  • NYEHEHEEEE!

  • Adolf Pilate)))) I'm a viewer from Ukraine

  • 0:24 Voldemort?

  • he sounds like an angry, constipated nazi ...

  • @Kebabush absolutely true, but I think he is still quite awesome

  • @dobbylovergirl12 indeed, he is. But I think the higher voice of the other one is better :/ nonetheless, an awesome performance ^^

  • 1:39

is that such a tragedy that jesus has to go to herod?:D

    the woman seems quite shocked

  • @abelcsabai In the Bible, Herod was prejudiced against Jesus because people thought He was John the Baptist (whom Herod had killed). The woman was obviously afraid that He wouldn't be able to be tried fairly by Herod.

  • Do you think Glenn Carter needed a towel for this scene?

  • Yay! General M Bison versus Jesus Christ!

  • Why have they done this to Jesus Christ superstar?!? It was so beautyful... :(

  • I probably would have pissed myself at 0:54

  • Comment removed

  • He reminds me of Serj Tankian :')

  • furer

  • La hermosa potencia de la voz humana. Excelente!

  • Wonder if the 1995 version of Richard III had an influence on the costumes in this production? Seems like the same neo-Fascist, Black Shirt type thing going on here.

  • @Vercingetorix2006 Romans? Fascists? Nope I can't see that? :)

  • best pontious pilate on film :p

  • la weá penca

  • Holy shit! He is one intimidating person D: I would be scared by him if this was me :/

  • Robert Trujillo vs. Dave Mustaine ;)

  • THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BUT MORE CARTOONY

  • nazi roman!

  • Fred Johansson FTW ! ^^

  • It's kinda a bit to over the top to make sense to most viewers, but this Pilate is trying to show his authority by being over the top and growling etc. Dont forget, earlier in the show he dreamed about this man. He's trying to satisfy the crowd's bloodlust by being all nasty, then offload him to Herod so he doesn't have to deal with him. It's all an act.

  • @TehMagicLlama

THAT was a great explanation. thank you

  • they are all gays. I also like the part "YOUUUUUUUUUU DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP IN-A TUH-RRRRRRRRRRRROUBLE! FUH-RENDDDDD" It's so ridiculous that I can't stop laughing!

  • What the fuck am I watching? O_o

  • Fred Johansson! :D

  • Best Pilate ever. You have to remember that the Romans were not subtle at all when it came to intimidation. The real Pontius Pilate would be like this.

  • LMAO..What a horrible pilate he sounds like he got a stick in his ass and that guard looks like voldemort and jesus looks like tarzan....yuck

Jesus Christ original movie is like Coca cola noting beats the original!

  • Wow, the original was SOOOOOOOOOOO much more subtle, and therefore, MUCH more threatening. This one is kinda fun though...

  • PLEASE GOD (lol) GO BACK TO THE NICE QUITE PONTIOUS PILATE!!!! AAAAAAHHHH!

  • press 1 to hear what pontious' favorite movie is :D

  • 0:25 It's Voldie!

  • I love this version and Pilate, so different from the first one and still so good, with an amazing voice!

  • ... Goosebumps all the way through! Such a rich deep voice pilate has! A really good actor. So is the actor who plays Jesus.... putting through getting shouted out like that! Great resiliance. ^^

  • his voice went from baritone to fucking bass.

  • How did Andrew Lloyd Webber let this movie happen?

  • i don't like this version at all

  • i like this man, he has a voice like Brian Blessed very powerful very commanding

  • I noticed that when Johanson sings 'deep in trouble friend' some spittles escapes his mouth causing Glenn to squint. I like his outfit and voice but his acting's a bit exgeggerated

  • Comment removed

  • Pilate looks like a SS officer and his voice is annoying!

  • i really don't like this version of the movie

  • i think it's not overacted... this movie (with all its tools) is extremely superfocused, and his acting totally fits it...

  • i think he's awesome!

  • i love the contrast in the original pilate to this pilate, totally M.Bison! awesome!

