Oh by the way, sorry all peaceful listeners of this song that I have contributed to spamming comments here that are quite unrelated to the song. i love it david gilmoure with hair! in any way with or without, dave gilmour is a guitar god!!!!! thankyou dave for the great great music with floyd and solo! your the best! thankyou for all the great memories and music while growing up in the 70's,80,90,2000's,and beyond! my girlfriend loves your music!
The first time I've heard the Gilmour's solo at "Another brick in the wall II" , and later "Young Lust", I was 10 and I decided that I would be a guitar player and maybe, play like him. So I heard an other guitar players while I became older. but never anyone made my mind more than Gilmour's voice and player style. Sorry about my english, I feel more confortable writing in portuguese.
@pedrothrash God bless your soul. When I first heard "Wish You Were Here" I knew I HAD to be a player, and I grew to love many fine guitarists, but none as much as David!
I always loved this song, but I just read the lyrics today and it's amazing how true the lyrics are and how easy they are to relate to. David might be the only rock star to reach "legendary" status but still be so down to earth and humble in his fame.
@hrothgleas Or An I'll Go/Come with my own life, meaning he'll continue despite the odds, something like that. It's an encouraging and hopeful song. One he can't outperform with On an Island, though he commented that that was his best solo material
no way, 2 ass holes missed thumb-up? did the fucking mouse slip or something ? why would you click dislike? were you looking for some coldplay? or katie perry or perhaps some backstreet boys? whats that? oh' your deaf? sorry, now i get it.
@roseaxe100 Same, I opted to record half of it while singing some of the Oh ahhhs that are present on the album, but here Gilmour turns on the JAM! It warrants a modern reworking, the song is so timeless!!
Just about one of the greatest as well melancholic song ever written. The solo at the end is such ace too! It's probably one of my most fav song of ever, and this Live session is just over the top of anything!! Period!
@ride4ride10 lacking his trademark EMGs probably, due to the tech of the time, Gilmour says the Strat came from his idol having them, Hank of Cliff Richard and the Shadows
David Gilmour is the best guitar soloist ever. Fuck the dickhead shredders - Gilmour shows you how a real great guitar solo is played! David Gilmour Forever!
@bluesrockfanatic Gilmour's stuff is great to listen to when you get tired of Roger Waters crying "they took my daddy from me!" and all his anti-corporation, anti-war, anti-fans indictments. Pink Floyd really suffered from his biasness after Syd left.
@TheAmericanOriginal I agree. When it comes to Pink Floyd, I only like the stuff Gilmour did. I never cared much for Roger Waters when I first got into Pink Floyd.
@bluesrockfanatic Cant really agree with you mate. Gilmour is my all time great, but Roger Waters wrote the Wall, and the majority of all the great Floyd works. Without him, no Floyd I'm afraid. He was/is a musical genius in his own right.. Then again, we all have our preferences eh? Take Care Mate.
@mr1168726 Hey, no worries. We have different taste. If you like Roger Waters' work, I have nothing against that. I forgot to mention in my comment that I liked Roger Waters' vocals in Comfortably Numb, even though I was never much into him. But I have nothing against your opinion. I appreciate that you expressed your opinion nicely, and not really rudely like most youtubers. Take Care.
@TheAmericanOriginal You forget that David has built his guitar style and tone between Ummagumma and The Wall, so with Roger, and after all he developed his stuff since Momentary Lapse Of reason. .
@TheAmericanOriginal There are so many bad lyricists out there that have gotten thousands times more respect than they deserve, I just don't understand why people always want to pick on one of the best ones just because his lyrics were personal. Sure Waters took over Pink Floyd and that eventually ruined that line-up but I think it was worth it, I think they would've split up anyway, might as well make a masterpiece concept album while you have the time ^^
@TheAmericanOriginal Ok fine you just don't like Waters, I can accept that :P John Lennon is a nobody compared to him in my books, both at writing lyrics as well as general song writing. Our opinions differ, I just won't understand why so many more agree with you haha ^^. Probably has something to do with Roger Waters writing more depressing lyrics as opposed to "lets all hold hands and enjoy life". Frankly I dislike that kind of stuff a lot, again I guess our opinions just differ.
@JosefK93 Well, okay Roger Waters didnt sing peace anthems so he rules. John Lennon is a nobody? Not in my books sir, he marched on the streets to get his message across. He was never as spiteful as Waters always was
@TheAmericanOriginal Yeah you finally got it, being depressed makes you awesome!!!! (You know what else is awesome? Irony ^^). Anyway, I think of Lennon as a nobody and you think about him as a great musician, you think of Waters as an asshole I think about him as a great musician. Discussion ends there really, everything else is just... white noise :P We can't really argue for our taste, I hope you agree with me on that (even if I bet you, just like me, really really want to sometimes).
@JosefK93 Yes discussion ends, that is great. Especially since your replies to me have been rather strange. And I've read a lot of responses to what I've said. More power to your opinions.
