  • I still have this on a VHS tape from January 1986.. broadcast on WNEV-TV (Boston, now WHDH).. the commercials and local promos were great! lol

  • As for the Java sketch, it did appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, but the version they aired was the one shown on the Muppet Show.

  • Doesn't Sly Stallone ironically voice a lion in the movie "Zookeeper"? :)

  • i was 11 when this came out but i was staying the night at a friends house and only got watch half of it thanks for the upload.good times

  • the muppets should have a roast anyone agree?

  • Imagine how many puppeteers had to be there to film this!!

  • Oh man, I was thinking about this the other day! I taped this when I was 7.

  • i wonder what kind of combination would happen if Jim henson were to do some collaborations with Sid and Marty Krofft

  • I had no idea that this show (A Celebration Of) existed! Thanks for posting this.

  • It looks like every muppet that we have come all together.

  • simply put.. this was their 30th

what did disney do on their 50th?

    dvd releases? pffhhh

  • how old is this!? its awsome!!!

  • I have this recorded on BetaMax. Glad to see it back on the tube!

Wish there was more stuff from Sam and Friends though.

  • Most of the Sam and Friends archive is no longer around.

  • It's neat to see what "Sam and Friends" was like.

  • That Yorick guy was the inspiration for all those muppets who eat the other muppets. Gorgon Heap, Behemoth, Big Mean Carl, the word shebang.

  • LOL, I kinda like the part with Wilkins, Wontkins, and the cannon. Those commercials were hilarious.

  • it's a shame Disney have owned Jim Henson Muppets rights

  • @filipotense

agreed though i do have high hopes for their new muppet projects (frags, new muppet movie, etc). Don't forget jim henson was always into the idea of muppets being part of disney and moving into more alt projects (more storyteller type stuff), although i don't think he'd approve of their treatment post mortem..(ie muppet wizard of oz, etc)

  • OMG, they started in the 1950s?! I never knew that until now!

  • if you search youtube you can find some of that early early black and white commercial stuff.. it's great

  • Sensational.

  • Sam and friends is mix sesame street and muppet show

  • I would have to say Sam and friends actually was the inspiration for both, because both shows came after Sam & Friends

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • holy snap, this the same recording i had on Beta! i remember that Mighty Dog promo! lmao!

  • When i was 5 i met all of them :)

  • how

  • i forget somewhere in california where they made them all

  • cool, lucky u :)

  • poor kermit. lol

  • I remember this special when it first aired. I didn't get to see much of it because we had a Rainbow vacuum saleswoman come to the house to try to sell us a vacuum. She stayed for two hours...

  • 5:07 to 5:31 - it's Willard Whyte from DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER :)

  • Nothing say "Entertainment" like dancing elbow macaroni!

  • 1986, read the description

  • somewhere around 1980's since Jim Henson died in 1990. R.I.P Jim Henson

  • Muppets Celebrate 30 years Kermit Ernie Swedish Chef Waldorf Dr.Teeth Jim Henson Fozzie Grover Animal Miss Piggy Cookie Monster Bert Frank Oz Count Floyd Two Headed Monster Lew Zealand Hery Monster Jerry Nelson Sweetums Two Headed Monster Staler Scooter Beaker Richard Hunt Gonzo Uncle Matt Dr. Honeydew Dave Goelz Rizzo Sprocket Lips Steve Whitmire Big Bird Oscar Carroll Spinney 1986

  • Yeah, what "eatmeahX8" said.

  • Fuckin' right! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS AND SAM AND FRIENDS STUFF!

  • 1986? so you mean to tell me that 50 happened a couple of years and nothing happened?! Unjust!

  • yeah it is a shame, 50 is a big number and the only thing they did was mention it on the DVD's

  • Wow , i post this complaint all the time. The 50th anniversary was merely a series of dvd releases and re-releases... super depressing what disney has turned the muppets into

  • tell me about it, man. they had the Muppets recently on an ep new disney show featuring its "actors" in comedic studio situations, and all the Muppets did was make comments like "i hear those Jonas Brothers are pretty hot." *shudders*

Ever see the Saturday TV Funhouse skit where 2 kids visit the Disney Vault? at one point, they find Jim Henson bound and gagged:

    KIDS: Jim Henson!

MICKEY: He wouldn't sell! HE WOULDN'T SELLLL!!