    .....Pontius Bison!

  • Lame Pilate. Totally missed the character. Pilate wasn't a facist storm trooper. Too bad, this version has much to commend it, ( Rik Mayall as Herod kills it! ). But Pilate and played here, nope. Not there - at all.

  • @ChynaRider Rik Mayall did a much better job than anyone.

  • @ChynaRider I have to agree with you somehow but I don't think it is that bad, the original (camp, smug, arrogant) Pilate of the original film is still the best ever!

  • @ChynaRider Jesus as Herod kills it? Fuck you in the face hole.

  • @ChynaRider I mean Rik Mayall and you know it! Rik Mayall as Herod kills it? Fuck you in the face hole.

  • Roman Nazis?hahaha

  • This film is a travesty. How anybody who has watched the fantastic 1973 Original film can enjoy this load of bollocks is beyond me !!!

  • Well, it's overacted, but it's entertaining.

YOUUUUUUUUUU DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP IN-A TUH-RRRRRRRRRRRROUBLE! FUH-RENDDDDD. always makes me LOL.

  • 1:09 LOLOLOLOL

  • my favorite Pilate....

  • Pilate does not actually have a bad voice, and he sounds really ominous, which I like, but I still very much prefer Barry Dennen in the 1973 film.

  • Agreed. This Pilate (Fred Johansen) has a better singing voice than Barry Dennen, but Dennen's voice-acting is far superior.

  • these comments make me giggle

  • Please stop shouting at me and actually sing. Kthxbai. -_-

  • M. Bison!

  • @derubermax LMAO!!!

  • Is it just me or does Pilate look really like a Nazi?

  • I liked the shit eating face the origina Pilates l had in the original one had XDD but as I expected, the feeling of the original is gone in the later version. I realy felt the despise and such he had towards jesus during this song in the original that I dont feel in this. In this it feels more like just... akting. but I will watch the whole movie before compleateley condamning this one.... TO HELLL!!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!! (listening to rocky horror music right after said this XDD )

  • Nice voice, but the 1972 version is superior by far

  • I hate this version. The other songs are fine, but I stiill prefer the original.

  • I hate this version. The other songs are fine, but I stiill prefer the original.

  • Wow, this version is terrible. With the possible exceptions of the Priests. They did it quite well.

  • best pilot ever, the original, was such a little wine ass this guy had everything command and presence that andrew l w needed from the role

  • This guy is a whole lot worse than the original pilate

  • pilate looms like he is from a porn-movie

  • @TheDaveyMoore You would know >.o

  • I get chills from his performance

  • OMG! It's Tom of Finland Pilate!

  • i loooove this part too. that guy is good. :-) how he keeps spitting at him when he's talking to him LOL!!!!!

  • So....Pilate is M. Bison.....and Annas is Lord voldemort....

I'm not even trying to exaggerate the costume choice here....this is WHAT they both look like. All the while the poor actor playing Christ is like "Please....stop spitting in my face....chew the scenery all you want, but my face doesn't have windshield wipers, asshole."

Seriously, t-RRRRUUBULL! at 1:11 .... how can ANYONE keep a straight face for that? TRRR--UUUBBBULLLLL!!!

  • He looks like Bison from "Street Fighter"...

  • Fred really seems to like words with the hard T

  • Damn, why can't I ever get enough of Fred Johanson? Seriously.

  • i perfer the pilate and chirst from the orignal, simply because it gave me more of a twisted justice feeling

like a perverse logic, taht pilate beleived in this one is still a great song, but the old one is much more creepy and eerie

  • Pilate is real Black Overlord

  • Best Pilate EVER of any JCS version, including the original!

WOW, what an amazing voice and a just as powerful presence!!!

    WOW WOW WOW!!!

  • @svenerlandson TOTALLY!!!!!!! EVIL voice!!!!

  • I swear to god, this pilot scared the shit out of me!