@JosefK93 You are the fuckin worst cunt spastic John Lennon is the best songwriter ever and he absolutely fucking destroys Roger Waters musically. Lyrically i don't give a fuck what anycunt says they are the two best lyricists ever with Dylan in third but i would say Roger is just a wee bit better than for having the most emotive mind probing and amazing lyrical songs. Have you ever fucking listened to the beatles ya fuckin tit? They didn't start becoming real beatles until rubber soul
@JosefK93 and then they fuck exploded into the most influential and best band ever by miles on Revolver fuck if it wasn't for John's songs on that album pink floyd wouldn't even have fucking existed as a psychedelic rock band to begin with seeing as how tomorrow never knows is the first psychedelic rock song ever. One post moptop song by John you could be banging on about All You Need is Love not even close to being one of his best none of his other 65-69 songs say fuck all like that.
@JosefK93 Aw aye anybody can say anything you fuckin bitch John Lennon was an amazing all round musician the best fucking singer ever Roger would be happy to tell you he can't compare to him as a singer and the big headed fucker said John was the only english writer he would put above himself haha. He is Rogers fuckin hero look at almost any interview he has ever done he always manages to get a mention of John in there. Most people think Lennon is the best songwriter ever because
@JosefK93 because he fuckin is aswell as being the most iconic musical figure of the 60s and as famous any musician you could name. Nah you are a fuckin nobody sitting behind a computer screen spoutin shite about a huge fuckin legend i ain't even talking about him as a person or any of that peace bollocks but Lennons musical legacy cannot be fucked with. Fuckin slayed fuck off wee fuckin pussy haha.
@darcyceltic67 John Lennon only knew how to write catchy 2-3 minute pop tunes with either no solos or bad solos, and very rarely any changes in them, extremely rarely interesting changes. He is famous because his music is catchy and poppy, easy to listen to for non-musicians. What Roger Waters thinks about him and his music is none of my business, just cos I love the music Roger has written doesn't mean I have to agree with him on everything.
@JosefK93 You've never even listened to the beatles ya tastleless shite talking mong cunt. go to best ever albums site or google 100 greatest albums. The beatles have got 4 albums in the top 8 which is the way it is ya fuckin worst cunt beatles have literally got over 100 great songs i am a big a floyd fan as there is but white album abbey road and revolver are all miles better than the wall animals and wish you were here only dark side is miles ahead because it's the best album ever.
@darcyceltic67 You obviously didn't read my comments. I said I don't care about mainstream success, I explained why, go read it again... carefully this time. Beatles could NEVER write a masterpiece like "Echoes" because they only knew how to write catchy short pop tunes, not how to construct an epic or how to use effects to create unique sounds. I don't hate them for that, they had their style and it didn't involve complex song writing. But saying that they DID have complex song writing is WRONG
@JosefK93@JosefK93 Haha tomorrow never knows strawberry fields happiness is a warm gun yer blues i want you i'm only sleeping in my life dear prudence happiness is a warm gun a day in the life catchy pop twee eh haha stupidest comment i have ever heard. John lennon is a miles more diverse and all round talented songwriter than Waters was undeniable. Bet you're fucking life go onto the gear page or something and you will see the vast majority will say the beatles are the best.
@darcyceltic67 You don't seem to understand... I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK, NO I WON'T GO TO SOME WEBPAGE TO LOOK FOR MY OPINION. There, can you read it now? Strawberry: 4:14, warm gun: 2:47, yer blues: 4:01, I want you:7:48, a day in the life: 5:07, ok so we got no real epics in the style of Echoes here. We got one song that's quite long, clocking in at 7:48. It actually showcases some decent song writing, I haven't heard that song before. Still it's FAR from better bands.
@darcyceltic67 It's like saying the sun is blue you chat any bullshit you want ya fuckin tit happiness is a warm gun a day in the life strawberry fields good morning good good morning aint complex? You are totally fucking clueless and of course only floyd could make echoes just like only john lennon could have wrote i am the walrus in my life and across the universe. And nah i never said fuck argued fuck all about john lennon being so good because he was famous.
@darcyceltic67 "In my Life" is not complex no. It has one pretty interesting instrumental part that goes on for like 10 seconds. What the fuck is up with that? Why do they ruin their own song? Sometimes it sounds like they don't know how to play a fkn solo... Song structure wise it's like intro-verse-refrain-verse-refrain... yeah that's so innovative. The Beatles played what people wanted to hear, nothing more, nothing less. They didn't create much interesting, nothing at least no one did better
@JosefK93 They are the most innovative band ever don't make me bring up facts now. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE FUCKIN COMPLEX for it to be an amazing song. What age are you?
@darcyceltic67 So yeah, I won't be stubborn here. I thought that song was better than most stuff off "Rubber Soul" for example. Still it doesn't really develop too much into anything, and I would like to have more things going on in the background, more interesting effects and stuff, there seems to be a restrictiveness against complex structures in Beatles music, that is what I dislike the most, because they are not personal or unique enough to pull it off without better song writing.
