  • the engl cabinet with the V30's sound amazing, when I finish to test my brand of amps, i'll show you to have your opinion. Greetings!

  • Hey there. You probably already decided on a mic haha but I think the Beyer and the TSM sounded great. The shure m57 already picks up loads of highs and the fact that there's v30's in that ENGL cab it's just too trebly (Or spiky!) sounding.

  • u mad! u stole from turbid north :D :D :D

  • ALL THREE

  • Is the Beyer Opus 87 a drum mic?

  • i think a neumann km184 would beat the shit out of those mics, but it's waaaaaay too expensive :(

  • hi,,, in your opinion what is the best micro

  • Wow, the mic really makes a difference in the sound. I like the MT184 best myself.

  • I like the first 2 sound ;) the third one [SM57], bad position maybe, sounds like shit/garbage.

  • @StalinStudio thats because the sm57 mic IS shit unless your looking just for high end detail then it is THE shit.

  • Noob question=> the Tsm mt184, is that like one of those typical snare mics? Can't find too much info on this one.

  • I think opus 87 is the best to your tuning, becouse it has more mid, and sound is more readable IMHO))

  • wow the 57 sounds shit!

  • Why does the sm57 sound like ass?

  • I think a better test would involve separate tracking, with the mics in one place. The SM57 was badly positioned so it sounded extremely fuzzy and didn't have any mid-low end presence. Still an insightful video though!

  • beyer is best

  • I think the first one is the best, the second lacks a bit of presence and the last one has to much "scratch" in it

  • why did you change cabinets for the SM57 ? ...

  • What gauge strings to you use when you're 2 steps down on your 25.5" guitars?

I'm setting my Jackson up in C standard, and I'm thinking 12-56.

  • @adil2552 12-60 on my C standard with drop Bb

  • @adil2552 12-60 on my C tuned guitars with drop Bb

  • @adil2552 dude I was in the same situation as you, I wanted to set my Jackson ke2 in C standard, and I've put 13-62 strings on it, it's big but it is just enough stiff.

  • @adil2552 Fuck yea, C standard = The best tuning, I have a 10's set on the G,B and E strings then the E, A and D strings r from a daddario set with the Low E being a 56 and it plays great, the Bb sounds good too.

  • DAR FTW

  • Hi, ¿is a stereo recording? how you do make it to sound in both channels? grettings

  • yo ola

whats the point of buying a tube amp these days if so many people including you claim the axe fx can imitate and tube amp on this planet?

  • @pR1sooeem they can surely imitate an amp, but it is still not totally there. I use Axe Fx live merely for convenience. But that is about to change soon.

  • @fearedse Does that mean you are getting a severely bad ass DAR amp?

  • @fearedse Either you are replacing the axe live with a tube amp, or you are replacing your tube amps with the Axe II. Considering your recent endorsements I'll go with option A.

  • @fearedse Axe Fx II? :D

  • @fearedse Hey Ola, in all your earlier videos, you used SM57. So after this, are you planning to change from SM57 to Opus? OR In your next amp reviews, will you use combination of these mics? If yes, will you place them in the same position(record one by one and then mix it) or different positions? Actually buying a mic and need suggestions :D. And one thing, I seriously cannot get Forever Old out from my head! ABSOLUTELY DIGGING IT! Expecting more songs like this. Keep them coming! \m/

  • @fearedse ehhhh think misha proved the axe fx II is totally there

  • @decapitatedrathead well I need to try a axe 2 before I can judge that myself. This guy asked about the axe fx 1...

  • @fearedse yea i know. but i was also gonna ask if you could try to get your hands on an axe fx II and test it. if you could man that would be amazing. and by the way this video perplexed me a bit. the sm57 sounds like crap, but your tone was so good in the video. can you please enlighten me ?

  • sounds sick when mixed bro!

  • I listened to this video on headphones, and there is a distinct separation going on ear to ear. What stereo effect has been added, or are you providing us with multi-tracked raw guitar? Thanks.

  • are you using any reverb? i know you siad there is no processing but i think i could here a little on the 57

  • @ModernProductionss no these are totally dry tracks.

  • @fearedse According to my ears, It seems that tracks have been doubled and panned here. Whatever. I really enjoyed the TSM sound, and was surprised by the opus 87 in this situation (Most known for drums recordings).

  • @TheLimiter yeah this is the stero track taken from the other videos. If you want mono, listen to headphones and only listen to one of them :D

  • the beyer I think was best. it has a more gnarly growl to it and I think sounds more natural.

  • Crunchy

  • wow those are really different from each other! would they be much different if you had placed them all in the same spot or not too much?

  • The TSM had a ballsy sound the SM lacked... I loved it.

  • I like I like the Opus 87 the best.

  • The TSM and Marshall sounded like something from...And Justice For All.

  • they all have their own unique qualities, I'd say mix them together and focus on their strong points

  • @MrAndrewHensley exactly and that's what we did for the videos. We deliberately put the SM57 straight into the cone of the Engl cab to get a brighter sound to match up with the other microphones. It is not badly positioned. You can even through on a low pass filter on it and you'll get just as good sound as I'm getting on every other amp video.

  • the opus 87 is awesome

  • I like all 3 mics.

  • Is it an Opus 81 or 87? The 87 is a clip on drum mic. Can't see it clearly in the video.

  • @Cauldronics Its the 87 drum mic and it sounds sweet.

  • The sm57 was used with a different cab..?

  • That Opus sounded pretty great by itself.