  • ....He looks like a nazi Uu however, I love him *^*

  • I don't like this Pilate :(. I love the guy who says "someone Christ kind of the Jews", he looks like Voldemort :D

  • @1catholicchick I agree the other one was a little better

  • @1catholicchick annas :D

  • @1catholicchick lmfaooo he really does!!!

  • @1catholicchick this "Pilate" is very hysterical.

  • Very stylish and strong scene

  • M. Bison was in Jesus Christ Superstar?

  • His handling of the song from 0:55 to 1:18....sheer genius!

  • since when was Pilate an officer in the SS?

  • @Indecisive1858 I guess to drive the point home..lol

  • la verdad es que no me gusta esta versión de la opera Rock.Me parece que hay escenas donde se debió poner más fuerza y en otras no.la escena del juicio de Pilatos es una exageración , esta llena de excesos.Prefiero la versión original.

  • Please don't be offended, but I prefer Barry Dennen's version. Especially at 1:43 . Great version anyway.

  • omg..the older version is much better, then this guys in, well..OLDER uniforms...

  • i swear in this film Mary is like the same age if not younger than Jesus - wtf happened there??

  • god, he's scary!!!!!

  • Это что за пропаганда???

  • This is a really, really interesting take on Pilate. He's freakishly aggressive, which is a huge juxtaposition to the calmer but more shrewd Pilate from the original film. I prefer the original, but I like this one as well. He really looks intimidating.

  • Comment removed

  • Interesting how Pilates' uniform looks very similar to the SS uniforms from the Third Reich.

  • shit pilate is damn sexy

but anyway the 1073 version is king!!!

  • The original has so much more soul and meaning.

They seem to have gone a little over the top trying to make it more contemporary.

  • Each to their own.

  • Wonderful Jesus, Terrible Pilate.

  • Sorry, this Pilate is stilted, pathetic, affected, unnatural. He really plays up. It is just my opinion.

Jesus should have serious face IMHO. This guy is handsome if you like this type, but I can not imagine the highest (absolute) moral authority like him. I am not a believer, but... This Jesus seems little bit narcissistic to me.

  • if this pilate is coming towards me i just starting laugh on the floor

(sorry for the english im hungary)

  • @gtabest4 im thirsty

  • PATETIC PICTURE!!

  • haha this pilate is funnny!

  • wow, i personally prefer the 73 version in all ways, but this pilate represents authority in a better way

  • boring

  • Don't knock the SS style. It's Hugo Boss. (Wikipedia is your friend.)

  • Seriously, Pilate looks like M. Bison from the Street Fighter series by Capcom. Actually a friend of mine watched this with me and swore Capcom did half the costume designs. :/

I like this version the best, though.

  • i like more the very old version of JCS way back in 1970s....

  • i kinda like it that the voice if so strong!

  • Costume inspired by Nazi military uniforms.

  • @acla9000 true but amazing :D

  • @ArdLeiter That's right, very creative.

  • @acla9000 That's what it definitely is, I can confirm this as a german myself.

  • I can't stand a Negro SS Pilate. Sorry. He's too grotesque.

I loved Barry Dennen. He was so scared and histerical... you just KNEW he had no choice. This Pilate is powerful. This Pilate is inhuman.

  • this version is so utterly inferior to the 70s version. what is remotely compelling about this acting?

  • Man,,, Pilate (Fred Johnson) is scary.great casting and great voice!!!

  • Johansson is one of my favorite stage actors! :D

  • I love his faces!

  • Haha, it's funny. Because pilate sings verry low. And then comes Annas. Hihi!!!

  • i think the original is way way better in every way it gave u the chill and the feeling of the threat

  • @mattjackson91 i agree!

  • what a voice!

  • DAAAAAAAAAMN!

  • Pontius Pilate was actually of Scottish decent.

Frankly, this version of JCS is in my opinion the very best. Fred Johanson's portrayal of Pilate is both powerful and absolutely an emotional masterpiece.

  • robert ... please pass the crack

  • Oh no! The police uniform no! X°D hell, I try to make me like this, but it seems like anyone in this movie is overacting...

