  • The dude was punched by a fly at 1:22!! XD

  • In Europe we don't build houses out of wood.

  • The narrator sounds as if he's on the toilet, trying to give birth to that one last pesky piece of shit.

  • 1:23 ...BUGGGGGG! >_<

  • PFFFT wood doesn't have the power to put roofs over our heads... STONE has that fucking power, wooden house's are a joke, you see a tornado coming and your in a wooden house? Your fucked. If your in a house made of stone like in Europe, there's a goooood chance the Tornado won't do shit.

  • Why does the voice over sound like he's orgasming whilst saying every other word?

  • Bug rape @ 1:22

  • 1:23 bug pwned in the forehead

  • Wood Appeal ahah though it was like sex appeal but for the tree :D

  • Since when do we plant more trees than we cut down. Every day thousands of acres of forest are cleared around the world.... Wood is strong, but define how exactly it's stronger than steel....... propaganda much?

  • @GREENVK I suppose you bought the environmental whacko bullshit.

  • @Trashfished At least wacko doesn't mean stupid... You idiot, the environmental condition caused by cutting of trees and other stuff, isn't bullshit, its a hard fact proven by the worlds scientists; entire countries, organizations and governments are working to solve it and educate assholes like you on situation and recycling.

By the way, if you don't live a Green Designed life, because you are dumb and you think its all bullshit, do it for your own pocket, Its economical...

  • @emLevit I ssuppose you think "cap and trade" is a good thing!!

  • @Trashfished well its one way of solving the problem... not the best though, because I don't think it will help...

Companies who adopt the "Green Trend" save more money for turning all the pollution into resources that can be useful for someone else (and sell it, obviously). The problem is inside the heads of square people who cannot conceive progress. Sometimes we have to learn do things a little differently, you need to get around your head that things can't stay as they are!

  • @emLevit you sir are a brainwashed idiot.

  • @GREENVK You took the words out of my mouth about the planting more than cutting, But manufacture of steel isn't "Greener" than cutting trees, It takes more energy and creates more pollution to make.

  • lol americans make there houses out of wood but the rest of the word are made out of stone:v

  • stupid

  • @dubledz You described yourself perfectly, lowly taught that is.

  • what? how is wood stronger than steel?

  • @cmonutube Stronger is a vague term, in this instance it is likely that the text was referring to a weight to weight ratio; given such conditions its fairly obvious that wood, would be 'stronger' than steel. Other than that, no, not really, no.

  • @GodofCider More specificallly its how resistant wood is to buckling that makes it so good. its a root(E)/density where E is young's modulas as opposed to E/density which is important for tensile strength

  • @pyrofffff Hehe, sadly enough, I had dumbed down my response so as to keep it as simple as possible. Perhaps it was not the wisest choice, as you're illustration, at least in my eyes, is considerably more thorough...but, I couldn't know whom my audience was. Ah well, what's done is done. Thank you for the refinement though; always appreciated.

  • Pile of jiggly stuff. TeeHeeHee...

  • 1:22 - a fly lands on the guy's head

  • Comment removed

  • this guy speaks like he's a superhero

  • fire deaths are highest in wood buildings.

  • wood is stronger than steel but it decays faster than steel thats why wood is not preferred in huge building structures

  • @subhanleo I dont think id be able to put a wooden nail through a steel block

  • This clip doesn't say why wood is stronger than steel. Besides if it were stronger than steel, why aren't sky scrapers made of it?

  • WOOD IS STRONGER THAN STEEL. WHAT!?

  • I love the narrator's voice

  • Haha, he ends every centence the same.. like everything is amazing. (that's his work)

  • In the USA, the first law on hemp was everyone must grow it.... Cause it had so much use, even in medicine. Then they made it illegal.

  • hemp is not illeagle its cousin mary jane is

you cannot get high off of hemp

  • Industrialized hemp is. There for you can't really start a company that makes hemp paper. Even though it solves the issue with clear cutting forests and hemp grows anywhere and 3x faster then trees

  • So, if the trees are using up the CO2 that we breathe out, then why is the government declaring it a pollutant.

  • But the amount expelled from volcanoes and from other natural means makes our contribution a mere drop in the bucket. Or even the contribution of those like Al Gore who hypocritically jet-set around for the cause.