@JosefK93 It does not fuckin matter how long the song is ya fuckin idiot it's all about the fucking quality and your bird can sing not even in john's top 3 songs from revolver extremely amazing song and as good a guitar riff as i have heard destroys all of meddle on it's own not including the outstanding echoes of course. I said john lennon was a miles more acomplished songwriter muscially than roger fuckin no competition nobody combines outstanding music with amazing lyrics like John.
@darcyceltic67 What I am trying to say with the length is that if The Beatles had written a 20 minute song it would have been catchy and poppy for 20 minutes which would SUCK. I see nothing brilliant in Johns lyrics, in fact I think most of them are worse than average. I think they are bad at their instruments cos most of their solos are pretty weak. I think they are quite good at constructing their verses at times, creating a nice poppy soundscape. I think they are bad at developing from there.
@JosefK93 Awright i KNOW you are just coming away with 100% pish your taste in music is fuckin terrible see if the vast majority of the world INCLUDING THE VAST MAJORITY OF MUSICIANS think the beatles are the best band ever maybe you should consider your fuckin taste clear the fuckin shite out of your ears and actually listen to those 65-69 albums with an open mind. The beatles weren't about consistenly amazing solos like floyd and zep
@darcyceltic67 I listen to extreme amounts of music, I have given "Rubber Soul" many chances and I will not waste any more time for a while on the Beatles. They are an OK, terribly overrated band in my opinion. I have other things to listen to, it's not fair against better bands that I should spend my time going through all of Beatles albums first just cos they are famous. Fuck that shit. I listen to an album here, an album there and I continue to listen to what I like, and the rest I don't.
@JosefK93 Aw and there is a good chance the verses in eclipse are influenced by i want you arepeggio aswell haha. So you aint even listened to white album abbey road revolver pepper and you expect your muscial views to be taken seriously. EPIC FAIL!! Better bands haha two songs from Mccartney on Revolver which ain't even in the top 5 best songs in the album for no one and got to get you into my life beat 99% of band enitre output.
@darcyceltic67 Here we go again... those two songs are YOUR FAVORITES, NOT MINE. I DON'T CARE about what songs YOU THINK are better than everything I listen to, and I especially don't listen to you if you claim it to be a fact. I could sit here mocking you for probably not having heard anything off "Cold Sun"s album "Dark Shadows" which I think is better than anything I've heard from the Beatles. NO WAIT IT'S A FACT, THE BEATLES ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO COLD SUN, YOU CAN'T DISAGREE. So stupid...
@JosefK93 They ain't even in my top 5 favourites album. Nobody's that will never be remembered while the beatles records are playing every second of every day all over the world. Nah this is the fuckin beatles we are talking about here different planets son. Paul mccartney is a wonderful all round musician best bass player best rock pianist bar Wright capable of excellent guitar work (taxman, good morning, the end) outstanding singer and amazing songwriter (beatles era) haha.
@darcyceltic67 Yeah you are right, lets listen to what everyone else listens to. Lets not have opinions, lets do as they say in the commercials instead, cos that is probably what most people will do anyway. If you're famous it means you're talented, nothing else matters. And of course, your words are the law. I am very sorry for disturbing your little bubble in which you live, I will stop doing that now. Go back to sleep and dream that everything above is true.
@JosefK93 I fuckin hate people it's what i think that influences my opinions fuck anycunt else. I listened to all my music myself discovered beatles floyd zep jimi dylan all about a couple of years ago i never knew fuck all about them so another fuckin FAIL from you. Who said anything about fame? I talked about John's musical genius and you calling a nobody when he is the undoubted fuckin musical icon of the 60s. Cmon you're the wee sheep that wants to not like the beatles mate.
@JosefK93 Because there is so many better bands worth listening to than the most acclaimed and discussed albums of all time summing up what you said either that or have no taste in music or both either way you are a stupid cunt and ye have totally fuckin owned coukdn't believe how stupid and ignorant you're comments have been even from some dick sitting behind a computer hitting at the most loved musicians to have ever performed.
@JosefK93 What a waste of fuckin time fuck i am off to get steamin you have been fuckin slayed and exposed as an extremely stupid ignorant tasteless and pathetic fucker. Right time to get the vod cracked soon enjoy whatever booze or drugs you are gettin on tonight you fuckin spastic.
@JosefK93 You ain't even listened to them you don't know what you are talking about you are saying the beatles ain't all that and you even listened to their golden era work to judge fuckin MORON haha.
