I know why you're asking, 6990 has a little bit less stream proccessors than 5970 but it's architecture is what makes the card faster than 5970

@george3dmax - Really have you benchmarked a HD5970 overclocked against a HD6990 personally or are you just assuming it is faster. I own HD5970's x2 and I believe they could run with 6990s all day long. Never ASSume that just because something is newer it's better. HD5970 is still one of the fastest graphics vcards on the planet.

@psychowarheadIV because if you have the steam version and do not experience lighting problems , your card runs only on 1 gpu, so you should keep updating your drivers and at the end you should get double performance and maybe a little more. ( double because you use 50% of your card right now :P )