  • SM57 is fine. Combined they sound amazing. Apart they don't. That's the point. Get the highs in one, mid in another and lows in the other. They are all positioned fine.

  • @themilkinator33 this guy got it!

  • He used a different cab for the 57.... doesn't seem totally fair to me

  • the 57 sounds like nuts

  • meh, ive never liked a 57 on v30s anyways. the 57 has a bump in it's frequency response and the v30 has always been too crispy. that beyer sounded fantastic though

  • how do you get from those kinda crappy raw mic tones to a sickass tone like in all ur other vids?

  • @sk8monster112 By blending different mics and having 2 or 4 layers of the same track with different EQ settings

  • did you make some tracks with the big ribbon mic? that would be interesting! cheers!

  • Sounds like you' ve recorded the SM57 with Roland Cube lol

  • Why the 57 sounds that bad and the OPUS that good?

  • Where can you buy the TSM MT184? I searched online and found nothing...

  • Just bought your album, fucking awsome.

  • the sm57 was badly positioned

  • @Hellraiserzzz Maybe he wanted that sound from it, but the sm57 alone sounds terrible, never know...

  • @Hellraiserzzz I agree the SM57 doesn't sound great, but if the mics are positioned to compliment each other then they're not necessarily going to sound great on their own.

  • @Hellraiserzzz the sm57 is intended to capture the high, while other is for low and mid.

  • @Hellraiserzzz the sm57 was on a different amp with different speakers. sais the video

  • i go for the TSM holy god amazing sound

  • Everything but the TSM sounded like crap :o

  • 0:38 is that a lamb of god riff?

  • You should add few seconds of camera mic

  • Thanks for showing me that Shure mics are shit!

  • that tone is the tone that causes many woody's online i supose

  • tsm mt184 FTW!

  • Beyer Dynamic Opus87 is for drums, innit?

  • How many more videos is he going to do of this amp..

  • Cant decide between the TSM and the Beyer mic's both acheive really cool sound.

  • Could you by any chance also mentioned how the microphones were placed? The SM57 sounds like it was placed just near the center, but it's hard to tell from the other mics.

  • What were the positions on these mic's?

  • Your right arm looks like a robot arm for some reason xD

  • Why have you changed amps?! makes it incomparable

  • @troeteimarsch They didn't change amps,just cabinets;)..but its still incomparable.

  • @troeteimarsch he only changed the mics he used to record it :)

  • The Opus 87 sounded the best for my ears. Cheers!

  • I know the Peavey Valveking isn't a high end amp like all of the ones you tend to test out, but I recommend recording with one and testing one just to silence the haters. A lot of people think that amp can't do metal, but it really can.

  • For sure the TSM blended with the 57 would be amazing

  • Ola, u seem to rape this amp everyday. Please stop lol

  • for me also the TSM, picks up a lot of that sweet bottom end

  • The Opus87 for sure.

The Sure sm57 sounds too nasal and - like it were from a computer-amp simulator.

The TSM MT184 is not bad either, but I prefer the Opus.

  • Opus87 if you ask me. But I do think the Opus and the Shure would sound together with the opus at three times the volume of the shure.

  • TSM is the best.

  • The 'chug' on the Opus is the best. So I would run both the Shure57 and the Opus87 together to get a sweet tone from an amazing amp.

You are so lucky to be able to mess around with that amp in Meshuggah's studio, of all places!!

Are you going to get one Ola?

  • nice one dude!

  • TSM wins hands down!

  • TSM sounds awesome!

  • tsm was my least favorite, but i think that might have had more to do with the delay between left and right tracks during that ones showing, also the shure had a weird delay too that made the sound of the mic come off weird, but shure is my go to

  • TSM Wins The Match

  • Is there a very small delay b/w the left and right side ?

  • I gotta say, that amp is coming into its own

  • TSM, the shure sounds very airy.

  • the first one was the best

  • I wish every video had a part like this. You actually get to hear the isolated guitar tone this way and get a better idea of the amp. I can't believe the best sounding mic is a beyer made for recording toms. The 57 is always the worst by itself but adds the high end clarity you need when mixed. I may have to get a beyer or a tsm.

  • Thanks for sharing, bro!

  • wow the TSM is killer!

  • TSM MT184 OWNS!!!!

  • Man I'm about to be 21, when i hit 50 i would probably be able to afford all this awesome gear.

  • Opus 87 ftw

  • TSM MT184 For Sure :) AWESOME Sound

  • Am I strange for liking the TSM most?

  • @BrownyCakes1 the beauty of recording is you don't have to pick one mic, you can mix, match, and blend til your heart's content, combine the best characteristics of each

  • @BrownyCakes1

Nah your not, it sounds sexy as fuck.

I think the TSM blended with the SM57 (better positioned) would sound amazing. The body of the TSM would really compliment the attack and cutting mids of the SM57. My opinion though.

  • @I9I9Eternal Yeah you're right. Now, where's the money to buy a mic combo like this? :P

  • @BrownyCakes1 Fuck NO! It really sounded awesome compared to the rest!

  • @BrownyCakes1 Nah, I agree. Of course, they sound best combined though haha

  • @BrownyCakes1 you should lol it costs 900$. ridiculous.

  • Shure "saw" SM57 wins in my opinion ;)

  • It's dramatic how a microphone changes the sound. Damn, you make it difficult to build my own little studio :D

  • that amp sounds amazing me want

  • SM57 cuts more, the sound is more defined, what I liked most hehe