@darcyceltic67 That's what I think, obviously you disagree. Until you learn that your opinion is not the law or fact, this discussion is meaningless. No, it doesn't need to be complex to be a good song. But many of Beatles songs could have needed some development in my opinion. You see? I can actually admit that this is my opinion. You should try that sometime, or maybe that would hurt your ego too much? I'm 18, how old are you? :D
@JosefK93 Naw of course it isn't but i don't mind people's opinions when they are reasonable and even if i am against them if i can see where they might be coming from then alright. But i swear on my fuckin life you have just talked absolute shite and came away with some of the stupidest comments i have ever heard. Do you think brain damage is musically complez? Bar Daves high notes it sounds similiar to dear prudence by beatles us and them sounds a bit like sun king aswell.
@darcyceltic67 oh please... YOU think I have stupid arguments? Who was it that said "Lennon is the greatest songwriter cos he fucking is"? I don't want to be rude, but I have had discussions with many dumb people here on Youtube but that was the dumbest thing I have ever heard from anyone here. Yes I think Brain Damage is musically complex, they have a sound that no one else has, a uniqueness and personal vibe in the instruments and vocals that the Beatles can only dream of. Imo.
@JosefK93 Funny how that guitar riff is artifically double tracked which the beatles invented and it sounds so similiar dear prudence but those beatles could never dream of getting close to that sound fuckin hell yet another fail from you. Because thats fuckin reality you wank he was roger's biggest influence lyrically in wrting dark side david and roger said he was inspired from john's first solo album. Listen to Because and seriously tell me that floyd can get near that vocally.
@darcyceltic67 I'm not talking about that Pink Floyd are good because they learned how to double track a guitar riff... you don't get my point. Listening to "because" now, sounds like a completely impersonal choir, very boring and lifeless to listen to. Again. I don't have to agree with everything the members of Pink Floyd say just because I like their music. They created something interesting to my ears, Beatles did not. End of story.
@JosefK93 What the fuck are you talking about learning to ADT? Roger was clearly influenced bigstyle by dear prudence listen to the guitar in both songs but you are saying the beatles couldnt get near that sound i need to spell out for you eh fuckin mong. The best harmonies of any song ever too bad you have unbelievebly horrible taste you should be shot in the fuckin face and put out your misery ya fuckin window lickin bullshittin bam ye. I don't give a fuck about other people's views
@darcyceltic67 "Most people think John Lennon is the best songwriter ever because he fuckin is". I mean man, you are so stupid it's not even funny anymore. The ONLY argument you have is that Lennon is famous. Well guess what dumbfuck? Lots of crappy musicians are famous, it's called the music industry creating shallow acts of entertainment for the grey mass of people who listen to whatever is easy to understand. You think Justin Bieber is a good musician? Cos that's what you are saying really...
@darcyceltic67 Then we have the fact that Beatles have influenced lots and lots of bands, including Pink Floyd. Well yeah they did, no point in denying that. Doesn't mean they are good though. Pink Floyd saw something in some of their songs that they could use along with many other ideas to develop something 1000000 times better. Does that make Beatles a better band? Hell no. Either they are good on their own, or they are not. You can't credit them for what came after them.
@juegas I'm afraid its you whos the idiot because I was not saying Pink Floyd had emotional suffering. Roger took over and made the band write about himself. There now you get it, we all fuck up sometimes. Dont let that disability make you lose sleep.
@TheAmericanOriginal No you didn't thats why I said don't say it....cuz if you did it would have been funny. You talk about them like you knew them...like you were there. You are a moron ha
@juegas No I dont talk about them like I knew them, its an opinion plain and simple. Maybe you shouldnt try to make your own pathetic self feel better. Dont give adults a bad time :)
@TheAmericanOriginal Bullshit from you aswell fuck Syd the only things he can be credited with is obviously founding the fuckin band and being a big source of inspiration on certain songs masterpieces like brain damage SOYCD and wish you were here. There's no mention of Roger's dad at all up until final cut (bar one song on the wall) which is just his first solo album with david playing on some songs. Roger just became a lyrical genius and one of the best songwriters ever
@TheAmericanOriginal from Echoes onwards and fucking drove the band bringing out the best in David's playing and imagination. Oh and i meant to say Syd's songs were fuckin shite there is about two songs worth listening to on that first album floyd would have faded into obscurity if Dave hadn't replaced him and developed his skills until Floyd got their wings from Echoes. David and Roger are both Floyd bar two outstanding muscial compositions by Wright on DSOTM.
@darcyceltic67 They did ALL of their best work in floyd together with Roger being the best fuckin lyricist ever and DG pumping out amazing solo after solo along with excellent other lead and rhythm work making him the best guitarist ever and combined with Roger's amazing mind probing lyrics they made 4 of the best album from DSOTM-The Wall and gave us the timeless music that we all love so fuck off and don't compare a lyricist and songwriter with primarily a guitarist
@bluesrockfanatic What you said is so true! I listen to his guitaring and vocals, they are so sweet and nice! I love Pink Floyd!!! You will stay in my heart 4ever!