  • Hemp grows faster then wood, and is stronger and fire resistant when compressed into building material.

    Wood has nothing on hemp.

Hemp doesn't get you high, but yet it's illegal.

  • What is everyone's fear of utilizing it then? I wonder if other countries are.

  • hey did anyone see that bug that flied on him at 1:23?

  • LOL!!!

  • Sure the announcer is trying too hard, and these clips are too short, but consider this point. Does anybody over the age of three need an explanation of how wood is useful? Even the biology is grade school stuff.

  • Hey, the narrator is using his 1970's, smoked-up, FM radio, DJ's voice. Can't you hear him saying " Yeah man, and here is another cool track from Led Zepplin, Stairway to Heaven"?

  • narrators voice is ughhh

  • Interesting, but why the spastic switching of video clips? Are we all short attention spanners now?

    Relax and enjoy the world,

  • the narrator sounds like a real douche

  • this video just makes you love trees

  • lol "demand for wood"

  • He sounds like Solid Snake.

  • And the Most Annoying Narrator Ever Anywhere Award goes to...

  • wow where did they get their info, the trees in BC are way bigger.

  • oh really? why should we believe you? you don't even know what they're called

  • look it up?

  • is that a question? or a suggestion. you are a fool

  • General Sherman is the name of a Giant Sequoia with a height of 275 feet (83.8 metres). As of 2002, the volume of its trunk measured about 1487 cubic meters, making it the largest non-clonal tree by volume.[1] The tree is located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in the United States, east of Visalia, California. The tree is believed to be between 2,300 and 2,700 years old.

Looked it up, and you're wrong. Sry u fail

  • I LOVE the way he EMPHASISES random words to make it sound EXCITING!

  • WOOD!!

  • seriously, scrap the commentator. i've heard him before. but this time its to much to handle. mabe he should try getting a job in Movie trailer buissness? oh, thats right. they stopped using that voice in 1993

  • Why(uh) is(uh) he(uh) always(uh) saying(uh) after(uh) each(uh) sentence(uh)?

  • uh.... i dont know..

  • who uh is uh saying uh ?

  • The (uh) Commentator (uh) ;D

  • exactly!

  • I love trees. Wish i was a tree scientist :(

  • A botanist? I think that's a plant specialist, just like a zoologist specializes in animals.

  • Hmmm...

I'm looking at an engineering table that lists the tensile strength of various materials.

    High tensile steel 225,000 psi

    Mild steel 60,000 psi

Spruce, with the grain 15,000 psi

    across the grain 500 psi

Thats the pounds of force needed to tear a one square inch cross section test-piece in half.

So, if wood is stronger than steel, why are the nails made of steel?

  • hahaha thats a good point. but i think they are refering to wood being stronger in terms of its mass or something.

personally i think comaprison of the 2 materials is dumb cause wood is porous and stuff

  • Yes.. I think wood is actually stiffer than steel per unit of mass.

Maybe even stronger than steel weight for weight.

I guess my comparison is only one way of looking at it: for the same volume of material, steel vastly exceeds wood for strength.

  • I believe the key word in what they said was "raw" material.

You don't need to refine or manufacture wood like steel. Sounds like they are trying to compare wood with iron ore.

But then wouldn't stone be stronger then wood?

  • Yea i think your right cuz they always say some type of spider silk is like 4 times stronger than steel by mass n since this and wood are organic materials their right. Also kevlar ( bulletproof material), is an organic polymer but depends on you define strong.

  • i dont think wood is stronger than steel good point agentjayz

  • of course it is!

  • the guy is hard to listen to for a hour

  • I do wish Discovery would load these things over several days and not dump them on us all at once. Its almost enough to make me want to cancel my subscription.

  • Trees might not feel pain, but they are living. So it's really like making a house out of human bones, except clearly not at least according to the police... damnit.

  • "The world plants more trees-ah, than it chops down-ah."

Why does he talk like that? So annoying.

  • lol Bug FTW at 1:24

  • he sounds like snake.he has a hoa at the end of almost every sentence.

    woodha

  • He is trying to make it sound epic, just like the guy that does the movie previews.

  • "He is trying to make it sound epic"

HAHAHA love ur comment. Its so true!!

  • Big Tree

  • you agian?

  • yep

  • looks like we have no life watching theses videos all day =PP

  • hey i have a life!!!!
