Great to hear from Artie Malvins son.Your dad was a key component in this wonderful organisation and you must be quite rightly very proud. One of the greatest features of You Tube is hearing from family members of these legendary performers.Sad to consider that so few of these wonderful artists are still with us.So far as I know the bands bass player Trigger Alpert is still with us,also a couple of the bands arrangers.Irreplacable to a man.Wonderful!!
I wondered wether this rare film would ever see the light of day.As I understand it (from a person many years ago who was in a position to say for certain), this film is 30 minutes long in total.15 minutes has sound and the remaining 15 is silent. What a shame that the American government did'nt have the foresight to at least preserve a little of this unique orchestra for future generations to marvel at.Thanks for a great posting.
When I was assigned to Hq US Euopean Command, Patch Barracks, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, GE. I worked in four exercises at RAF High Wycombe, in the remodeled Pine Tree facility.. When the contractors first went in to the facility, there were still maps on the walls from the last bomber runs into Germany. It was rumored that a ghostly figure wearing a bomber jacket and a "50 mission Crush" hat had been seen.
The clips you've posted are great. You may be interested to know that the music at the start of this clip, before the band launches into St. Louis Blues March is a song written by my father Artie Malvin. The opening tune on this clip is from a recruiting song that Glenn Miller ordered my father to write. The song is called Join The WACS, Take A Crack At The Axis. The one line that I remember is "and she had the chassis that made Lassie come home, on the double."
Farrrr out, If you'd like Miller fan and Audio/Video enginner to give these films new sparkle just message me, would LOVE to help