@andrexyz one day when everyone is at the pearly gates, he will only let people who follow the guitar faith through, and only those who have believed in the guitar as the ultimate righteous act to Gilmour. He will test our abilities and people like Satriani, jeff beck, george harrison, etc will become his angels. sorry i took it a bit far
@TheRandomDestruction David is a bit of an atheist in that he has no real Faith in God that he's mentioned and instead, a VERY real fear of dying, however, Roger Waters has voiced his problem publicly is with Man Made Religion, or who man taints it, but not belief that there is a God. or deity
I have two books that explains all of Pink Floyds music, ie: what the songs are about. Does anyone have a clue, what this one is about, the only word that comes to my mind is, coma.
While a lot of Floyd's music had heady, esoteric and existential themes, sometimes you just have to take a song at face value. Especialy with Dave's solo stuff, I think he wanted to express himself more personaly in his lyrics. I think this is just the story of 2 lovers drifting apart; how you know it's over when you can be in the same room, but still feel a million miles away.
@hazelbays I agree! Gilmour is more than just an amazing guitar player. He's also a great composer and his voice has a very unique quality Your also right because all of Floyd / Gilmour's stuff does not have to be stoner music. You gottal love how he kept his back up singers from Floyd. They always added such a dramatic dimension to thier music as well.
I know this is a late reply, but I thought coma too. I had the LP a long time ago, was destroyed in a fire. It's available in a cd. I ordered from a store near me. I actually love some of the old stuff, even pre DSOTM and Wall of PF. Obscured is good and the later Division Bell I got to like more and more.
Could be about a coma. But I always took it about a relationship, a long once loving relationship that is over. You both don't know what happened to cause the rift or the distance but you are now at a spot where even though you lie together you feel like the person is a distant stranger.
@lupechennel I missed a reply, to me it sounds VERY much like the lyric, Oh, Peggy Sue...like the song is personally addressing someone. Where are all the CORRECT lyrics? I can never find ones that seem right, for most songs where it's just hard to hear the vocals. Love the music of course! haha
Wow this album proves why David Gilmour is the soul of music period and that he is the heart and soul of Pink Floyd but this album is the best solo work he ever did I guess it was his way of sticking it to roger for all the shit he had to go through with animals too bad a couple tracks were left off well instrumentals that would later become comfortably numb and run like hell
Does he even realize how fucking cool he looks just standing there in jeans, a vest, and white shirt?? my god he looks like an adonis,,how the hell could any woman resist this guy?? I dont know where the hell ive been the last 40 years and I like Pink Floyd and all. I just never realized what a fucking monster this guy is and how beautifully he sings until recently. What a man crush I now have, and this is a great song as well !!
HELP!! Come on DG fans, put on your thinking cap! Does anyone know if this actual live permormance is recorded on any album for sale? Or is this song only available on his debut solo album as recorded in the studio? I have searched everywhere! I personally think this version of the song is a better performance then the one on the album. It seems more soulful, passionate, deeper emotions, or something! I just love it and want a recording of this version! HELP!!! THANKS!!
Oh by the way, sorry all peaceful listeners of this song that I have contributed to spamming comments here that are quite unrelated to the song. I just couldn't let someone like darcyceltic67 go unanswered. I hope you forgive me and are still able to enjoy this masterful song! Keep on listening to great music :D

@roseaxe100 Same, I opted to record half of it while singing some of the Oh ahhhs that are present on the album, but here Gilmour turns on the JAM! It warrants a modern reworking, the song is so timeless!!

I'm starting to like David Gilmour's solo stuff alot more than his work in Pink Floyd (even though I still like PF too).
bluesrockfanatic 1 year ago 13
@bluesrockfanatic Gilmour's stuff is great to listen to when you get tired of Roger Waters crying "they took my daddy from me!" and all his anti-corporation, anti-war, anti-fans indictments. Pink Floyd really suffered from his biasness after Syd left.
TheAmericanOriginal 5 months ago 2
@TheAmericanOriginal I agree. When it comes to Pink Floyd, I only like the stuff Gilmour did. I never cared much for Roger Waters when I first got into Pink Floyd.
bluesrockfanatic 5 months ago
@bluesrockfanatic Cant really agree with you mate. Gilmour is my all time great, but Roger Waters wrote the Wall, and the majority of all the great Floyd works. Without him, no Floyd I'm afraid. He was/is a musical genius in his own right.. Then again, we all have our preferences eh? Take Care Mate.
mr1168726 4 months ago
@mr1168726 Hey, no worries. We have different taste. If you like Roger Waters' work, I have nothing against that. I forgot to mention in my comment that I liked Roger Waters' vocals in Comfortably Numb, even though I was never much into him. But I have nothing against your opinion. I appreciate that you expressed your opinion nicely, and not really rudely like most youtubers. Take Care.
bluesrockfanatic 4 months ago
@bluesrockfanatic My pleasure Mate. Take Care.
mr1168726 4 months ago
@TheAmericanOriginal You forget that David has built his guitar style and tone between Ummagumma and The Wall, so with Roger, and after all he developed his stuff since Momentary Lapse Of reason. .
