people need to stop commenting when they don't know anything about saddlebreds. saddle seat is very different than hunt seat. not all types of riding are the same, if you haven't noticed. saddlebreds naturally carry their heads high. they naturally pick their legs up high. chains are just a way of making them pick their legs up higher & they shouldn't hurt the horse b/c they aren't suppose to be tight around the ankles.
i know some people can be cruel to make them do this but not everyone is.
this is probably too old a video to ask a question but I'm curious. When they park out like that under saddle, is the rider supposed to sit differently? I know SB's have such long backs, seems like a rider should lean forward? I Don't know, just wondering. Beautiful mare. Love to have me a show horse like her someday.
ive been working with Saddlebreds for over six years now and personily i see a Saddlebred who loves what there doing and does it to the best of their ability. Hi, I was wondering if this horse is for sale? I am looking for a horse that has had experience showing before and can tolerate an amateur rider. I am looking on behalf of someone who rides at our barn. If this horse is no longer for sale, and you have others, please let me know. I am looking for a horse suitable for an amateur under $10,000. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks!
I have personally seen this horse, shes an amazing and beautiful animal, and for all of you who dont ride saddleseat, we use only our legs, the high head carriage is natural for all saddlebreds, ive learned from the best if you even pull on the mouth of a saddlebred youll just agrivate them and maybe get flipped backwards. saddleseat is all with the legs, and its NOT ABUSIVE.!
This mare is not pulling on the bridle. She's very light and not rooting at all. Her head movement is response to her animation in the walk. My Mare is barefoot and trots that high, Saddlebreds have it or they don't. Shoes and training aids only enhance - the can't give a horse motion that isn't inclined. I have another one that is 100% proof of that!
OMG gorgeous! is this mare for sale? And nope is is not cruel! I have ridden saddleseat all of my riding time and it is more fun than any other dicipline!!! Anybody can be abusing to their animals so dont look down on saddleseat people! I dont agree with everything some saddleseat people do but I doont agree with A LOT of things jumpers do, western and dressage as well
@rockspock66 What you say is pure ignorance. First off, have you never seen a person post before? Because I've seen people bounce around in the saddle, and he's not even close. And even so, there are no 'vital organs to injure' which is the main reason people oppose the cutback saddle. Second, nothing is forced about that horse's action. She is a very exquisite mare and has a LOT of natural action. I've seen horses do that barefoot, as I'm sure she does as well.
@Gienzelientje8875 This isnt abuse! I ride saddlebreds. Horses arent built to jump. mabey over a small incline to escape attack every once in a while in the wild. thats not abuse because the horse has to enjoy jumping to even attempt it. Chains are an aid. If you keep them on too long the hurt, but not if just a little throuout weeks
Very nice horse!!! Holy cow! lol I dont personally like park breeds only because their movement looks awkward to me lol! But very pretty horse and she looks very responsive to everthing the rider is telling her! Show and breeding material right there!
The horse has toe weighted shoes on, chains and are stacked. All of these things if done properly by a good CJF do not permanently alter the horses body. Its similar to using wide shoes on a dressage horse. You can take it all off and the horse is the same as when it went on (if done properly). As for riding so far back on the horse I don't have enough knowledge of the riding style of Saddlebred conformation to pass any judgment there. And for those of you that care...Yes I am a farrier.
Oh yeah because chaining a horses feet together is oh so natural. I jump my horses but i never restrict their NATURAL movement in any way what so ever.
Don't gt me wrong, that is a stunning horse, but deliberately deforming your horse is just wrong, a lot like those idiots on TWH's. Plus when you sit that far back you are gonna be on their kidneys!
The chains are only a training aid and they dont hurt the horse. And this mare isn't even wearing chains in the video. And how the hell is she deformed in any way? The last comment really tells me your ignorant. Saddlebreds have longer backs than most horses, because they're made to do saddleseat. So no, hes not on her kidneys.
You need to do your research or just stick to jumping.
@neilsbitch666 You do realize by jumping your horse you are destroying it's body? Horses were not originaly built to jump constantly and so hips and knees are going out slowly on your horse, horible injuries can come from jumpping horses and honestly if anyone is abusive it's you people and your forcing these animals to do something they arn't meant to. I see my ASB picking their feet up like this naturaly when running around free...NEVER do I see them naturaly wanting to jump over anything.
