  • Dude the music makes me feel that I'm alone defending Jerusalem alone against 10 thousand crusaders , this is just a tutorial :P *helpful one*

  • is there a link just to download the music without the hassle?

  • it crashes when i get to the 3rd voice

    btw i have windows 7

  • @GamerKayak mine did to u have to put the xid.dev file with it but mine never makes the folder it just says done and thats it

  • TYVM MAN TYVM!

  • Thanks ! For Windows 7, use CtGunny method, it works :)

  • Thanks! Now I can compile the tunes for my iPod.

  • Project Reality Soundtrack! Fucking A!

  • Worked like a charm. Many thanks for this.

  • Does this work for Empire, Napoleon, or Shogun 2?

  • wow you guys are geniuses!!! Im considering using the MT2 music for a shooting video :D

  • If you are using Vista, the extracted files are in

    AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/data/sounds/data/sounds/music.

AppData is in your User Folder (With the Document folders etc.)

You will need to enable hidden files to view your AppData folder

    To enable AppData

    1. Click the Start Button and go to Control Panel

    2. On the left side panel select Classic View

    3. Select Folder Options

    4. Go to the view tab

    5. Under Hidden files and folders, check Show

  • @AqworldsWiki

This works for Win 7 too.

  • For those using Windows 7:

    1)right click xidx.exe

    2)click properties

    3) go to "compatibility"

    4) check the box saying

-"run this program in compatibility mode for"

    5) choose the "windows xp (service pack 3)" option

Doing this will work for those who use Windows 7.

  • idk about u guys but it work and ITS FREAKING ALSOME thanks TotalWarEra

  • I know I could just look into the coding but is it possible to make it ONLY extract the music.dat files, not the voices too?

  • @angryboy2k9 I guess it's possible, but I think it's easier to delete what you don't need.

  • @TotalWarEra Yeah probably xD I did that actually. I also extracted the skeleton meshes. Not entirely sure what they are formatted as though, I converted them to NIFs and opened one in Morrowind Construction Set (Bethseda are VERY emphasising on modding xD) but it just said it was an invalid format or something.

Be nice to have more than ten units fighting without lag though, and I'd think these meshes/animations would do the job nicely.

  • @ugamum ah yes, that could be causing problems. But I can't really help you because I don't have win7 myself =/.

  • @ugamum hmm, that's pretty strange, you're doing this on vista?

  • @TotalWarEra Same here, mine is Sega/M2TW/data/sounds

  • @ugamum you have to use the unpacker in the data/music folder in your medieval 2 folder.

  • @ugamum it should have created a folder in your music folder called 'data'.

  • thanks

  • @Vistariel thanks this helped a lot!

  • I have a problem: the program keeps crashing! Is this due to my vista operating system?

  • @EagleOneoOne yh probably, I don't think vista really likes bat files...

  • And there is no such folder called "music" inside the "sounds" folder. Help!!!

  • and also where do you extract it too?

  • @lordofthenachos it should create a new folder with the extracted music in it.

  • i've managed to get to step 4 but when it comes to extracting the files in voice3 it just stops had doesn't do anything, and then this thing comes up and says press any key to continue so i do and it then just disappears and then there is no music and i got to run it again. CAN YOU HELP ME?!!

  • @alio29nov yh, I got the same errors, I think this only really works for the songs of M2.

  • @TotalWarEra so what should i do?

  • @alio29nov I have no idea. I know that when I was doing this the first time, I tried to find other ways to extract it, but they all failed. You could try google again, there might be something by now =).

  • @TotalWarEra it's ok. i read Vistariel's comment and tried it and it worked. thanks =)

  • is it possible to upload music for game?

  • yes, I uploaded all the songs from medieval 2.

  • Thankyou so much for posting this, for anyone else that reads this the exact same process applies for RTW. ;)

  • and also when i open the extract_sound, it opens a dos window written in it, "the command promt has been disabled by your administrator, press any key to continue" and then when i press anykey it closes, nothing else. what do i do ?

  • log in as administrator and change your rights, nothing else you can do.

  • where is this *.rar file?... cant find it anywhere

  • might be zip file, not sure. it's the file you download from that site.

  • hi I've just tried using this to extract MW2 music exactly as you said but it gets so far through extracting and just suddenly stops working,,,with a big "IDX extracter has stopped working" thing from windows...erm helpppp

  • are you using vista?

  • windows 7

  • hold on I'll send you a private message.

  • It all works perfectly, right up until the point where im supposed to get the "Data" File. It just doesnt show up... do i need to do something extra, ive followed the intructions carefully... 'elp!

  • 'data' is a folder, it's located in the folder where you installed Medieval 2.

  • Very useful my man, cheers!

  • When that black screen came out and it started extracting it stopped working correctly and closed. What do I do?!!?!

  • It worked perfect. thanx a lot dude!

  • unfortunately i didnt understand anything

  • Is there an alternative method? This doesn't seem to work on Vista.

  • not as far as I know. I guess you need to be on an administrator account to do anything on vista, but that's about all I know.

  • whats rar?

  • google it =).

  • okay mate

  • but where is the rar file located at?

  • it's the file you download from the link in the description =).

    Failed to open voice2.idx

Failed to extract idx pack voice2

    ...

    etc

    Do you have any suggestions?

  • What the hell is with the link? I follow it, press 'Download' and all there is is a 35 KB .htm file. D= Help, please.

  • strange, when I click download I get a zip file with the extractor.

  • hey this wont make my game lose its sounds and music right? i just want to make a copy of the music and keep all the files as they are

  • it will just make a copy, music will stay.

  • @TotalWarEra The music didn't stay when i extracted Third age total war's music. :(

  • i extracted but i don't know where the folder is
