulldogbarks55.Johnny definitely could enunciate His words.I agreee these so singers today litterally just bahbahbah.Right on Johnny Tillotson. And He still has it today.

  • Yes, indeed. Also Harold Bradley on guitar, and all the other Nashville A-Teamers including the Anita Kerr Singers - And strings from the Nashville Symphony, too - they always used to moonlight on those sessions.

  • beautifull song and a wonderfull singer , good memories

    thanks for sharing

    cheers

  • this brings back so many memories. thankyou

  • I just love this song by Johnny. It has always been my very favorite of all . Thank you so very much for posting. Always Cindy

  • This is one of those songs that will stand the test of time. This song brings back a world of memories from a special time. Thanks.

  • One of the truly great singers from the late 50's to the mid 60's. I own every record, album and EP he ever did. Great memories from my youth. Met him while I was in the ARMY. Great guy!

  • always liked this song, thanks for posting! lonelystreet

  • One of my favorite songs along with "Out Of My MInd." Something about this song that gets to you.

  • Thanks for adding this one!! Great song. Eventhough I was only 10 when it came out I remember my parents and neighbors playing it and singing along at warm evening outside get togethers in CT!

  • one thing about music like this is that you very seldom ever see a thumbs down

  • One of the first LP:s I bought!

I have liked him from the first time I heard

    him!

  • Thanks for the posting, great song!

  • Your very welcome, glad you like it!

  • @livingadream2 Johnny Tillotson was my favorite when I was a teenager in the early 60's but When I heard Gene Watson I driffed away from that era and will forever be a Gene Watson Fan . They both have such a wonderful way with each song, but I got to finally meet Gene Watson; his music and voice touches my heart.

  • I've always loved this song. Johnny Tillotson wrote a winner for sure. He sounds good either country or pop. It's amazing when talented entertainers can write a very beautiful song about a love loss whether they have lived it themselves or not. I hadn't heard this one in years so it's a real treat to be able to enjoy this now. Thank you for posting. - Paula

  • Johnny sure did write a winner! He does sound good in everything he sings! I'm so glad you like it, thanks again for listening!

  • fantastic-i have not heard this for years-thanks for this one

  • Glad you like it! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Great One.

    DDR

  • Agreed! Thanks for listening!

  • I have this on my Johnny CD and I love it.Thanks J.T. for sending.5*****'s. Shirley

  • Thanks Shirley for stopping by and a thank you to J.T. for sharing it with you!

  • This song is exactly how I feel right now, missing my girlfriend who just broke up with me. I miss her a lot.... Thanks Johnny for putting my feelings so perfectly in a song....

  • You Tube is great, having the opportunity to listen to these old classics, if one doesn't have the original 45, but why isn't the author /composer given credit!!??..who wrote this tune??....think the composer should always be given credit on all these tunes on you tube or anywhere else in fact!..thanks in advance Bruce

  • I agree with you. This is Johnny's own composition which brought Johnny his first Grammy nomination along with the distinction of becoming one of the first "cross-over" artists. This established Johnny as a country-pop star. The song went on to be recorded by 108 artists including Elvis Presley and most recently it became a #l selling country hit by Billy Joe Royal. Thanks for stopping by!

  • I just wonder how many people have allowed this particular song to become "reality". This is one of the prettiest songs ever sang by "one of the greatest singers of all times"

This song only gets better with time. By the way, my life has "rotated" around this very song. "It is so sad, so beautiful, and once again, in "reality", TRUE. Thanks for the "memories".

  • Your welcome, I'm pretty sure there are many who allowed this song to become reality. Thanks for listening!

  • even we're from different generation but when come to music how strange everything connect us....tq very much.....

  • A beautiful ballad, a beautiful song - the 60's will live on and on...

  • As long as there are people like us who keep on playing and listening.....Thanks for listening!

  • It brings back the memories of yesteryears.

    Keep on listening.

  • Thanks for posting!
