AFI and Bad Religion helped save my life in high school.

@jafsica Yeah I mention Thrice because they're basically a Christian band, which as everybody knows means they suck - I mean of course they don't even cop to it, it's just all their songs are super-Christiany and full of Bible verses like fucking Evanescence. So to see them pop up when I buy a song about how religion is mental slavery makes me laugh. This CD takes me back to freshman year in college...it's like the sound of me having fun when I was 18, plus the lyrics of course reign.

Davey CAN'T yell like he used to anymore, seeing as how he's had surgery on his throat and his voice changed. It's sad, but we do still have many great albums, compared to their newer material. Despite many fans' disapproval they continue to do what they love. Amazing.

@willbirkin666 Two Augusts ago, but they opened for Green Day and played their hits starting from Sing the Sorrow. He kind of screamed in Dancing Through Sunday, but it wasn't as intense the album version.
I only read about his throat surgery on the DF boards. I'd love the opportunity to see them live and watch them play more of their older songs.

Lol Davey had no issues with his voice. Watch him live he;s still screaming.,..a lot. It's just a style change. Jade brought a wide variety of style that opened them up. Davey's lyrics though..seems to have lost a little substance but nothing is wrong with his voice. Watch "I Heard a Voice" =)
Sorry but since Davey Havok has had an issue with his voice, AFI has lost its power, they are rather emo, but I think this is planned anyways, they did say they are disappointed in every ass hole who has a full sleeve and would not have done so themselves if every jack ass did the same. My favorite song on the album, pumps me up. Not many afi songs get me ready for sports, it's weird I'm a hiphop kid born and raised on it. This is the only rock artist/group I keep up w/. Theyr music can transcend to other tastes of music
AFI rocked big time here but they still do rock big time. AFI is AFI and all fans should accept all of the music AFI is preforming for "us". AFI's album crash love which was out on september 29 is sorta pop rock but hey they are still a great band. LOVE YA AFI!

So, compared to a Daughtry album, be satisfied with December Underground and Crash Love...because, in comparison, it's some of the last real fucking music left.

disagree with me if you like but understand one thing; AFI DID NOT SELL OUT. Davey and Jade wanted to take the band in a new direction. Their punk stuff was amazing, sure, but their newer, darker, kind of music is good. It has a very unique sound and honestly, the lyrics are much less childish. That's what they did. They didn't sell out. They grew up.

Black sails reigns. It's such a tight album in every way. Davey's vocals were top notch. Sing the sorrow would actually be tied with shut your mouth.. They grew up on that album significantly. The instrumentals are very dynamic compared to their older albums. Also, Crash love - The songs are good.. but are missing something.

I got into AFI at like sing the sorrow times (which is personally my favorite afi record) and i bought Art of Drowning later and love it.
So ive tried to listen to black sails but srsly, this jst aint very gd music. His voice gets annoying, cnt relly understand the lyrics, the guitar riffs are kinda stupid and off time.

The style present on Art of Drowning is very similar to Black Sails. The only difference is the differing themes i.e. Black Sails being a little more upbeat than the despair heard on the Art of Drowning. Other than that, they're very close stylistically.

it wasn't jade's fault, the band decided they were bored of writing the same music over and over, after all there was 4 albums of the same stuff, as Davey himself said in the KROQ interview in 2008 he said they were simply bored of playing the same music. (misfits actually but its more so present in danzig (they have the same singer he just didnt like the misfits so he left em))
Yea, I have to agree with you about liking Danzig if you like this. I wasn't impressed with the two songs you mentioned, though. I like the more dark and hard songs they made as well as songs like Cold Cold Rain.

My favorite song on the album, pumps me up. Not many afi songs get me ready for sports, it's weird I'm a hiphop kid born and raised on it. This is the only rock artist/group I keep up w/. Theyr music can transcend to other tastes of music

AFI rocked big time here but they still do rock big time. AFI is AFI and all fans should accept all of the music AFI is preforming for "us". AFI's album crash love which was out on september 29 is sorta pop rock but hey they are still a great band. LOVE YA AFI!

regarding everyone who utters the word sell-out: while Black Sails is the pinnacle of pure musical expression, think of all the impurities that music today forces upon its artists. in order to get any airplay at all bands must subscribe to the way of the sheep; which demand predictable, American Idol like, generic, kareoke trash. So, compared to a Daughtry album, be satisfied with December Underground and Crash Love...because, in comparison, it's some of the last real fucking music left.

disagree with me if you like but understand one thing; AFI DID NOT SELL OUT. Davey and Jade wanted to take the band in a new direction. Their punk stuff was amazing, sure, but their newer, darker, kind of music is good. It has a very unique sound and honestly, the lyrics are much less childish. That's what they did. They didn't sell out. They grew up.

Black sails reigns. It's such a tight album in every way. Davey's vocals were top notch. Sing the sorrow would actually be tied with shut your mouth.. They grew up on that album significantly. The instrumentals are very dynamic compared to their older albums. Also, Crash love - The songs are good.. but are missing something.

I can see why people like this album more than some of their new stuff. Davey's vocals are more original and the music is less mainstream.
The only problem is that some of their old stuff is that it emits a "cheesiness" factor," heard mostly in the backing vocals.

I got into AFI at like sing the sorrow times (which is personally my favorite afi record) and i bought Art of Drowning later and love it.
So ive tried to listen to black sails but srsly, this jst aint very gd music. His voice gets annoying, cnt relly understand the lyrics, the guitar riffs are kinda stupid and off time.
I dnt get why everyone loves this but hates new-school AFI. Dnt get bummed out about this comment, im jst sayin in my opinion yo

The style present on Art of Drowning is very similar to Black Sails. The only difference is the differing themes i.e. Black Sails being a little more upbeat than the despair heard on the Art of Drowning. Other than that, they're very close stylistically.

Its not his fault. In one of the interviews the band addmit that they have 'grown up' as there old stuff was fast and agressive. Im a12 girl and i have only heard there new stuff. but there old stuff kicks ass!

it wasn't jade's fault, the band decided they were bored of writing the same music over and over, after all there was 4 albums of the same stuff, as Davey himself said in the KROQ interview in 2008 he said they were simply bored of playing the same music. Now they change and try whatever the fuck they feel like. So don't give me that bullshit.

it's not on all hallows at all. but its an ill song. if you like this go listen to danzig's mother, or danzig's devil's plaything. I'm pretty sure devil's plaything is where afi took their name from but i havent checked if the dates match up yet. idk... listen to danzig if you like afi. it's where this feeling you get that we don't know how to explain orriginated. (misfits actually but its more so present in danzig (they have the same singer he just didnt like the misfits so he left em))