@DarkAngelAzreil Your A dumbass. Im sorry really. horses do naturally jump, my horse naturally jumps fences, (free jumping) my horse also jumped over the fence to get intohis paddock. I also own a Saddlebred, and she naturally picks her feet up like this.
@neilsbitch666 I have never seen a Saddlebred's feet chained together... ever. I see absolutely no deformity here. I was with her this morning, actually, and I can assure you she's perfectly fine. As for sitting far back... We place our saddles no differently than everyone else. That's why you two-point when they urinate. Feel free to point out any sort or "deformity," but I'll be here to tell you that there's nothing wrong with her. Like I said, I see her every week.
Looks a little off in the back...the right hind is coming up alot comparatively to the back left at the walk. Or does she naturally favor one over the other. Looks like an heavy weighted shoe job. Beautiful mare though.
@charmis7 umm...saddle seat saddles are made to be far back like that. So you kind of need to sit that way. Its made to allow the horse to have free movement of its front end to lift from the shoulder freely.
throwing their legs up high because of the chains above their hooves and acids on their legs is soo damn cute! beeing pulled in their mouth so hard with such a heavy bridle.. wtf?
@uniekepaperclip As with all styles of riding, there will always be stables that use inhumane methods. I personally know this horse, and can tell you that no acid has been used on her legs. As for chains. Yes. We use chains, but we never, EVER sore our horses. Pulling on the mouth? Not with a Saddlebred. They naturally set their heads there. Molly O' Donnel is a very happy, sweet horse. Do not judge on the style of riding. It's like saying all jumpers use electricity to force higher jumps.
@uniekepaperclip you obviously dont know what stress is. stress /can/ be making your horse jump 6 feet in the air with 120+ pounds on its back, yet it is an olympic sport much more popular than saddleseat. what you dont realize is saddlebreds move like this naturally (there are videos of young, untouched-by-human ones on here doing the exact same thing) and if you cant get that through your head i believe there is really no hope for ignorant people like you!
I know this horse! Her barn name isn't Molly any more. She's Brittany, now since we already had a Molly. She's with Knollwood Farm now. We love her lots. She's such a sweet girl!
Thats not natural. The horse is set in a frame..her head is up and her back is hollow unlike in Dressage where the horse isn't just in a frame but actually using its hindquarters so it is light on the forehand. No offense to saddleseat but I don't think its right. And I do have horses so I would appreciate it if people wouldn't complain to me about how I don't know what I'm talking about and blah blah blah. Just stating my opinion
@edlovehorses maybe its normal to what youre used to, but those horses are BRED for that conformation. thats why you dont see QHs or paints doing saddleseat. like i said earlier, 'just because its different doesnt mean its wrong!' if you see a young, untrained, shoeless saddlebred in pasture, you will notice they are doing the same thing--feet/head up. also, the tack (cutback saddle) gives them free-er motion in their shoulders, thus generating what you think is a hollow back (it is really not).
@edlovehorses if you dont believe me on my last comment, look this up: 'Phi Chi, American Saddlebred mare for sale $8500' on here, (it may not look natural to you, but its natural of a horse of that build) and, how can dressage look any more natural than saddleseat? do you see warmbloods or hanos doing pirouettes or half passes in pasture when no one is around? i have nothing against dressage (trust me, i do eventing occasionally along with saddleseat and reining and love them all) just saying.
@SaddlebredAddict In response to your comment on Dressage. Dressage actually uses the natural actions of the horse although they aren't aren't as exagerated as they are under saddle, they are still natural movements. Ever seen a horse side step away from something? Same basic principle as the half pass. Like I said, though, every style of riding is different. Every rider has their own views (some right, some wrong). Leave it at this: If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all.
@geekyXkrusnik i apologize for that. just trying to make a point that saddleseat isnt more 'unnatural' than dressage (not saying its unnatural!). like you said, "dressage accually used the natural actions of the horse" just the same with saddleseat. saddlebreds would, like arabs, naturally step and carry their heads high. we just accentuate it. sorry if i offended anyone. like i said in an earlier post "i also do dressage along with reining and saddleseat" i wouldnt want to bash my own sports!
