In comparison to the U.S. population, non-Whites are not represented fairly in the Marine Corps either yet the army is very well represented. In NYC the same is true for the Corrections Dept it is very well represented by non-White while the fire department is not. The common factor, BLACKS DON’T WANT TO BE MARINES or FDNY FIREFIGHTERS. I don’t know why but maybe it is because solders in the US army and corrections officers in NYC are less likely to DIE or be injured then US Marines and FDNY.

The FDNY has to deal with everything from a water leak to an atom bomb. We need people who have the cognitive ability to develop the situation. The books to study for this job are 5 feet high. This is the most competitive job out of all of the civil services. If a person cannot pass a test given at a 10th grade reading level, he should not get on. Its not just about passing. You have to compete with 20,000 other people.
What too many blacks choose not to understand is the highschool drop out rate in New York is over 50%. Almost 8 out of 10 black children are being raised without a father in the home. Go to Harlem tonight and you will see hundreds of little kids hanging out on the streets until past midnight. The African American family is in trouble. Black kids are already 2 years behind their whit counterparts in by the time they hit first grade.
