  • this is reasons why canon lens always expensive... good job...

  • Fusing --> Mixing -->Clarification -->Homogenization

    The process of coming out

  • for those who didnt catch it:

This is how the Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM is made

It is one of their best lenses available.

It costs between $7,000 and $11,000 at retail.

    Watch carefully.

  • DAT GLASS

  • Two things:

    - Were are the Jap girls?

    - Nothing compares to Zeiss.

  • Forged by flame!

  • It sounds like someones taken a RAVE, to a lens factory...

  • One more thing that would be even more a wesome narrated by Morgan Freeman.

  • *In soothing voice*

    Canon 500mm f/4.0L IS USM

    Canon 500mm f/4.0L IS USM

    Canon 500mm f/4.0L IS USM

    Canon 500mm f/4.0L IS USM

  • the liquid glass is is shaped into a shit

  • that glass like weed

  • this makes me want to take better care of my lens...

  • And this, everyone, is why lenses are so expensive!

  • Very informative! I hope to purchase more Canon lens!

  • "allowed to cool naturally" with a 20000KW fan blowing over it.

  • @MustNotRead yes it makes sense.

  • Notice the how the letters and numbers on the electric furnaces at 6:00 are not Japanese...

  • i'd like to see how the 50mm 1.8 is made

  • @principle001 in a sweatshop... somewhere in china, or worse... LOL!

  • A surprising amount of hand finishing is still required, the tradition of old world craftsmanship continues.

  • 4:26.... how???

  • The glass is set upon a hot rod/knife that acts like a glass cutter that breaks the surface tension. It then can be broke apart by just pressing or bending.

  • If I were a japanese i would have worked for canon(i mean in the factory..)!!! soooooooo cooooooooolllllll

  • The lenses are Canon because the lens referred to in the video is 'EF 500mm F4 L IS USM' - EF being a Canon lens mount and USM being a Canon focusing system. :)

L is also Canon's pro range of luxury lenses.

  • The thing is that the workers don't seem like they win more money than the ones working in other low precision factories.. I thought they should win more with all that "hand-made" crap.

  • no wonder they are so extremely expensive

  • agree very hot in there, 0.56 - 1.08 jees hes /shes stirring it with bare hands above the hot stuff.

  • I like how the inspector dude checks the glass for defects through his smeary 3 dollar plastic safety glasses.

  • @ryman1

He's a skilled Japanese worker. He'd be able to sense glass defects even blindfolded, Jedi style.

  • i wanna drink a hot cup of glass.

  • Same

  • THEY MAKE LENSES OUT OF COCAINE??!! I guess that helps the pictures look so sharp-n-snappy..

  • lmao to bad u can snort the lens

  • how many factories for lenses production has canon all around the world ?

  • Must get real hot in that factory.

    Lol

  • I'm sure you're right, John. Why, I bet you could make one for cheaper in your garage.

  • Yeah. I love how many little bits of rocks and crap there are in my fluorite Canon front elements. Looks just like a brick. Maybe I'll see if I can get an adapter, and just USE a brick, although I guess I'll have to use manual focus. But hey, I'll have something like $6999.50 instead of autofocus, and the same optical quality!

For that matter, have you seen the processes used in making CPU dies, some of which go for >$2000 for a little tiny chip? Psh.

  • Post your trash somewhere else

  • Stop degrading youtube.

  • WOW