@geekyXkrusnik also, in your comment about "if you cant say anything nice... etc" i really think that advice would be better directed to the saddlebred haters out there bashing this beautiful creature.
and to all those people, like ive been saying over and over "just because its different doesnt mean it is wrong!!" try it (riding a good show horse) before you ridicule it! and if youre too stubborn to, then leave us alone and mind your own darn business!
@SaddlebredAddict Oh no no! That comment wasn't aimed at you! It was just a general add on for the people that were bashing the different styles of riding. I try to clear up arguments, not cause them. :) Sorry if you misread that. I should have been more clear.
about what breed was made in america first, i meant 'the first with its own breed registry in america'. sorry for the confusion! as far as the first bred, its very controversial. when the founding ASBs and QHs were born (as distinct breeds), they came out within a couple years or even months of each other, so ill give QHs that much. either way, they came out right around the same time. watch 'The Amazing American Saddlebred' video on here to really clear things up! it will really clear thingsup!
@Azurarose i only said it was the oldest in america, not in the world. i know TBs and arabs are waaaay older! i didnt mean to offend you (you seem like you have an open enough mind, thanks for not bashing the ASB just because its different! other people should follow your example.)
I for one am not sure what I think. I'm not a fan of how they're set up (As someone who was raised around TB, it doesn't look right), and I'm really not big on that exaggerated, high stepping movement (Not big on the top dressage either for the same reason). But hey, each to their own. As I mentioned before, I'm a TB girl. She's a pretty enough horse, I'll give her that.
this creature is truly beautiful, and if some of you ignorant people who have apparently been living under a rock the past 3 centuries (as long as saddlebreds have been around, yes, even longer than your /precious/ QHs) cant see that tan i feel really, really sorry for you. you just need to quit ridiculing others and get a friggin life! most of us dont abuse our horses, and if you cant grasp that, than you really need to work that out elsewhere. this ignorance just infuriates me to no end.
@SaddlebredAddict You know, I'm 95% sure that QH may be just as old, if not older. And if they aren't, I know for a fact that my precious Thoroughbred are much older, not to mention the arabians.
about the chains, they only are there to jingle and make the horse feel like he is stepping out of something so he lifts his legs higher that what you all are probably used to. the only way the chains would cause pain is if the horse is 'sored' (had illegal, harmful chemicals applied) first. this 'soreing' practice is sometimes seen in big lick walkers and not usually in saddlers. this is because it usually has the opposite effect on saddlers due to their different build and coformation.
ignorant people... first of all, you got your saddlebreds and big-lick TWHs confused. the chains DO NOT make the horses feet hurt, and i know that for a fact (i actually wore them around my wrists between putting them on/off the horses and they caused no pain whatsoever)...
crazy how many people who know nothing about horses want to comment and tell horse trainers that they are cuel, with out horse trainers no one would want a horse trainers make it so horses have a home, I have a couple saddlebred I usually train them and sell colts, they are gaited and do the gaits in pasture or when riding and they usually will ride with their tail up with out me doing anything ot make them.training is needed to make them look that good, don't criticize what you don't know
It is crazy how many people who know nothing about horses want to comment and tell horse trainers that they are cuel, with out horse trainers no one would want a horse trainers make it so horses have a home, I have a couple saddlebred I usually train them and sell colts, they are gaited and do the gaits in pasture or when riding and they usually will ride with their tail up with out me doing anything ot make them.training is needed to make them look that good, don't criticize what you don't know
No words!!! And then the title of the Song: "Run Free"!!! This is not the way how a FREE horse should move. It's so sad that such methods are allowed in your country! How old does these horses get until their backs are destroyed? Or their souls? This is so cruel to look at!
if the action is natural, the horse shouldn't need 'bracelets' or 'rattles' to force higher action. she is beautiful. Hope her tail wasn't broken. My TWH carries his tail like that whenever he's trotting or cantering out in pasture. He's just exhuberant! Doesn't mounting when they're 'parked out' like that strain their back?
@yeahbyme Not all saddlebred trainers use ginger. In fact in the rule book it says that pleasure horses are not allowed to be gingered. What are rattlers? I have never heard of them, or I might just call it by a different name
@Rack1On Rattlers are what they called those fetlock braceletsthe horse enough Ginger burns and stings, so they hold thier tails up. Usually the tails have been broken, and false tails worn.