  • I think it seems that way because they are filming a stage production. Most actors exaggerate on stage so the entire audience can understand the words, emotions, etc.

  • hahaa...

    M.BISON :P

  • Awesome!

  • although i'm not a fan of the 2000 version, but i kinda like this Pontius. 1:00 is quite nice. and of course, the nazi thing is a bit funny ;]]

  • I don't like this pilate interpretation at all...barry dennen of the version of 1973 was much more better

  • This interpretation of Pilate is so different that its almost abrasive, I still like it, but I think you just can't go wrong with the '73 version of Pilate who had a more imperial, snooty british sort of attitude

  • so when was Pontius Pilate a Nazi......the coats...and the hats...really lol YES THE NAZIS KILLED JESUS lol

  • I'm pretty sure those uniforms are supposed to be mimicking soviet uniforms.

  • Barry Dennen was also good, in 1973, (by the way, Tarantinomaniac, this is Pontius Pilat, not Caiaphas), but i like this Pilat also.

  • Best Pilate ever!

  • Mmm, I must say, the Pilate in this version is extraordinarily hot, not matter how...intense he can get.

  • I agree! Fred Johansson YES! XD

  • the 1973 is better but this is still cool i like jesus in the bible said that jesus god dont whant jesus die but he had to to sive us bye

  • ilet remindes me of a nazi offcer

  • His voice is so cool.

  • this whole leathers thing is kind of funny.

  • I wish they wouldn't have lip-synched the vocals have way more emotion than they're showing.

  • Rob Fowler was the best Pilate.

  • rofl at his face at 0:49 and 1:04

  • i love pilate in this!! hes so powerful.. and if you ever read the bible (i attempt it, not my thing..) then it shows that pilate does want to help jesus, so this pilate does show at the end when he looks around. Great pilate and great jesus. the other version is way to gypsy for me, but everyone to theyre own :)

  • It strikes me that this would what JCS would be like if Brian Blessed was playing Pilate!! Barry Dennen was brilliant and really made the role, so difficult to see anyone else do it justice really! My fav JCS recording was the album versiob with Dennen, Head, Gillan and D Arbo although the original film version was pretty damn good! Totally agree with Eldeecue!!

  • Pretty terrible rendition. M. Bison vs. Jesus!

Christ, I can count the extraneous syllables the dude playing Pilate adds to an given "rrr" sound. William Shatner is gold compared to him.

Pilate is supposed to be a snivelling self important worm with a glimmer of conscience--not....an egotistical actor who thinks this is his is big break so he-better-ham-it-up. This is...embarrassingly bad, and a disgrace to the original work.

  • i love this musical i just cant stop waching it an afect on you so powerful both vertions do

  • fred jhanson is amazing as pilate he brings pilate to life

  • i prefer barry dennen

  • Ah.. Fred Johanson.. is the most amazing Pilate EVERR!! His voice is so amazing! So deep.. powerfull, and authoritive. I personnaly, in my opinion, think that this scene is better than the one from 1973. I love the 73 Version pretty much becuase of Yvonne and Ted Neeley only. Thats about it. This one.. I've looked up to these people ever since I got into theatre. way back when [[ im 16 ]]

Id also like to say.. my SN is really Broadway93babee

My mom was signed on so I took over her account. lol

  • @aunttamib1 um please tell my your joking

  • @aunttamib1 who the fuck cares which sn youre on?????????????

  • I like this pilate, he seemed to fit the lyrics of being a king, in reference to the lyrics " you look so small not a king at all" This dude towers over jesus and his amazing bass voice supports his character. His vocal range in incredible. love it!! I This Pilate is better than the original. I think he played the part appropriately as an annoyed king who didn't want to be burdened with Jesus.

    Thanks for the post.

  • I liked both interpretations of Pontius Pilate. The original seems empathetic; this one is completely different. You're right, too. I love his demeanor. Really makes him seem like a military leader to be feared.

  • Pilate, on of my favorite parts.

  • please leave this up its terriffic thanks

  • I love this Pilate. fantastic