BendAtom 4 months ago
@TheAmericanOriginal There are so many bad lyricists out there that have gotten thousands times more respect than they deserve, I just don't understand why people always want to pick on one of the best ones just because his lyrics were personal. Sure Waters took over Pink Floyd and that eventually ruined that line-up but I think it was worth it, I think they would've split up anyway, might as well make a masterpiece concept album while you have the time ^^
JosefK93 2 months ago
@JosefK93 It doesnt work that way. John Lennon's lyrics were personal and I dont rag on him. Roger Waters is a fucking asshole.
TheAmericanOriginal 2 months ago
@TheAmericanOriginal Ok fine you just don't like Waters, I can accept that :P John Lennon is a nobody compared to him in my books, both at writing lyrics as well as general song writing. Our opinions differ, I just won't understand why so many more agree with you haha ^^. Probably has something to do with Roger Waters writing more depressing lyrics as opposed to "lets all hold hands and enjoy life". Frankly I dislike that kind of stuff a lot, again I guess our opinions just differ.
JosefK93 2 months ago
@JosefK93 Well, okay Roger Waters didnt sing peace anthems so he rules. John Lennon is a nobody? Not in my books sir, he marched on the streets to get his message across. He was never as spiteful as Waters always was
TheAmericanOriginal 2 months ago
@TheAmericanOriginal Yeah you finally got it, being depressed makes you awesome!!!! (You know what else is awesome? Irony ^^). Anyway, I think of Lennon as a nobody and you think about him as a great musician, you think of Waters as an asshole I think about him as a great musician. Discussion ends there really, everything else is just... white noise :P We can't really argue for our taste, I hope you agree with me on that (even if I bet you, just like me, really really want to sometimes).
JosefK93 2 months ago
@JosefK93 Yes discussion ends, that is great. Especially since your replies to me have been rather strange. And I've read a lot of responses to what I've said. More power to your opinions.
TheAmericanOriginal 2 months ago
@JosefK93 You are the fuckin worst cunt spastic John Lennon is the best songwriter ever and he absolutely fucking destroys Roger Waters musically. Lyrically i don't give a fuck what anycunt says they are the two best lyricists ever with Dylan in third but i would say Roger is just a wee bit better than for having the most emotive mind probing and amazing lyrical songs. Have you ever fucking listened to the beatles ya fuckin tit? They didn't start becoming real beatles until rubber soul
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 and then they fuck exploded into the most influential and best band ever by miles on Revolver fuck if it wasn't for John's songs on that album pink floyd wouldn't even have fucking existed as a psychedelic rock band to begin with seeing as how tomorrow never knows is the first psychedelic rock song ever. One post moptop song by John you could be banging on about All You Need is Love not even close to being one of his best none of his other 65-69 songs say fuck all like that.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 Aw aye anybody can say anything you fuckin bitch John Lennon was an amazing all round musician the best fucking singer ever Roger would be happy to tell you he can't compare to him as a singer and the big headed fucker said John was the only english writer he would put above himself haha. He is Rogers fuckin hero look at almost any interview he has ever done he always manages to get a mention of John in there. Most people think Lennon is the best songwriter ever because
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 because he fuckin is aswell as being the most iconic musical figure of the 60s and as famous any musician you could name. Nah you are a fuckin nobody sitting behind a computer screen spoutin shite about a huge fuckin legend i ain't even talking about him as a person or any of that peace bollocks but Lennons musical legacy cannot be fucked with. Fuckin slayed fuck off wee fuckin pussy haha.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 John Lennon only knew how to write catchy 2-3 minute pop tunes with either no solos or bad solos, and very rarely any changes in them, extremely rarely interesting changes. He is famous because his music is catchy and poppy, easy to listen to for non-musicians. What Roger Waters thinks about him and his music is none of my business, just cos I love the music Roger has written doesn't mean I have to agree with him on everything.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 You've never even listened to the beatles ya tastleless shite talking mong cunt. go to best ever albums site or google 100 greatest albums. The beatles have got 4 albums in the top 8 which is the way it is ya fuckin worst cunt beatles have literally got over 100 great songs i am a big a floyd fan as there is but white album abbey road and revolver are all miles better than the wall animals and wish you were here only dark side is miles ahead because it's the best album ever.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 You obviously didn't read my comments. I said I don't care about mainstream success, I explained why, go read it again... carefully this time. Beatles could NEVER write a masterpiece like "Echoes" because they only knew how to write catchy short pop tunes, not how to construct an epic or how to use effects to create unique sounds. I don't hate them for that, they had their style and it didn't involve complex song writing. But saying that they DID have complex song writing is WRONG
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 @JosefK93 Haha tomorrow never knows strawberry fields happiness is a warm gun yer blues i want you i'm only sleeping in my life dear prudence happiness is a warm gun a day in the life catchy pop twee eh haha stupidest comment i have ever heard. John lennon is a miles more diverse and all round talented songwriter than Waters was undeniable. Bet you're fucking life go onto the gear page or something and you will see the vast majority will say the beatles are the best.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 It's like saying the sun is blue you chat any bullshit you want ya fuckin tit happiness is a warm gun a day in the life strawberry fields good morning good good morning aint complex? You are totally fucking clueless and of course only floyd could make echoes just like only john lennon could have wrote i am the walrus in my life and across the universe. And nah i never said fuck argued fuck all about john lennon being so good because he was famous.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 "In my Life" is not complex no. It has one pretty interesting instrumental part that goes on for like 10 seconds. What the fuck is up with that? Why do they ruin their own song? Sometimes it sounds like they don't know how to play a fkn solo... Song structure wise it's like intro-verse-refrain-verse-refrain... yeah that's so innovative. The Beatles played what people wanted to hear, nothing more, nothing less. They didn't create much interesting, nothing at least no one did better
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 They are the most innovative band ever don't make me bring up facts now. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE FUCKIN COMPLEX for it to be an amazing song. What age are you?