@saddlebredhorsegirl I think tails are often broken, or cut. The rattlers are chains and make the pasterns very sore. I believe these practises shou;ld be banned, and I find the exaggerated gaits ugly, especially knowing how that elevation is achieved.
Don't saddlebreds have to wear saddel pads like any other horse? The farm I go to has saddelbreds on the other side, and I havn't seent them not use a saddle with out a pad. I don't mean to be critizing. She has a Beautiful canter! The girth line was off.
people ive been reading through ur comments and its a personal choice if you dont like saddlebreds and saddleseat then why are you watching this. and molly is a really nice mare i rode her when i ditched school..sorta so if you want to get in a argument bout this do it on a different video.
p.s. you dont see use commenting rudely on your breeds dont do it to ours
OMg, she lookes cool, but you should see Glen valley's a rare elegance barefoot, with no shoes on. Way more motion, and a ton better headset, and remember, A Rare Elegance is barefoot.
Oh...... ALL the hoofs are TOTALLY disbalanced:((((( TOO high, too wrong in the angles. SURE it has enormous discomfort and jerks legs everytime there is possibility to make themback in the air....
too bad thats not even true. i do think he is making her stretch waay to far. the front legs are supposed to be vertical. but her feet have a nice action and they do that naturally thats what theyre bred to do. ive seen them when theyre turned out with nothing on at all. they do the same thing.
"ive seen them when theyre turned out with nothing on at all. they do the same thing." - xDridiculous, so then they ALL must be th elaminitis horsesXD.... It's a shame.....
So, DAMN it, WHY CAN'T THEY REMOVE PADS, BRIDLES, THOSE HEAVY SHOES AND BRING BACK THE HOOFS TO THE NATURAL CORRECT ANGELS???? IF it's so natural >:((((((
I have to ask about the tail...I know that they can be "broken" by cutting ligiments, and placing them in a tail set, but have all these horses with that high tail set had this done? and if so, why would you do that to your horse?
this mare is not a gaited horse she is shown in Show Pleasure - and Molly is one of the sweetest mares - The girl who owns/shows her Ashley - is one of my good friends and she and this mare get along great. so If you have any other questions or nasty comments i suggest you just think before your speak..
Why do people trim gaited horses feet to look like that? That's not the natural shape of ANY horses hoof! And do they put chains around their hooves to make them step higher? That doesn't seem nice to me.
Those shapes aren't there hooves.. there weight pads to help them step higher, there like hand weights to humans, its to strengthen there legs. and the chains aren't connected to there hooves there put around there ankles again for weight purposes... it doesn't hurt the horse.
Thanks for the info. To me, this horse looks very tense, and nothing in her movements tells me that she's truly happy or relaxed. The unnatural movements of her legs look very fake and uncomfortable for her, and making her stand "camped out" puts a TREMENDOUS amount of stress on her back. Her eyes are alert, but not happy alert. Her back seems really stiff with this guy on her, like she's stilted and unable to move in the way her body naturally dictates. To me, this looks almost mean.
Standing camped out puts stress on her back? You will have to tell that to my horse cause he does it all the time...on his own in the pasture and with a rider on his back.
Excuse me, my horse is completely sound, he is a barefoot trail horse who has never been lame in his 16 years and has NEVER used weighted shoes. Maybe you should ask before you assume the worst of other people. As I said my horse will stand "camped" out of his own free will. What makes you such an expert on other peoples horses anyway. Have you ever worked with a bred that is shown camped out. Or are you just another uneducated person spount propagana?
@Calicat1994 ok, here's the deal. Yeah, my last comment was a little rude, it was meant to be. This fight will NEVER end because as humans we both agree to disagree on what we think is "right" for our horses. Yes, I've ridden horses that have been trained to camp out, and yes, I think it's bad for their backs. You don't. That's fine. It's your horse, your responsibility. I choose not to do that to my horse, nor any horse I ride because I don't think it's right.
Actually, my first comment was supposed to be humorous, becouse in some cases, I actually agree that standing camped puts stress on a horses back. but I have owned my horse since he was a weanling and I did say that he did it on his own...if it strains his back, that doesn't stop him doing without prompting. That is why I don't think it strains every horses back to stand that way. Why would he intentionally hurt himself when he didn't have to?
