  • love your realness of how to make a fondant cake, loved the fact that you used straws, wonderful tuitorial

  • Wow ur awesome!

  • what are the straws for?

  • @elaserah The straws are to stop the lower half collapsing under the weight of the top half.

  • The result was gorgeous!!!

  • could you please can give your cake chocolate recipe and if you have white cake too, please.i tried many recipes for a white cake but i don't like it,i apreciate thanks.and you did a great job and thanks to show us how to do it.

  • the only thing i dont like is you didnt really show you doing the things..like you said im going to do this..and it skips to when your done. Otherwise this is the best instructed video iv seen in a while. :) thanks. Im making a 3 Layers Yo gabba gabba cake for my 3 year old sisters bday. :)

  • Hi im baking 2 cakes for saturday and im using marshmellow fondant also, just wondering after you crumb coated the cake with buttercream did you refrigerate it or just let it sit out?and does it have to be hard before you put fondant on?

  • @MagyMom2 There is no need to refrigerate the frosted cake unless your kitchen is very warm and you are having a problem with the frosting "melting". If you do refrigerate, you may have excessive condensation after taking the cake out of the fridge, so I would try to avoid it. Some people prefer to wait a little while after frosting to apply the fondant. I generally do it right away.

  • Yay! Clear and concise instructions with good camera angles. Thanks xox

  • wow not bad very nice what is the size of both of yr round tin ??

  • Great job! I really enjoyed watching all three tutorials, now let's have another one!! Also, I would have to agree with tgarza9090, the cake is too nicely done for just plain cardboard, FYI, next time you might want to cover it with foil wrap, again, great job,

  • u did a good job on that cake ! now i no how to do them thnx :)

  • I really enjoyed watching your 3 videos. I see you don't have ALL the tolls to work with fondant like ME but you inspired me to do it my self without spending a lot on getting all to work with the fondant. Thank you very very much!!! =)

  • I forgot, the only thing I didn't like was the base for the cake. haha You could covered it with a pretty paper =)

  • The best tutorial ever! Thank you so much. You made it looks so simple! Now, i am ready to try it for myself.

  • @dreamingfairytales I knoooow right!! Lets do it!! I was not sure on making my son's 1st birthday cake but after watching this cake I see is simple without having all the expensive tools to work with fondant =)

  • i love it is complete...you explain it so perfect very neat..thank you

  • Using straws as dowels instead of wood is a good idea! didn't even think about it.

  • Why do you need to put straws in the cake?

  • wow...this was by far the best fondant cake tutorial.... :) im totally gunna try this :) ....btw....where can i get the fondant making stuff??

  • What happens when you cut into the cake and there's cardboard in the middle? :O

  • @massiveeater you serve the top layer. Remove the piece of cardboard, then serve the bottom layer.

  • @massiveeater When they are finished with the cutting of the cake ceremony at a reception, they dismount the layers of cake before slicing the cake.

  • love this video, you explain everything so very well.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this! I made one for my sister's birthday last week and it turned out great

  • I really enjoyed watching your video of your cake process, But I was disappointed that you dont have more cake videos. I would have watched if it kept going. I loved it! Your fondant application is better than mine and I have been doing this for years. Please post more.

  • @raneishaw Thanks! Truth be told, I've only made one or two cakes since I recorded this video series, so there hasn't been much to document. I wish I had more time. As you saw from my other videos, I am mostly an electronics/mechanics guy, but I think making cakes is fun too.

  • Great job !!!

  • Did you leave the cardboard under the cake when you stacked it?

  • @29jmac Yup.

  • Congrats on the new house the cake came out awesome! Thanks for the video :)

  • You seem very practical and down-to-earth. Thanks for this, this was just what I was looking for.

  • wow thank you so much for the tutorial, ive never made a fondant cake or any kind of fancy cake before so this makes it very easy to follow.

hopefully i can make a lovely graduation cake for my brother, thanks again.

  • Awesome fondant tutorial! This is the first one I've seen that didn't make me head for the hills! I can't wait to give it a whirl. I'm hoping to make my baby's first bday cake with fondant. Thank you so much!!

  • full professional ;)

    I like it!

  • Thank you for this tutorial on how to make a fondant cake! I really enjoyed it, it explained everything I needed to know and I loved the fact that you didnt have to use all those fancy utensils that you see in other videos! Thanks again! :o)

  • why do u have to put in the straws? at 3:05

  • @funnystrawberry100 They prevent the top tier of the cake from sinking down in to the bottom tier.

  • so in my hour long internet gorge on my whimsical desire to build a fondant... this was by far the best and most informative presentation on how to build a cake. Thanks a lot!

  • This was really great! I enjoyed how every step was easy to follow! :)

  • congratulations! You 're great and so was the cake, learned more from you than from the many pretention tutorials. Thank you so very much.

  • You completely rocked this out!! I learned so much from your video and can't wait to apply these steps to my nieces graduation cake!! Thank you so much!

  • You completely rocked this out!! I learned so much from your video and can't wait to apply these steps to my nieces graduation cake!! Thank you so much!

