love babs, she has a perfect voice, these singers that have 2 shout 2 get there notes are so annoying, witney pooston, drives me nuts, and she did the worst thing ever and shouted but iiiiiiiiiiiiiii will always luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv , youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu,i turn the radio off if she comes on,dolly parton is the best
Fabulous rendition. A real professional, and true to the original song. Most other versions use very different [and in my view, incorrect] phrasing. A completely different song. Thanks, Barbara. Compare versions of "I will always love you" by Dolly and Whitney. Dolly's is a completely different [and in my view, better] song.
oh my life i cant believe i just wrote my opinion regarding dolly and whitney, and then i saw your comment, are you like me i wonder, i get so cross when someone does a cover of a song that only you thought you knew, whitney poosten gets turned off my radio whatever she sings
I think its very good for an acapella rendition that was probably spur of the moment. I think she`s only rushing it because there`s no accompaniment to fill silent pauses.
It`s different and I like it but my favourite version is by Marcia Griffiths :o)
I love her voice and also the song, but I think she rushes it just a bit. Compare this to Janis Ian singing Jounny I Harly Knew Ye and you'll see what I mean.
MacColl. (Originally Miller) Yes, for Peggy Seeger. Gordon Lightfoot does the definitive version, the pace and phrasing spot on. One can only be jealous of a writer who could pen such a thing for his lady.

Originally, Lance Sandberg wrote this for his lead singer--who fell for another. When he reached dire financial straights MCA bought the song, songwriting credits and royalties for $25 from then Mr. Sandberg. Sadly Dr. Lance "Sandy" Sandberg, PhD has never played it publicly, never seen a dime, nor had his name mentioned. Perhaps it time to let the Master himself play it, for all of us. Dr Sandberg teaches at St. Phillip College in San Antonio Texas.
When did wee Sandy write this? What was the name of his band and the lead singer? What folk influences led him to write in such a typically Celtic ballad form at the age of 14? (MacColl, never having claimed authorship for something he hadn't written - shows a natural influence in his 1957 song from Child's ballad collection which he researched and wrote on). Provide your evidence - or better still get Sandberg to provide it. As an academic he should be more than capable.
Nope you're still wrong no matter how many times you write this... dunno where you got your information. Ewan MacColl wrote this song for Peggy Seeger in 1957 and it's been covered and seemingly endless amount of times.
Go for it! I've asked this individual for proof and, surprise surprise, none forthcoming! The format and structure is typically Celtic - specifically in a style influenced by Child - a collector whose work was researched and written about by MacColl. The work of a 14 year-old fantasist? Pure fantasy!
that was amazing.wow.................alex

I think of Kirsty MacCall when I hear this now. Didn't her father write this song?
Barbara's contribution to the Chess original sound recording was brief but memorable.