Also, I ride my horse almost always bareback, barefoot, and most of the time in a tom thumb bit, with loose reins. Maybe your approach to expressing your opinion should change, as getting rude is immature and childish and makes you come across like someone who couldn't care less about the issue and just wants afight.
ya she does look a bit stiff in the hind but she is not she is just walking like that because the person on her is sliding his bridle but not making her walk forward fast enough and because saddlebreds are soooo big the need equal balace when he dosent aske her to walk faster she gest kind of scrunced and her back end hasno where to go but up and when she goes up she looks stiff. its not her its only the matter of poor riding thats making her do that.
i love Saddlebred's walk it's so much fun they just glide! also the horse i ride, luna, her canter is so smooth literally u just sit there and do nothing it's just really smooth! looks really bumpy but extremely smooth!
I grew up near a saddlebred farm and took lessons in saddleseat. I love saddlebreds however I think they look better with natural tails and non-weighted shoes. I love the three gaited horses, but I must say I have never understood why the mane and tail have to be shaved, I have always think it looks gross.
i love the horse but that guy IS kinda making her stretch a little too far. a saddlebreds stretch is supposed to have their front legs vertical. also shes a young horse with a grown man on her back thats gotta hurt when she stretches that far!!
This is a gorgeous mare. Saddlebreds are bred to move and carry themselves this way, the training simply puts it to use. However, I must agree that she looks like she's overflexing her right hock.
warum müssen saddlebred-reiter den pferden so dermaßen auf der lende sitzen... und das harte setzen beim leichttraben is auch das letzte... nix über die normale englisch-deutsche reitweise...
I think it looks ridiculous. I don't know if they use cruel methods to get them to move and stand like that, but it looks very forced and uncomfortable.
Parking out, for Saddlebreds anyway, was taught originally back when they were bred because they are so tall when they parked out, it was easier for the rider to get on. I only ride 1 saddlebred that actually parks out and I still can't reach the stirrups from on the ground, so I use a stool. Kids I know who ride saddleseat call it "standing pretty".
to find that on his info sheet he was only freaking 13.he had his tail tied to the wall so he couldnt get his extentions dirty .so i know a lot of the diffrent torture treatments i mentioned arnt for the saddle breed but im taling about the twh and the saddlebred .so know one try to tell me this shit aint real cuz iv seen it for myself and i was offered by saddlbred breeders to show for them and i found out at my first show prepartion and quit.Yes the saddle breed have natural 5 or watever
shit and at the age of 12.OMGyou treat these horses like money makers.tail extentions iv see a horse step on them at a saddlebred show and the rider whipped her horse continuously cuz of it .ok yes i agree this lokks so beautiful no one can lie about that but to see a horse tortured to make this fake unnatural beauty show is just sad to the heart.i saw a horse with the most scariest case of sway back i have ever seen and she said o thats just because he is old. the lady left and we came back
feet higher.what do you get out of this slow torture to horses.o and their tails arnt gorgeous and flashy enough for you , you have to go and f"ng break them.i want to cry every tim i see a saddlbred or twh that have put in the hands of this horrible hobby ,for what to give entertainment if you want horse entertainment go to a jumping show or just a regular eventing show.iv seen cases when horses cant even run free in the field after retiarment because there hocks are to fucked up from this
do you feel so proud.you fucking sick fuckers.totaly horse abuse.so torturous to these beautiful creaters. there natural beauty isnt good enough to you.you have to put chains on there feet.hot sause up there asses. you wonder why they have sway back at the age of fricken 10+you dissgaust me.i cant believe the most horrible thing i just found out that you people actually hurt your horses on purpose:soreing: you actualy purposly cut your horses feet so there in so much pain that they lift their
I agree that when this mare walks, she moves her back feet in a very funny way, almost as if she's hurting. But, that's the way Saddlebreds are supposed to move. When they trot, they're to pick their feet up high. It makes them look very flashy. And the tail is cut - not too bad - to make it stand higher like that.
Saddlebreds are bueatiful but the way the put there feet almost looks like they have these shows on and like there not knowing what to do with them!! lol godd video!!
Every time I see a Saddlebred I think they are Barbie dolls of the horse world.... totally over the top; extreme; a caricature; way too much. I can't get into the aesthetic at all.
I think it looks... Very cluched or if the horse have some problems moving with free motions.. I know, their being bred like this and so on.. But it doesn't look nice for the horse. Can somebody tell me if I'm wrong?
