  • the fact that this hasn't a single dislike says it all really, an important message that needs to be heard by all.

  • c.r.e.a.m.

  • It amazes and frightens me how little understanding there is about the disease of addiction and recovery from it. The comments on this video are a perfect example of what I am talking about. I am a recovering addict and in a few days I will celebrate 23 years clean. I am not a junkie anymore though I still consider myself an addict. There is a vast difference in those two terms. I am working now as an addiction counselor so I continue to see first hand the devastation of this disease.

  • @myhattrick happy 23rd birthday, sorry to say that i have fell back on my old ways but knowing ppl. can gives me hope still

  • John lived it and the Man In Black is still The Sh**!, even though he's not with us any more. RIP, cuz we'll meet again...

  • anything that comes between you and GOD,eventually becomes your "god". keep your peace by keeping JESUS IN YOUR HEART AND SOUL.love honestly and youll know peace.

  • People know drugs are for losers so why the hell do they try it? I don't get it.

  • The fact that Johnny fought the disease of addiction and had the support of a wonderful woman--makes him a luckier man than most. Addiction is hard and his wife recognized his need of support not belittling him. For those who can use whenever they choose, they are very different from a junkie. Instead of judging and belittling each other, listen to the music and find peace and contentment in the moment...

  • whatever all yall.. ive been an addict to alot of things but learned to control it. try reading "diary of a drug fiend" by Aliester Crowley that book taught me alot. you can use in moderation... all yall that disagree just arnt strong enough to do it for yourselves.... i as well as many others have done so to prove this to be fact.

  • @billybadbird867 Aliester Crowley was a Satanist, and is burning in hell right this second. I'd think twice before following advice from Aliester Crowley

  • @RageAgainstNWO not quite a satanist, an occult follower there is really a difference. anyway i dont follow his teachings or any other religions for that matter. my point stands, the book will teach you or anyone who reads it a great life lession. its not all about drug use either its about finding your true will and purpose in this life. really didnt mean to offend anyone just saying i love certain drugs, at one point i couldnt control it, now i can and rarely ever use. its fun when i do tho :)

  • @billybadbird867 i think ur just an idiot lol, look up the definition of addiction

  • if you can "get by" drinking "moderately", just smoking "cigarettes" and/or " pot" then good but keep in mind that you don't have to settle. You can push yourself a little more and get a lot more out of it by taking all of those things from your diet. It isn't easy. You don't see all the benefits or obstacles initially but for the sake of saving money, increasing health, freeing up your time, building better habits and lots more reasons, I think any and everyone could benefit from getting clean.

  • i am 44 and was a very bad junkie when i lived down in indiana. the drugs cost me 2 prison trips totaling a little over 2 years but it almost made me open my eyes so i started selling fentanyl patches and pills but that cost me a trip to jail and almost cost me my wife and my kids. so i did the best thing and am now clean except for alcohol which is another addiction

  • NA is not the answer. There is no easy answer. There are only personal answers. Nothing fits all. You have to find what ever it is that works for you and that's not easy. It might not "agree" with the society in general but that depends on where you live in the world.

  • marijuana ain't shit, alcohol and cigarettes are far worse....but pain killers such as oxycontin, which is synthetic heroin is some real shit....now thats a bad drug, and meth...epidemic ? depends on where u at

  • only someone like johnny who's lived the pain that drugs bring to your life could write a truth like this. I hate the drugs, but sadly i can't quit them.

  • Johnny Cash knew first hand as i myself what hell on earth feels like being chained to a bottle and or drugs.35 years i went through torment that only other alcoholics and addicts can identify with.Im not saying others pain is worse or less as i can't even imagine the torment of being diagnosed with cancer or other illnesses. We all go through something whether we admit it or not.We all are human and need help from others.Thank you Johnny Cash and everyone who tries to help others who suffer.

  • I hope there are plenty of amphetamines for you in hell. RIP Johnny.

  • @AIDSCzar Johnny is in Heaven, fool. He spent his time in Hell here on earth. Plus Sister June came into his life. The Circle will not be broken!

  • i love it...

  • Drugs are for the foolish and trashy. end. of. story.

  • @nickster105 Do me a favor you self-righteous, pompous ASS! just remember not all as perfect as THOU!

  • PILLS ARE DRUGS TO. A JUNKIE IS A JUNKIE! 58 OR 18 !!! I'VE LIVED THE NEEDLE AND THE DAMAGE DONE

  • @GDS4VR Yep,once a junkie,always a junkie. I've lived it,too.

  • pot is for hippies

  • Marijana is not a drug. tylenol is.

  • im never going to smoke again but i have to addmit i know i smoking pot on the same level as shooting dope.