  • Great tutorial, I already baked the cake and was looking for ways to put on the fondant and liked this video better then others, especially since the use of very simple household items!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! My mom and I are going to try making my wedding cake, and you do such a good job of showing everything step-by-step! What a nice end result!

  • aww that came out nice!

  • really great tutorial it was really helpful gave me a better understanding how i want to approach my cake project! great way of using "simple" tools without spending a ton on cake equpiment!

  • Thanks for your help!! I made my first fondant cake and it came out good!! I made it for my husbands BDAY!! Your way it simple and fun!! Thanks a lot!

  • That cake looks amazing !

  • Where did you find that rolling pin?

  • @staceya0716 It's actually just a random piece of acrylic tube. It doesn't work very well as a rolling pin, so I wouldn't recommend it.

  • so did you use just regular cardboard for the bottom or did you actually buy the special ones? (i'm trying to learn how to bake so i'm a complete noob lol)

  • @hijakaftoyl The regular cardboard works, but only once. It gets saturated with oil and water from the cake and starts to disintegrate. I ended up cutting my own cake boards from plastic which can be washed and reused. Commercial cake boards would be great too.

  • thanks alot for the full tutorial. its really helpful to see it from start to finish

  • Wow thanks for complete tutorial, I'm gonna try this soon, after I get all of the ingredients :D

  • FINALLY!!!! A FULL TUTORIAL!!!!THANK YOU THANK YOU for being so generous! ^_^

  • I'm really excited to try this, I have a piano one in mind, seems simple enough.

I have two questions, did you leave the cardboard in under the cakes even after you put the straws in them & In some other tutorials I've seen they "paint" water onto the cake before putting the fondant onto it.. does the two layers of icing make up for this step?

  • @52Ree Yes, the cardboard stays under the cake at all times. If it's still in good condition after the cake is eaten, use it for your next cake. The pro cake boards are plastic coated and easy to clean. You may want to paint or spray water on your cake before applying fondant if you are worried about the fondant sliding and not sticking to the buttercream. This might happen if you frosted the cake many hours before applying fondant and the frosting has dried out and semi-hardened. Good luck

  • If if make those mini wedding cakes, will I have to cover both with fondant and stack them up together? Or will I just have to put fondant on the full cake?

  • @cutieputie29 It's usually best to cover each tier with fondant, then stack them as I did in this video. I am sure you can find someone who stacks the cake, then covers with fondant, but that seems much more difficult.

  • @bkraz333 Thank You :)

  • ...you did pretty dang good, dude...^^...I wanna get into making fondant cakes...you make it look simpler than it seems....thx 4 the upload

  • i wnna have a husband who can cook like you O.O

  • after trimming the fondant, how do you fix the trimmed part of it? its not on the video. do i push it beneath the cake or what. get what i mean?? lol

  • @CACA0392 Most cakes are built so that there is another decoration that covers the rough cut edge of the fondant covering. On this cake, I used a simple fondant ribbon (wrapped around the bottom circumference of each tier. You could also pipe frosting, use fondant balls, use an actual cloth ribbon, etc to cover the edge. Good luck

  • @bkraz333 oh thanks a lot for that :)

  • Thanks for replying :)

  • One question, umm how did u stick the fondant ribbons etc on the cake ? Plzz reply thanks :)

  • @aaishal I made a sort of glue out of powdered sugar and water, then applied that glue between the fondant pieces. You can vary the amount of water to create glues of all different consistencies. Good luck!

  • UR cake is cool styll !! Imma try this :)

  • Did you leave the bottom of the straws in the cake while people ate it?

  • @C14R44 Yes, I think people would probably notice if their slice of cake had a plastic straw in it, and avoid eating it.

  • im not an exoert but i do watch alot of these shows on tv.... nd what i have learned is that right after when your done applying the fondant you can wash it off with a wet peice if clothe... also for the decoration fondant and fondant dont stick so make sure to make a mixure or sugar and watter or simple water.... ps great job on the cake...:)

  • i don't get what are the straws for? i mean you don't put straws in the smaller layor?! if u have butter cream why are the straws?....

  • @TheCatlover90 I think (im no way a expert) that the starw are to stop the top cake crushing the bottom cake, and therefore causing the bottom one to dip in the middle, or in one place which would then make the top cake rest askew.

The straws whens vertical are strong so support it.

  • how would you eat of cut this with the card board though..oh n love the cake

  • @brittanyjaculine The top tier is cut into wedges as normal, then the cardboard is removed and the bottom tier is cut into wedges. I would not recommend making a tiered cake without the cardboard and supports.

  • great job! thanks for giving ALL of the steps needed! I searched and searched for someone to give info on how to make a "perfect" cake, how to make the buttercream, and how to make the fondant...but i kept getting bits and pieces! ugh! Ur cake came out great and I hope ur new house is coming along well!

    God Bless!

  • you can also trim the fondant 3:00 with a pizza cutter

  • Cool thx for the help =)

  • I think your cake turned out so good you've done a great job!