Well, obviously they are born knowing how TO stand like that, because they pee. :p And they are born with naturally high stepping gaits and that high head seat. Just watch a foal out trotting in the field. Its too cute.
why is its feet sooooo long at th front and what the hell has happens to her fetlocks? looks like rope burns or something. she also looks like she has string hault in her back right leg (black one)

This is a disgusting and cruel mistreatment of a horse.
A huge fat man bouncing on the tail end of the saddle is just dreadful.
The horse looks 'forced', there is nothing nice about a forced action. The off hind does not match the near hind in all actions. shameful.

Appaloosakisses 1 year ago
Oh yeah because chaining a horses feet together is oh so natural. I jump my horses but i never restrict their NATURAL movement in any way what so ever.
Don't gt me wrong, that is a stunning horse, but deliberately deforming your horse is just wrong, a lot like those idiots on TWH's. Plus when you sit that far back you are gonna be on their kidneys!
neilsbitch666 1 year ago
@neilsbitch666
Apollopaloozarocks 1 year ago
@neilsbitch666 You do realize by jumping your horse you are destroying it's body? Horses were not originaly built to jump constantly and so hips and knees are going out slowly on your horse, horible injuries can come from jumpping horses and honestly if anyone is abusive it's you people and your forcing these animals to do something they arn't meant to. I see my ASB picking their feet up like this naturaly when running around free...NEVER do I see them naturaly wanting to jump over anything.
DarkAngelAzreil 11 months ago
@DarkAngelAzreil Your A dumbass. Im sorry really. horses do naturally jump, my horse naturally jumps fences, (free jumping) my horse also jumped over the fence to get intohis paddock. I also own a Saddlebred, and she naturally picks her feet up like this.
vivienleigh1097 10 months ago
@neilsbitch666 I have never seen a Saddlebred's feet chained together... ever. I see absolutely no deformity here. I was with her this morning, actually, and I can assure you she's perfectly fine. As for sitting far back... We place our saddles no differently than everyone else. That's why you two-point when they urinate. Feel free to point out any sort or "deformity," but I'll be here to tell you that there's nothing wrong with her. Like I said, I see her every week.
geekyXkrusnik 10 months ago
Looks a little off in the back...the right hind is coming up alot comparatively to the back left at the walk. Or does she naturally favor one over the other. Looks like an heavy weighted shoe job. Beautiful mare though.

charmis7 1 year ago
@charmis7 umm...saddle seat saddles are made to be far back like that. So you kind of need to sit that way. Its made to allow the horse to have free movement of its front end to lift from the shoulder freely.

throwing their legs up high because of the chains above their hooves and acids on their legs is soo damn cute! beeing pulled in their mouth so hard with such a heavy bridle.. wtf?
you can see that horse is stressed!
uniekepaperclip 1 year ago
@uniekepaperclip As with all styles of riding, there will always be stables that use inhumane methods. I personally know this horse, and can tell you that no acid has been used on her legs. As for chains. Yes. We use chains, but we never, EVER sore our horses. Pulling on the mouth? Not with a Saddlebred. They naturally set their heads there. Molly O' Donnel is a very happy, sweet horse. Do not judge on the style of riding. It's like saying all jumpers use electricity to force higher jumps.
geekyXkrusnik 1 year ago 24
@geekyXkrusnik well said!
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@uniekepaperclip you obviously dont know what stress is. stress /can/ be making your horse jump 6 feet in the air with 120+ pounds on its back, yet it is an olympic sport much more popular than saddleseat. what you dont realize is saddlebreds move like this naturally (there are videos of young, untouched-by-human ones on here doing the exact same thing) and if you cant get that through your head i believe there is really no hope for ignorant people like you!

Darreliloveyouso 1 year ago
Thats not natural. The horse is set in a frame..her head is up and her back is hollow unlike in Dressage where the horse isn't just in a frame but actually using its hindquarters so it is light on the forehand. No offense to saddleseat but I don't think its right. And I do have horses so I would appreciate it if people wouldn't complain to me about how I don't know what I'm talking about and blah blah blah. Just stating my opinion
edlovehorses 1 year ago
@edlovehorses maybe its normal to what youre used to, but those horses are BRED for that conformation. thats why you dont see QHs or paints doing saddleseat. like i said earlier, 'just because its different doesnt mean its wrong!' if you see a young, untrained, shoeless saddlebred in pasture, you will notice they are doing the same thing--feet/head up. also, the tack (cutback saddle) gives them free-er motion in their shoulders, thus generating what you think is a hollow back (it is really not).
