  • Another award for the All American Red Heads!

The All American Red Heads will be honored as "Tailblazers" of the game at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2011 along with their annual induction ceremony.

  • I love these gals.......grew with jolene ammons.....wonderful!

  • YOU LADIES ARE AMAZING!!!! ROCK ON - YOU ARE LEGENDS!!!

  • great... great vid luuuc....

  • I just came across a booking type of program for these ladies, two of the pictures are signed. Do you think this is worth something?

  • This is great! A good way to start Woman's History Month and to remember this was before we had Title IX. I have a poster framed in my office from when they played the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis on May 3rd of an unknown year. May they be inducted as it is about time!

  • Does the poster have pictures of players? send me a msg and I will try and help identify if you want.

  • there are 19 pictures of players on the poster. they include Brenda O'Bryan, Pam Rowlett, Sue Whitten, Jana Giles, Glenda Hall, Wanda England, Patricia Overman and karen Logan. the Red Heads were playing the Pro-Am Stars.

  • I have the same poster next to my computer. trying to find out the exact time frame. I believe it to be 1973 but the actual game may have been May 6th and not the 3rd. However, this was a gathering of previous red heads as well as current ones and is considered to be the first reunion of the All American Red Heads

  • FINALISTS FOR INDUCTION TO THE NAISMITH MEMORIAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME!!!!

    So well deserved!

  • Fantastic news! :-)

  • The All American Red Heads will be honored at the senior FIMBA Pan-American Maxibasketball Championships in Oregon this summer. They will also be playing against the Alumni of the NBA Portland Trailblazers

  • From the web site devoted to the team: "Originally, the team, all sporting dyed or natural red hair, publicized Olsons Beauty Parlors in Kansas and Missouri, and though later the team moved to Arkansas, they kept their name."

As a school fundraiser, my Dad was on a team that played against "The Redheads". They put on a great show.

There's still an old sign leaned agasint a building in Caraway, AR declaring it the home of the All American Red Heads.

  • Yes, I saw that sign as well. Wish they would put it back up and display it, especially since Owner/Coach Orwell Moore passed away this past year.

  • On ball handling skills.

One thing that many do not realize, is these women did not have basketball camps available to them when in school The arrived about a week to 10 days prior to going on the road.

They would practice in their hotel rooms, rest stops, wherever they could.

    They lived by the 4D's

    Desire

    Dedication

    Determination

    Discipline

  • So these girls beat the And 1 Mixtape Tour to the idea by about 50 years. And 1 = biters! lol

  • Not many of them were true red heads. The red hair did certainly did create a interest in and of itself.

Their first trip to Alaska was in 1957. Never mind seeing women play professional basketball. For local Native American Eskimo's to see women with Red Hair, was a event in itself.

They would even be asked by local tribes to dance with them.

The only way the Red Heads wouldnt have a crowd in Alaska was if one of the men had gone out on a fishing trip and came back with a whale.

  • That was very entertaining to watch. Their ballhandling skills were truly amazing. It'd be hard to put together a team like that even with WNBA players.

  • ok i'm impressed these girls got seriouse skill but just wonder how many were "real" redheads I mean I know thats a moot point guess every team needs a gimmick but anyway wish there was something like that today a female globetrotter type team with the skillz girls got today I mean something besides the WNBA whitch I for one think is a must have to have a womens league in US have to.....

  • web site is

    allamericanredheads(dot)com

  • The All American Red Heads are the pioneers of women's professional basketball.

They played 200 games a season (all on the road), played only men, by their rules and usually won over 75% of the time.

this footage is from 1968 and 73 and includes some alumni footage as well.

A book is currently being writtten on this legendary team.
