  • loved it. so awesomely clear in terms of explanation - and, importantly - all in excellent taste. I'll try some of this on my bongos-- but I'm sorely tempted to buy a doumbek.

  • How can i do this on table? everybody do it on table what is it called?

    :)

  • budthat was awesome! i liked the comment form the egyptian. Im part arab not in touch with that side though and ive always thought this drum sound was awesome. i always found myself drawn to it. i think you made up my mind to buy one. thanx for sharing, love your video

  • totally inspired!

  • Great to hear! Make sure you check out the Fingers of Fury website then! Enjoy)

  • best darbuka player SETRAK SARKISSIAN the armenian master.

  • Gracias otra vez por tu genial vieo.// thanks again for your great video.

  • Pleasure!

  • i have a question. how long do you think it would take to learn the split finger technique?

  • every technique = a certain amount of hours to obtain it. If you practice a few hours every day then after around a year you will be well on the way. If you just noodle around without practicing properly then you will never get it. Goodluck!

  • They are one in the same. Mother of pearl is just describing the ornamentation on the outside of the drum. It doesn't make one drum sound better than the other. Mother of Pearl Alexandria Doumbeks are more expensive and actually don't have usability as most drums because they are more delicate. Hope this was helpful.

    Drum on!

  • pearl much better =]

  • hi ,, i saw ur videos and they r cool .. but i noticed something ,, which it's u just play the Egyption style,, anyways i suggest to type ابوحيدر or تركي السلامه and u will know more umm let me say strategies,,

  • I have both the 9" and 10" weighted ones. I tend to play the green one the most, thats the 10" one. It is featured on most of the series 2 videos on the Fingers of Fury website. I really like the drum i have to say. Lots of sustain!

  • the one i play here is Alexandria. Its pretty cheap and never really tuned that well. Now days i play the weighted Remo soloist. If i had to choose between the darbuka in this video and a mother of pearl (which will cost a little more) i would go for the mother of pearl by far! Good luck my friend. matt

  • no hay nadie que traduzca lo que dice este hombre, a mi me gustaria saber lo que dice, me encanta el sonido de este instrumento de percusión

  • wow its soo much about the left hand pplaying, thats the hardest for me to master

  • :D nice

  • NICE!!!! THANKS I will now buy that instrument....and also will used it for my INDOOR PERCUSSION, I always wanted to use more non western instruments into this type of performance, check out indoor percussion. We are doing a tittled called "drum circles".

  • Güzel çalıyonda Tipden Kaybediyon

  • wow, thank you soo much, there are great tips in this video...

  • Dude, I hope you are in Sydney as you would be every belly dancer's delight!! Maybe we will see you at the Middle Eastern Dance Festival in 2009!

  • nicee

  • have u seen Rony Barrak shows? tell me what u think :)

  • Thank you for this I absalutley love the Malfuf and this vid has given it some new life for me

I also love that you use an Alexandria just shows that you don't haft to spend 300 or $500 on a drum to get a good sound

  • man! i gave 25 euros for aleksandria tarabuka.... it sounds like thunder....

    dont let them rob you....

  • That's what I was saying I know ppl that insist on getting hi dollar drums but if you take your time and look through the cheaper drums you can find good ones at a good price. Although I didn't get a deal like that I got an Alexandria with inlay for 175 USD

  • spice or space ?

  • Both!!!

  • sounds good to dance too... ur very talented... congrats!

  • IS THE BEST.

    NO CCOOMMEENNTT

  • is the video for the darabuka available in singapore?

  • at the moment i only have a cd with all the rhythms on it. Its there to pay along with or practice soloing over. Its available from my myspace.)

  • hahaha mate your a legend

  • what brand is that darbuka? seems like everyone plays on these.. cheers max

  • Just the cheap Alexandria ones. Nothing special.

  • Браво, бе !

  • yes,i live in Vienna now but i am italian.

I really THANK YOU for your videos 'cause u r the only Darbuka teacher that i know that is able to explain all the "trrrr trrrrr trrrr" in a TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY CLEAR WAY!

If i were closer i would be your student but i am your online studen!

    BRAVISSIMO!

    CIAO

  • U r a GREAT teacher!

    Where do u teach?

  • Thanks for that. I teach in and around Australia. I see you live in Austria? Close by name...not so close in distance! Take care.

  • nice one bruv

  • Cheers cuz

  • Wow I want to buy 1 but I am wondering is hitting with your finger only very diffucilt to get any soud? I mean I am a girl so I probably can not hit that hard? TIA.

  • Hi mahonie77, when you have correct technique you dont have to hit that hard becouse the good technique does the work for you. I must also say that most of my students here are women! goodluck and enjoy!

  • OK thx alot for your answer

  • Help,Pacerman. I just got new drum with the same skin you are playing here, but I have no Dum.My teks sounds okay but dum is DUD. Any suggestions?

  • ok, lets troubleshoot: Often its becouse we sit too close to a wall. This deadens the dum sound. Ive even seen students who are wearing a jacket not even realise that it is hanging behind the opening of the drum and therefor killing the dum! Could you get a nice dum before using this new skin? Let me know.)

  • Thank you for quick reply.

I had no wall behind me in this case, I was in our Office/music room. I just got the drum last Thurs from Isreal. The drum came out of the case sounding Dud,so I took the skin off,put it back on & there was no change. I play mostly the Zills, but dabble on Conga. So I know tension is keen. But I'm not sure how tight is too tigh for a Doumbek. Thank you again :)

  • When you have a low tuned darbuka you will notice a smal gap between the head and the body of the drum. when its tuned high you wont have that gap anymore. Once the gap is sealed then maybe dont tighten it any more. How much was the drum in Isreal? $150 should have got a great drum. let me know. ))

  • that's about the price. I'll check the gap tomm. :)

  • Hey Im just starting out can you tell me which drums I should be aiming for...? Meinl any good?

  • I love how ur fingers just flicker smoothly whilst playing...just bloody fantastic!

  • good

  • Tamam....Ok thank you Matt you do that for me. In the meantime I'll watch your videos and practice the techniques each and everyday after work....thanks again.....PS. I swear your are Turkish..hehe are you?

  • Merhaba Pacerman265...im iyiyim...Sen Turk? Sen konusmak turk peki :) Yapmak sen anlamak beni?
