  • Mel smith and Griff rhys Jones, legends.I miss them badly.

  • 'I was in the thick of it'

'What were you, mod or a rocker'

'Neither, I was the deck chair attendant.'

    classic stuff

  • Odod a sa daed sa si yentraccm luap........Odod a sa daed sa si yentraccm luap........

The next bit had me in stitches XD!!

  • Is this a mockumentary of the rutles, how clever

  • what's the name of that one 30min bit where they are on a boat together? Im dying to see it again.

  • @250Trojan

    We like birds, we're ornithologists...

  • I like him on THE PRINCESS BRIDE.

  • morcambe and wise are overated and quite frankly a bit crap. smith and jones shit's all over thier corpses.

  • Quixote and his acrobats

And clowns and several other prats

    Are here tonight

Before we turn him into glue

The horse will dance a waltz or two by Johann Strauss

The evening looks extreme dull so I will spend it out of me skull

    at George's house

  • Washed up? He has directed films and writes and performs for TV.

  • does anyone have their version of purple haze it was so so funny

  • It`s interesting that you talk about Derek and Clive, I`ve been looking for the track on Ad- neauseum where they swear and Dud gets carried away and says radiator. I do not want to say all the things that I have just...............said.

  • @birdie399 That sketch is called 'The Critics'

  • Another thought, does anyone have the scene in the taverna where they sing as a duo- and lots of retsina- he`s heading straight back to the bog if he drinks that retsina, it been diluted with industrial cleaner.......

  • These guys are really funny. Reminds me of Pete and Dud.

Does anyone know where the sketch of Whatever it is I Spit on It.

  • That is an excellent Lennon impression.

  • Lennon would loved that Beatles sketch.

  • I loved their head to head stuff. Very Pete and Dud but they made it their own.

  • hehe

  • What song at 6:00 ?? please and thank you.

  • It's a parody of the song "Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite", which really was based on a circus poster Johb Lennon had seen.

  • D...R...U...G...S....can't stop laughing...I'm sure everyone in the house thinks I'm mad...thanks!

  • Why isn't this stuff on DVD. Come on...everything else is, why isn't this??

  • I really agree with you. The show "Alas Smith & Jones" was one of my favourites in the late 80`s...or was it in the early

    90`s?

  • @cibrumby A complete box-set [EVERY programme] of Alas Smith And Jones and Smith And Jones would be brilliant. I've no idea why this is so difficult to make happen. All we have at present is a 'Best Of' DVD compilation.

  • @thesilvermachine I think it's because they (Smith and Jones) sold TalkBack Productions and the rights to the show along with it. Might be wrong but that's my understanding

  • Gawd Bless 'em !!

  • amazing, simply amazing!! cant stop laughing..

  • Brilliant mixture of comedy genius and Beatles influenced intelligence. Fab!!

  • i absolutly love the beatles but i have to say this is as funny as out lol griff is amazingly good looking here and funny as n mel smith funny as ever. I agree with everyone's brill comments about everything lol xxxxxxx

  • awesome, well written, witty comedy, 80s forever! :)

  • when is this from?

  • My best guess is mid-to-late '80's. Bloody wonderful time for British comedy!

  • Probably 87 becuase of the Beatles sketch afterwards.

The TV was filled with Sgt Pepper stuff all year

  • That was just hilarious, I loved it !!

  • "I was one of the beautiful people"

The subsequent silence and the look in his face are just one of the best comic things i've ever seen.

  • do you have a clip of the film they were in.

i think its called wilt. i loved it as a kid

but cant find it on here.

  • I love british accent.

  • @XmiEhX Which one?

  • @XmiEhX That's a London accent. Britain has many, many accents, including the different parts of Scotland and Wales and the many different English accents, e.g. the Liverpool accent, which was made famous by the Beatles, and the South coast accents, which is where Americans got their twangy accents from.

  • @XmiEhX Which one? there are hundreds

  • I wish i had a british accent

  • So does mememolly.

  • yeah me too..i think if i had three wishes, i would use one them on perfect english with a british accent^_^

  • Same!!!

  • Brilliant memories.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Wow, Stephen Colbert looks a bit like Griff!

  • ah, I remember seeing that beatles sketch when I was a little-un in the 80s and loving it :-)

  • Quality sketch, always loved it! Paul McCartney is as dead as a dodo.....Paul McCartney is as dead as a dodo...... LOL!!!

  • lmao!!!! i love griff rhys-jones :P

he's always got a slight smile on his face

  • i think that the grave sketch is one of the funniest things i've ever seen in my life. Everytime you think it can't make you laugh MORE, it does.

  • Oh... What a trip down memory lane... I used to love all their stuff from "Not the Nine O'Clock News" to "Alas! Smith and Jones".

The Beatles clip was hilarious - They captured the sound and style well.

  • yup still alive,Griff is 53, and Mel 54 I think

  • What are these guys doing today? Still alive?

  • Mel Smith is a film director, Griff Rhys Jones does various writing and TV stuff. Mel directed the first Mr Bean movie for example.

  • Smith & Jones was a bloody brilliant show! These sketches never get old. Love it! Thank you so much for this!

  • I Love them...they're so funny...especially Mel!

  • These 2 are without a doubt the 2nd best double act in british comedy history EVER...

& I haven't seen this one so thanks!!!

  • The 1st best being French and saunders? or have I forgotten someone? :D

  • Call me old fashioned, but I've got to say Morcambe & Wise.

  • Morcambe and Wise have nothing on Smith and Jones.

I'd go as far as saying, I don't even know why they got to be famous, they weren't even very good!

  • How 'bout Fry and Laurie?

  • Gotta love 'em (Love QI & House MD), but they don't appeal on such a Universal level as M&W.

When I was 6 I understood most of M&W, but only as a 22 year old am I begining to get F&L, plus M&W still appeal at this age.

  • THANKS FOR ADDING THIS ONE, man I could freaking watch these guys for hours. They are/were SO funny. Brilliant, as the Brits would say.

  • I search for a Smith & Jones sketch within they sit in front of the camera (thea are watching the TV set) and ate everithing there (first the popcorn and then flowers, tie ect.) because it is preoccupy them in 100%. After all (when the show is off in the tv-set) they back out and say: "It vas very boring".

Would you send me this clip?

    Gza

  • hehehehehe lol!

  • Haha that was pretty good. "Paul McCartney is as dead as a dodo" :D

  • Mel and Griff were brilliant along with Pam and of cause Rowan Atkinson. I was a Malaysian Chinese studying in London during the late 70s and never miss a show of "Not the 9'Oclock News". They sure don't make comedies like they use to. Brought back fond memories. Thanks for making my day. Hope you can post more Mel & Griff. Cheers mate!

  • Thank you so much for putting this on. It was from 1987, and was a welcome antidote to the eulogies celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sergeant Pepper. The Pepper spoof left me in agony, as I laughed so hard at the DRUGS song. Kudos too to the great Fluff Freeman for playing his part in this lampoon.

  • Never saw this one before, excellent!
