This 911 call gives me chills every time I hear it. Without a gun to defend herself this woman would be dead, all hte police would have been able to do when they arrived would be to charge Ryan Bergner for her murder - a cold comfort to her and her family/friends.

@blacksuite1 Many people think the same about 911 dispatch, but their impression of it is wrong,it is very tough to get info from someone that is scared to death, she needs that info, the victim's life and the police officer's life depend on that. Cops need to know who is there, who is the victim, what part of the house, does he have a weapon, etc. The more info, the better the response. Their scripts are designed to both calm and question the victim. I understand the perception of it though.
I think the first thing the 911 dispatcher should do is ask/track for the location/address before asking all these stupid questions like "who is" "what is he trying to do" "please calm down I will send a police over" I mean that is a lot of time wasting.

I've been wondering what happened to the victim's friend (the one who gave the victim the gun to defend herself). Did he or she get in trouble for giving the gun to the victim? I ask because I mentioned this incident to someone and he mentioned what's called a straw purchase, which is illegal if I recall.
Strawman purchases are legal gun purchases by people with clean records, who then sell those guns to criminals or gun trafficers/dealers on the black market.
Giving somebody your pistol to defend themselves after repeated, documented harassment is not straw purchase.

Maybe in the lame ass state you live in but here in Texas we have the Castle Doctrine. Meaning a person has no duty to retreat. If you're in your home (or car, or RV, etc) you can use deadly force to protect your life or property. You don't have to be cowering in the corner of your bathtub, with no where to else to run, you can make your stand at the front door and protect yourself and your loved ones.
If a man breaks into my house then yes, he will be taken care of by my shotgun. I find that preferable to hiding behind the balsa wood door to my bedroom, hoping the police get there before he decides to kill me.

Guns can most likely be found by children and they often shoot themselves playing with it. I think a taser may be the best solution to this situation.
That's why a parent with a brain locks it up or keeps it on their person. Better yet, they'll teach the kid how to use it when they are old enough/responsible enough to understand so they'll know trigger discipline, barrel direction awareness, and what to do if someone is playing with one. A few hours later the swat team goes in after getting the building blue prints and practicing a few hours of drills.

The only broblem with firearms that they can be bought not just for self protection. They can protect or kill you. Im not against them, but here if both gipsies and skinheads could buy real firearms with live ammo without needing an expensive license, they would start a civil war. I think less-lethal firearms and tazers could be a solution.

It was the story and 911 calls of Denise Amber Lee (look it up and listen to her calls) that moved me to get my permit. I now carry a snub nose 357 on my ankle every time I leave the house. I absolutely refuse to delude myself into thinking pepper spray or 911 will save me from some maniac. It won't happen girls. It's OK to protect yourself. You get shoved in the back of a car it's a bullet to his head THEN call 911. Don't give them a sliver of a chance when you can stop it yourself.

@blacksuite1 Many people think the same about 911 dispatch, but their impression of it is wrong,it is very tough to get info from someone that is scared to death, she needs that info, the victim's life and the police officer's life depend on that. Cops need to know who is there, who is the victim, what part of the house, does he have a weapon, etc. The more info, the better the response. Their scripts are designed to both calm and question the victim. I understand the perception of it though.

I think the first thing the 911 dispatcher should do is ask/track for the location/address before asking all these stupid questions like "who is" "what is he trying to do" "please calm down I will send a police over" I mean that is a lot of time wasting.

A stalker getting killed by the victim. It's pretty rare. If it happened more often it would be better. If you are being stalked, this is about the only way of taking care of yourself. They are coming regardless. 6 restraining orders didn't help, all the outward appearance of police and court threats didn't come close to affecting this guy. Being dead certainly stopped him.

I would say shots were fired at 5:44 right before she starts crying assuming that if she is no longer being strangled she is able to cry in a more open manner. Guns shots are not nearly as loud as you would think they would be over a telephone.

Another incident in germany:
A student and his friend were attacked by 4 guys. The student defended himself after his friend was already beaten down with a small decoration knife and stabbed one attacker in the throat. The defender was jugded to 3 years in prison and had to pay 12,000 euros to the attacker because he injured him.
The defender was also forced to apology to the attacker.
It seems, in germany your only right as someone who is attacked is to die. :-(

@ angelicainark No. It´s switzerland. You have to join a milita at a certain age and with joining it you get an automatic rifle and you have to keep your rifle in your home with a sufficient ammo. And yes their gun crime rate is the lowest in the world. Sounds logical to me. I wouldn´t brake in a home or comit any crime in a place where everyone has a gun and could take me down in a matter of seconds.

Maybe in the lame ass state you live in but here in Texas we have the Castle Doctrine. Meaning a person has no duty to retreat. If you're in your home (or car, or RV, etc) you can use deadly force to protect your life or property. You don't have to be cowering in the corner of your bathtub, with no where to else to run, you can make your stand at the front door and protect yourself and your loved ones.

wow, did you ever take science in school? if you shoot someone with a tazer while they're choking you, the electrical current would pass from him, into the victim, causing her to be imobilizd. with a gun, a bullet flies straight.

Do not ever insult my knowledge is science! The conduction problem didn't occur to me because I don't have a taser or gun or any weapon. I've never needed to worry about it.
But it comes to science, I've had to defend it for a year at a Christian Right school. It was hell! There are other things you can attack me on but not that subject.

my son is a better shot than me and is fully trained in gun use and safety I would not think of locking it up what if I was killed or knocked out and a taser has one shot and acuracy is shit, and taser you have to make contact.

this woman stood here ground locked her self in a room to avoid having to use deadly force until the authorities arrived, sadly they did not in time making deadly force necessary in order to defend her rights of life which the man wanted to take and did not comply with her orders to stop, which makes it without a doubt the proper actions! I like many would of not gone in the room and taken our weapon and would of shot the guy!

"mangeese" killing is not the best of way but in the moments like this it was the only way, the guy could get out of prison in the later years and attempt to harm/kill here and your saying crap about war? that is nothing close to what happened so go join the the marines and see how you stand up to firefights everyday with 7.62 ak47 rounds wizzing past your head, you'd be crying..... the only choice she had was to shoot and everyone has the right to defend them self/home/family/peace!

Non Leather Effective force is the way to go. Killing solved nothing.

Its a shame females don't have the ability to use this type of defense. And instead they have no choice but to KILL.

Sure he's mentally disturbed so don't threaten him with a weapon, get some decent home locks and windows, get the police to do a faster service, lethal force to a non-lethal situation is stupid, thank god America is sobering up to this in light of all these massacres

even if the police drive 100mph, they CANNOT get to your home in time. and if you heard, the door was locked, but he broke it down. if she didn't have a gun at that time, she could have been dead before the police even arrived.

I agree with everything you said, pimpinmymyspace. Also, the victim WOULD have been dead had her friend not given her a gun (unregistered by the way) that same day (Hey anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment, and gun control advocates, the friend's "wrong" action was legally, morally, and perfectly right!). Good decision to not charge the victim and her friend. Had they been charged and ended up in prison, I would've held such decisions IN CONTEMPT! This kind of self-defense was justified.