  • just because Studio DC is what kids are watching doesn't mean it's good for them. All it is is further exploitation of Disney Channel's actors and singers. As if we didn't have enough of that with all the Hannah Montanas and High School Musicals they air. I mean, where the f is Mickey anymore? i swear, today if u meantion Mickey Mouse to a kid today, it'd be like "...Mickey who?" "Mickey, with the big round ears?" "..." "...Hanna Montana." "OH HANNAH MONTANA! I -LOVE- HANNAH MONTANA!" *sighs*

  • i certainly agree with the hanna montana thing.. it's just disney using it's marketing muscle to shove something down our throats.

I don't think merging their actors, singers, cartoons, or in this case, their muppets is bad and it's not exploiation it's just marketing and entertainment. Just like kids incorporated and all that crap, just in a new century/hyped up level. So i don't necessarily agree it's all crap, but disney does shove a lot of this crap in our face constantly everywhere

  • it's all crap, cuz they don't even do anything Disney-ish save for it's cartoon shows. Kim Possible, The Proud Family, all that stuff i can appreciate, plus films like Pirates and Narnia. but other than that, ALL Disney does is promote pop music and make unnecessary sequels. You can't even watch vintage Mickey anymore! Walt isn't just turning over in his grave, he's throwing SEIZURES. Same with Henson prolly, cuz of that Studio DC ep.

  • Those were the days! Because right now (or since the mid-90's), they just haven't been real entertainers!

  • oh my god my mom taped this for me and i used to watch it alllll the time! thank you!

  • what song was kermit singing at 3:30

  • I believe it's "That Old Black Magic."

  • thanx

  • the 80s were the best

  • this makes me so happy i am drinking a beer and watching this wishing i was 8 years old again.....thanks!

  • I used to have this on tape....years ago. Thanks so much for posting!

  • What channel did this air from?

  • quite a few mostly it was on nickelodeon in the early to mid 90s

  • Actually, it was on CBS that this show aired. And it did not air in the early-to-mid 90s; it was in early 1986.

  • "Ladies and Gentlemen, and pigs and bears...and things...and stuff...." My first love was Fozzie...

  • god i love the muppets.

  • Yeah, that's what happened to me, too. I accidentally recorded over the very first part of that. On my tape, the show cuts in with Fozzie introducing Kermit.

  • I have this show on tape at home!

  • I want to know if there is a special like this one about the 50 years of the muppets. I mean, come on, why wounldn´t they do that?

  • Lol, Yorick in the end... Thanks for the upload too. This one's a Fave of mine :)

  • "My bellybutton blew out" lol

I miss Rowlf and Jim so much.

  • wow... kermit in drag... lol

  • thanks for posting this!!! I still have my tape, but the into was recorded over.

  • LOL @ THE WILKINS COFFEE COMMERCIAL!

  • I have a DVD of old-timey TV commercials and one of them was of a Wilkins coffee commercial, but it was a different one from the one shown here. It showed a cannon, though. But the dialog was different and so were the voices.

  • Now THIS is what kid's tv should be!

  • OMG! I've been wanting to see this in FOREVER! Thank you!

  • I was 2 years old when this aired...and i've since worn out my beta copy my dad made years ago. Thank you so much for this, it brings back a better time in my life.

  • i love muppets 30 years

  • I wish they would put "Sam and Friends" on DVD

  • Yorick looks like James Vance.

  • who was that yellow character sitting at the table with herry and telly?

  • That's either Guy Smiley or some generic yellow monster.

  • ok, now 1 more question, who the heck is guy smiley?

  • just kidding. i know who guy smiley is (in fact i'd better, he's my favorite sesame street character of all.

  • i'm not sure, but the miss usa pageant aired after this did it not?

  • You may be right about the miss usa pageant ...there was a commercial promoting something like that which I edited out of the show -if so, good memory!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I was dying to see it again (my copy was taped over years ago)

  • Yorrick-creepy lil' bastard who wants to eat Kermit...

  • WOW! I can't believe you managed to get the whole show up! I have the show, too, but the intro portion has been recorded over by mistake.

  • When did you tape this special

  • i think he taped it back in 1986

  • Jim Henson's Muppet Empire is something that's very awesome! May Muppet King Jim Henson always rest in peace in heaven. He was such a great man! He was a Visionary! A Real Genius! My heart goes out to his family- especially his wife Jane and his 5 kids.

  • Anyone of you people saw I've Grown Accustom to your face in color on Ed Sullivan Show, go to 4:03 and you will see the B&W clip of it & at 00:19 you'll see The Computer Monster clip in B&W & in Part 3 you will also see it with the explosions clips.

  • On 7:54, Look for the stars of Sam & Friends in color.

  • i had the 30th anniversery special, but then the tape broke :(