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 So yeah, I won't be stubborn here. I thought that song was better than most stuff off "Rubber Soul" for example. Still it doesn't really develop too much into anything, and I would like to have more things going on in the background, more interesting effects and stuff, there seems to be a restrictiveness against complex structures in Beatles music, that is what I dislike the most, because they are not personal or unique enough to pull it off without better song writing.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 It does not fuckin matter how long the song is ya fuckin idiot it's all about the fucking quality and your bird can sing not even in john's top 3 songs from revolver extremely amazing song and as good a guitar riff as i have heard destroys all of meddle on it's own not including the outstanding echoes of course. I said john lennon was a miles more acomplished songwriter muscially than roger fuckin no competition nobody combines outstanding music with amazing lyrics like John.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 What I am trying to say with the length is that if The Beatles had written a 20 minute song it would have been catchy and poppy for 20 minutes which would SUCK. I see nothing brilliant in Johns lyrics, in fact I think most of them are worse than average. I think they are bad at their instruments cos most of their solos are pretty weak. I think they are quite good at constructing their verses at times, creating a nice poppy soundscape. I think they are bad at developing from there.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 Awright i KNOW you are just coming away with 100% pish your taste in music is fuckin terrible see if the vast majority of the world INCLUDING THE VAST MAJORITY OF MUSICIANS think the beatles are the best band ever maybe you should consider your fuckin taste clear the fuckin shite out of your ears and actually listen to those 65-69 albums with an open mind. The beatles weren't about consistenly amazing solos like floyd and zep
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 I listen to extreme amounts of music, I have given "Rubber Soul" many chances and I will not waste any more time for a while on the Beatles. They are an OK, terribly overrated band in my opinion. I have other things to listen to, it's not fair against better bands that I should spend my time going through all of Beatles albums first just cos they are famous. Fuck that shit. I listen to an album here, an album there and I continue to listen to what I like, and the rest I don't.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 Aw and there is a good chance the verses in eclipse are influenced by i want you arepeggio aswell haha. So you aint even listened to white album abbey road revolver pepper and you expect your muscial views to be taken seriously. EPIC FAIL!! Better bands haha two songs from Mccartney on Revolver which ain't even in the top 5 best songs in the album for no one and got to get you into my life beat 99% of band enitre output.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 They ain't even in my top 5 favourites album. Nobody's that will never be remembered while the beatles records are playing every second of every day all over the world. Nah this is the fuckin beatles we are talking about here different planets son. Paul mccartney is a wonderful all round musician best bass player best rock pianist bar Wright capable of excellent guitar work (taxman, good morning, the end) outstanding singer and amazing songwriter (beatles era) haha.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 Yeah you are right, lets listen to what everyone else listens to. Lets not have opinions, lets do as they say in the commercials instead, cos that is probably what most people will do anyway. If you're famous it means you're talented, nothing else matters. And of course, your words are the law. I am very sorry for disturbing your little bubble in which you live, I will stop doing that now. Go back to sleep and dream that everything above is true.

darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 That's what I think, obviously you disagree. Until you learn that your opinion is not the law or fact, this discussion is meaningless. No, it doesn't need to be complex to be a good song. But many of Beatles songs could have needed some development in my opinion. You see? I can actually admit that this is my opinion. You should try that sometime, or maybe that would hurt your ego too much? I'm 18, how old are you? :D
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 Naw of course it isn't but i don't mind people's opinions when they are reasonable and even if i am against them if i can see where they might be coming from then alright. But i swear on my fuckin life you have just talked absolute shite and came away with some of the stupidest comments i have ever heard. Do you think brain damage is musically complez? Bar Daves high notes it sounds similiar to dear prudence by beatles us and them sounds a bit like sun king aswell.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 oh please... YOU think I have stupid arguments? Who was it that said "Lennon is the greatest songwriter cos he fucking is"? I don't want to be rude, but I have had discussions with many dumb people here on Youtube but that was the dumbest thing I have ever heard from anyone here. Yes I think Brain Damage is musically complex, they have a sound that no one else has, a uniqueness and personal vibe in the instruments and vocals that the Beatles can only dream of. Imo.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 Funny how that guitar riff is artifically double tracked which the beatles invented and it sounds so similiar dear prudence but those beatles could never dream of getting close to that sound fuckin hell yet another fail from you. Because thats fuckin reality you wank he was roger's biggest influence lyrically in wrting dark side david and roger said he was inspired from john's first solo album. Listen to Because and seriously tell me that floyd can get near that vocally.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 I'm not talking about that Pink Floyd are good because they learned how to double track a guitar riff... you don't get my point. Listening to "because" now, sounds like a completely impersonal choir, very boring and lifeless to listen to. Again. I don't have to agree with everything the members of Pink Floyd say just because I like their music. They created something interesting to my ears, Beatles did not. End of story.
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@JosefK93 What the fuck are you talking about learning to ADT? Roger was clearly influenced bigstyle by dear prudence listen to the guitar in both songs but you are saying the beatles couldnt get near that sound i need to spell out for you eh fuckin mong. The best harmonies of any song ever too bad you have unbelievebly horrible taste you should be shot in the fuckin face and put out your misery ya fuckin window lickin bullshittin bam ye. I don't give a fuck about other people's views
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 "Most people think John Lennon is the best songwriter ever because he fuckin is". I mean man, you are so stupid it's not even funny anymore. The ONLY argument you have is that Lennon is famous. Well guess what dumbfuck? Lots of crappy musicians are famous, it's called the music industry creating shallow acts of entertainment for the grey mass of people who listen to whatever is easy to understand. You think Justin Bieber is a good musician? Cos that's what you are saying really...
JosefK93 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 Then we have the fact that Beatles have influenced lots and lots of bands, including Pink Floyd. Well yeah they did, no point in denying that. Doesn't mean they are good though. Pink Floyd saw something in some of their songs that they could use along with many other ideas to develop something 1000000 times better. Does that make Beatles a better band? Hell no. Either they are good on their own, or they are not. You can't credit them for what came after them.

There's no mention of Roger's dad at all up until final cut (bar one song on the wall) which is just his first solo album with david playing on some songs. Roger just became a lyrical genius and one of the best songwriters ever
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@TheAmericanOriginal from Echoes onwards and fucking drove the band bringing out the best in David's playing and imagination. Oh and i meant to say Syd's songs were fuckin shite there is about two songs worth listening to on that first album floyd would have faded into obscurity if Dave hadn't replaced him and developed his skills until Floyd got their wings from Echoes. David and Roger are both Floyd bar two outstanding muscial compositions by Wright on DSOTM.
darcyceltic67 2 weeks ago
@darcyceltic67 They did ALL of their best work in floyd together with Roger being the best fuckin lyricist ever and DG pumping out amazing solo after solo along with excellent other lead and rhythm work making him the best guitarist ever and combined with Roger's amazing mind probing lyrics they made 4 of the best album from DSOTM-The Wall and gave us the timeless music that we all love so fuck off and don't compare a lyricist and songwriter with primarily a guitarist

TheRandomDestruction 2 years ago
@TheRandomDestruction David is a bit of an atheist in that he has no real Faith in God that he's mentioned and instead, a VERY real fear of dying, however, Roger Waters has voiced his problem publicly is with Man Made Religion, or who man taints it, but not belief that there is a God. or deity

I have two books that explains all of Pink Floyds music, ie: what the songs are about. Does anyone have a clue, what this one is about, the only word that comes to my mind is, coma.
80sagain 2 years ago
While a lot of Floyd's music had heady, esoteric and existential themes, sometimes you just have to take a song at face value. Especialy with Dave's solo stuff, I think he wanted to express himself more personaly in his lyrics. I think this is just the story of 2 lovers drifting apart; how you know it's over when you can be in the same room, but still feel a million miles away.
hazelbays 2 years ago 15
@hazelbays I agree! Gilmour is more than just an amazing guitar player. He's also a great composer and his voice has a very unique quality Your also right because all of Floyd / Gilmour's stuff does not have to be stoner music. You gottal love how he kept his back up singers from Floyd. They always added such a dramatic dimension to thier music as well.
Xcorgi 8 months ago
which books do you have? and do you reccomend them?
shoesOMG000 2 years ago
I know this is a late reply, but I thought coma too. I had the LP a long time ago, was destroyed in a fire. It's available in a cd. I ordered from a store near me. I actually love some of the old stuff, even pre DSOTM and Wall of PF. Obscured is good and the later Division Bell I got to like more and more.
Brrrrr43 2 years ago
Could be about a coma. But I always took it about a relationship, a long once loving relationship that is over. You both don't know what happened to cause the rift or the distance but you are now at a spot where even though you lie together you feel like the person is a distant stranger.
