  • I bought the bixler as a kit (foam plane only) I will be putting my own stuff in it. I want to use it for FPV, should I use a 1200kn motor or 2400kv? Im looking to save battery life for longer flight times.

  • Is ur last name merry if it is am i related to u

  • Sure, you can use a 6x3 prop if you want. It might not give you as much thrust as a 6x4, but it will still fly fine.

  • hey bro!

is an 6x3 prop allowed for the sky surfer?

  • @mmerry2 - great videos! What are the servos like? I am thinking about replacing prior to glueing fuse together.

  • @lumeah4 The stock servos in the Sky Surfer and Bixler are both terrible. I've had mine fail and a friend had his fail and crash his plane, so I would definitely change them out from the start. The HXT-900 servos work well enough.

  • A few more questions, I was looking at rcgroups web site and trying to find out where you hook in the 3m hooks to secure the wings and where do you place the rubber bands? Do the rubber bands go through the area for the wings or does it go under the wings? Also is the prop on RC foam the right 6X4E the right replacement? I want to make sure and hoping it is so I can just but the CF and prop from one place. Thanks

  • @Oldmanboats Prof100 describes how to place the 3m hooks. I'll add a link in the video description. The rubber bands just go under the wing. I use 2 rubber bands for the left and 2 for the right. The right-side bands hook on the hook on the right wing, go under the wing and then attach to the dowel on the left side. The "TGS Sport 6 x 4E" prop from RCFoam is right. Ebay has props also, search for "6x4e prop".

  • @mmerry2 I recently got 3 APC 6x4E Props(as per part 2 of video) for my sky sufer and there is a clearance problem with the prop hitting the fuselage. Stock prop is a 5 in. do I need to order a different size? does anyone have a suggestions?

  • @HAL2170 That's unusual for this plane. A 6" prop should clear the fuse ok. Measure it to make sure it is only 6". Also, is the motor angle correct? It should be facing upward slightly. I've damaged my SS around the motor area once, it changed the motor angle and then it stared hitting. Also, make sure prop is closer to end of the shaft and not closer to the motor. The type of prop collet can help get the prop further away from the motor. Post on rcgroups thread for more help.

  • @mmerry2 Thanks for the quick response, it's actually 6.18. I just got the plane and haven't flow it yet because it's an arctic tundra outside here in Ohio. The motor looks to be angled properly. I tried to put it close to the end of the shaft and it still hit. I will try your sugg. on rcgroups. I can always fly with the stock prop. can you recommend a different size?

  • I have been using your video as a guide of things I need to get before I get my Bixler. I have looked up the rods on rcfoam.com and want to make sure I am getting the right ones. I see the one that says 5.0mm X 1000 mm. Is that the right one. Also, what 3 or 4 mm tube do I need? Sorry very new to this and want to make this enjoyable. Thanks

  • @Oldmanboats Here is the carbon fiber you need:

To reinforce the wing spar, get a 4.5mm x 2.5mm x 1000mm tube. It will fit inside the stock spar which has an ID of 4.75mm.

For the fuse bottom, get a 3mm x 1000mm rod. I've used the tubes for these before and they've gotten crushed.

For the tail get a 3mm x 1000mm rod. You will have some extra left over from this.

If your plane is ever totally destroyed, cut out the CF and save it for reuse in another plane.

  • you want to keep the stock prop if your a learning how to fly and its funny how everyone is crying how it is flexing in flight its not a sport flyer you can put tape on the wings but my first flight of it was good no problems

  • Hello, I was wondering how you would go about removing the prop adapter as I have tried for many hours and failed. Thanks!

  • @lpbug I would try this: 1) put a little oil or WD-40 on the shaft it run down into the prop adapter and loosen it. 2) put some needle nose pliers on the shaft and rock against the top of the motor to pry the prop adapter off.

  • hello, what about cutting or flattening wings to remove the dihedral?

  • @tenrazo215 No. As long as you are using the stock motor and ESC, it will stay within their current limits.

  • change the spar or the wings will flex. try flying it on windy days or do loops and rolls. do a high speed pass and turn sharp left or right. the wings flex and the plane starts to dive. pull up on the elevator or crash dive. haven't crashed mine yet till i strengthen the winds and change the spark. that sucks. bought the plane to fly not to buy spars or clevises and rods for the plane to fly. it should fly without modifications. i'm frustrated with my bixler. wish i never bought it.

  • Hey, are you using an EMP 6x4E prop? the APC is usually Grey.. I got an EMP 6x4E and 6x5E prop.. Will it work the same? plz reply...

  • @youronlycow EMP is better than APC because EMP doent have much torque roll like the APC

  • I just saw the answer, I watched it earlier today and forgot about that part!!! THANK YOU for posting all thsi knowledge for free. I think I'm going to dedicate the rest of my life to helping others free of charge and it was because of your post!!!!

  • @BrianArtea LOL

  • Do you have another solution for the propeller for the Sky Surfer? I put the propeller on the Sky Surfer both ways and it still blows the wrong way. I blew all the transmitter stuff and bought all new electronics basically for it because I wasn't sure what I damaged and they had no instructions on how to hook everything up to the receiver because I just started.

Thank you for your video and explaining all the stuff. I'm very thankful for people like you who post videos to help others.

  • One more thing I did, foamie wing surfaces are stiff and draw heavy on the battery. I always cut the ailerons, elevator and rudder from their respective mates, then cut and install Dubro plastic hinges. This provides a very smooth movement and lowers the drain on the battery.

  • @cherokeenut Good idea. I bought some of these hinges and can't wait to try them.

  • Hi!

I found your video **very** useful.

I'm new in RC and I ordered this plan. This video helps you to be much confidence in each step.

    Thx again!

    Moshe