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@edlovehorses if you dont believe me on my last comment, look this up: 'Phi Chi, American Saddlebred mare for sale $8500' on here, (it may not look natural to you, but its natural of a horse of that build) and, how can dressage look any more natural than saddleseat? do you see warmbloods or hanos doing pirouettes or half passes in pasture when no one is around? i have nothing against dressage (trust me, i do eventing occasionally along with saddleseat and reining and love them all) just saying.
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@SaddlebredAddict In response to your comment on Dressage. Dressage actually uses the natural actions of the horse although they aren't aren't as exagerated as they are under saddle, they are still natural movements. Ever seen a horse side step away from something? Same basic principle as the half pass. Like I said, though, every style of riding is different. Every rider has their own views (some right, some wrong). Leave it at this: If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all.
geekyXkrusnik 1 year ago
@geekyXkrusnik i apologize for that. just trying to make a point that saddleseat isnt more 'unnatural' than dressage (not saying its unnatural!). like you said, "dressage accually used the natural actions of the horse" just the same with saddleseat. saddlebreds would, like arabs, naturally step and carry their heads high. we just accentuate it. sorry if i offended anyone. like i said in an earlier post "i also do dressage along with reining and saddleseat" i wouldnt want to bash my own sports!
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@geekyXkrusnik also, in your comment about "if you cant say anything nice... etc" i really think that advice would be better directed to the saddlebred haters out there bashing this beautiful creature.
and to all those people, like ive been saying over and over "just because its different doesnt mean it is wrong!!" try it (riding a good show horse) before you ridicule it! and if youre too stubborn to, then leave us alone and mind your own darn business!
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago

SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@Azurarose i only said it was the oldest in america, not in the world. i know TBs and arabs are waaaay older! i didnt mean to offend you (you seem like you have an open enough mind, thanks for not bashing the ASB just because its different! other people should follow your example.)
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
I for one am not sure what I think. I'm not a fan of how they're set up (As someone who was raised around TB, it doesn't look right), and I'm really not big on that exaggerated, high stepping movement (Not big on the top dressage either for the same reason). But hey, each to their own. As I mentioned before, I'm a TB girl. She's a pretty enough horse, I'll give her that.
Azurarose 1 year ago
this creature is truly beautiful, and if some of you ignorant people who have apparently been living under a rock the past 3 centuries (as long as saddlebreds have been around, yes, even longer than your /precious/ QHs) cant see that tan i feel really, really sorry for you. you just need to quit ridiculing others and get a friggin life! most of us dont abuse our horses, and if you cant grasp that, than you really need to work that out elsewhere. this ignorance just infuriates me to no end.
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
@SaddlebredAddict You know, I'm 95% sure that QH may be just as old, if not older. And if they aren't, I know for a fact that my precious Thoroughbred are much older, not to mention the arabians.
Azurarose 1 year ago
about the chains, they only are there to jingle and make the horse feel like he is stepping out of something so he lifts his legs higher that what you all are probably used to. the only way the chains would cause pain is if the horse is 'sored' (had illegal, harmful chemicals applied) first. this 'soreing' practice is sometimes seen in big lick walkers and not usually in saddlers. this is because it usually has the opposite effect on saddlers due to their different build and coformation.
SaddlebredAddict 1 year ago
ignorant people... first of all, you got your saddlebreds and big-lick TWHs confused. the chains DO NOT make the horses feet hurt, and i know that for a fact (i actually wore them around my wrists between putting them on/off the horses and they caused no pain whatsoever)...

if the action is natural, the horse shouldn't need 'bracelets' or 'rattles' to force higher action. she is beautiful. Hope her tail wasn't broken. My TWH carries his tail like that whenever he's trotting or cantering out in pasture. He's just exhuberant! Doesn't mounting when they're 'parked out' like that strain their back?
smb08 1 year ago
Do they wear rattlers and use ginger under the tails ? I was turned off these horses by some of the practises.
yeahbyme 1 year ago
@yeahbyme Not all saddlebred trainers use ginger. In fact in the rule book it says that pleasure horses are not allowed to be gingered. What are rattlers? I have never heard of them, or I might just call it by a different name
Rack1On 1 year ago
@Rack1On Rattlers are what they called those fetlock braceletsthe horse enough Ginger burns and stings, so they hold thier tails up. Usually the tails have been broken, and false tails worn.
yeahbyme 1 year ago
@yeahbyme the tail is not broken, and yes the use false tails calld "switchs" or something like that i cant remeber
saddlebredhorsegirl 1 year ago
@saddlebredhorsegirl I think tails are often broken, or cut. The rattlers are chains and make the pasterns very sore. I believe these practises shou;ld be banned, and I find the exaggerated gaits ugly, especially knowing how that elevation is achieved.

@animalLuverify... sometimes there are custom made saddles so they don't need one. :) Hope that helped!

this mare is not a gaited horse she is shown in Show Pleasure - and Molly is one of the sweetest mares - The girl who owns/shows her Ashley - is one of my good friends and she and this mare get along great. so If you have any other questions or nasty comments i suggest you just think before your speak..
mackenzieerae 2 years ago
Why do people trim gaited horses feet to look like that? That's not the natural shape of ANY horses hoof! And do they put chains around their hooves to make them step higher? That doesn't seem nice to me.
albicat13 2 years ago 2
Those shapes aren't there hooves.. there weight pads to help them step higher, there like hand weights to humans, its to strengthen there legs. and the chains aren't connected to there hooves there put around there ankles again for weight purposes... it doesn't hurt the horse.
horselvr2291 2 years ago
Thanks for the info. To me, this horse looks very tense, and nothing in her movements tells me that she's truly happy or relaxed. The unnatural movements of her legs look very fake and uncomfortable for her, and making her stand "camped out" puts a TREMENDOUS amount of stress on her back. Her eyes are alert, but not happy alert. Her back seems really stiff with this guy on her, like she's stilted and unable to move in the way her body naturally dictates. To me, this looks almost mean.
albicat13 2 years ago
Standing camped out puts stress on her back? You will have to tell that to my horse cause he does it all the time...on his own in the pasture and with a rider on his back.
Calicat1994 2 years ago
@Calicat1994 Are you sure your horse isn't foundering or terribly sore from having ridiculous weights around it's feet?
albicat13 2 years ago
Excuse me, my horse is completely sound, he is a barefoot trail horse who has never been lame in his 16 years and has NEVER used weighted shoes. Maybe you should ask before you assume the worst of other people. As I said my horse will stand "camped" out of his own free will. What makes you such an expert on other peoples horses anyway. Have you ever worked with a bred that is shown camped out. Or are you just another uneducated person spount propagana?
Calicat1994 2 years ago
@Calicat1994 ok, here's the deal. Yeah, my last comment was a little rude, it was meant to be. This fight will NEVER end because as humans we both agree to disagree on what we think is "right" for our horses. Yes, I've ridden horses that have been trained to camp out, and yes, I think it's bad for their backs. You don't. That's fine. It's your horse, your responsibility. I choose not to do that to my horse, nor any horse I ride because I don't think it's right.
albicat13 2 years ago
Actually, my first comment was supposed to be humorous, becouse in some cases, I actually agree that standing camped puts stress on a horses back. but I have owned my horse since he was a weanling and I did say that he did it on his own...if it strains his back, that doesn't stop him doing without prompting. That is why I don't think it strains every horses back to stand that way. Why would he intentionally hurt himself when he didn't have to?
Calicat1994 2 years ago
Also, I ride my horse almost always bareback, barefoot, and most of the time in a tom thumb bit, with loose reins. Maybe your approach to expressing your opinion should change, as getting rude is immature and childish and makes you come across like someone who couldn't care less about the issue and just wants afight.
Calicat1994 2 years ago
@Calicat1994 I would suggest the same thing to you as you commented on my comment first.

I agree that when this mare walks, she moves her back feet in a very funny way, almost as if she's hurting. But, that's the way Saddlebreds are supposed to move. It's called "parking out" and is (I was told) to hide faults.

Well, obviously they are born knowing how TO stand like that, because they pee. :p And they are born with naturally high stepping gaits and that high head seat. Just watch a foal out trotting in the field. Its too cute.