  • @usernameofagod CALL N.A.

  • takes addicted to know and he knew and and blessing if folks just listening before they try it

  • One of the truest songs ever written, very amazing and powerful

  • Very powerful stuff, would it be bad to say im strung out on Johnny Cash?

  • Freedom with dopes is not a freedom.. That freedom with needle , pills or alcohol is very shortly lived. Alcohol and pills drove me to the corner and I could not run anymore. It took 20 years of my life, but now I am really free - I am clean. Thanks Johnny! You were a great and a brave man by giving face to narcotic problems. Even here, in very nothern parts of Scandinavia, narcotics are a huge problem. R.I.P. Johnny. I miss Your kind of brave people.

  • amazing ~

  • the stuff he was addicted to, today be categorized as "farm animal narcotics" but he pushed through, he really is the greatest man ever.

  • @lov2aclr8 he was addicted to amphetamines mostly, which today can be categorized as ADD meds

  • Johnny was clean when he did this song, but no one knew better than him the total destruction that drugs cause,He was a very brave man to publicly admit his level of addiction.God Bless you Johnny Cash.

  • Johnny Cash = The People's Champion

  • He nailed it,and sorry I dont know anyone who goes through the hell of withdraw after quiting weed. This song doesn't even merit a word spoken about it.There is way to big a gap between opiates and weed and the people who made the switch from weed to hard shit sorry that's how some of us are made we need to blast off and rock and roll not groove in a bongo jam session listening to phish or whatever fuckin faux hippie shit that is.

  • pot smoking can take over your life.....don't be fooled. yeah, i've heard all the arguments.....it's not physically addictive, relatively harmless, not as bad as booze, etc. i'm telling you man, that's bulls#$t. for many people, it's no thing. smoke a little in high school or college, then move on. for others, it becomes a psychological addiction. smoking everyday, getting stuck in a rut. it has become super-hip to say pot is harmless. it's not. and after a time you may move on to something worse

  • amaaan oh i mean amen to that

  • These are words that he lived through himself.... He struggled for such a long time with drugs...

  • only sixteen thou?

  • I just played the Hurt karaoke and this video side by side... and it sounds awesome...

  • Johnny tried every drug at the time! So the tune reflected his experience on drugs!

    Amazing song

  • the coolest man ever lived

  • AMAZING!

  • well, you have to remember, johnny was not but maybe 3 years sober.

  • Originally Statler Brothers -words & music by Lew Dewitt

    Love these 2 stanzas

My minds filled with torture, my body's in pain

But the needle is warm as it sinks in my vein

Just a matter of seconds then my mind will be free

From the coldness and darkness that dominate me

But the freedom is short lived and then I'm alone

I must find the pusher but my money's all gone

Then the cycle of horror starts over once more

Oh God let me suffer this misery no more

  • First song I ever heard captures the experience of the cycle of a habit. "But the needle is warm as it sinks in the vein", and how short lived is it's freedom. Then "the moneys all gone", and being sick. Good lament

  • Powerful song!

  • I like Johnny Cash, but I definitely think The Statler Brother's version was better.

  • Wow, I'm still having goosebumps from this powerful performance. You can see/hear/feel that he knows what he's singing about.

Thank you so much for posting this ...

  • Johnny didn't lay on anything thick. He knows what it's about because he struggled with addiction all of his life. His most prolific use of speed and downers was during the early- and mid-nineteen sixties, just a few years before he did this on his television show.

He was on and off pills for a lot of his life, but he stayed clean through his later years.

Rest in peace, John; I hope to see you again some day.

  • WOW, i cant say that truelly regret anything in my life but DAMN had I only heard this song years ago maybe i would have never had to go thru so many horrors Johnny speaks of, well, then again, to be old and wise you must first be young and stupid so evn had I heard this song, I probably would have ignored the message in the sense that , OH HELL, THAT COULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ME...

  • I don't think people should put smoking pot on the same level as shooting dope. Coming from someone who's done both and come through it, I know better.

  • @recaulkulous Johnny Cash was asked how he felt about Marijuana, and he said he didn't know.. He explained he didn't know enough about it to make an informed decision, and to be honest, him saying that in the early 70s when there wasn't much scientific research done on it (and the fact that it was so incredibly looked down upon) was a bold statement. Just the fact that he didn't oppose it 100% alone, shows how intelligent of a man he was.

  • @TransformerslNC Up until his 40's Johnny Cash sucked up, swallowed, snorted and poked more drugs than any 10 poor rednecks from a trailer patch.. The reason he didn't give his opinion about marijuana wasn't cause he knew it was a complex issue, becasue it's not: it makes stupid people stupider, and is far more toxic than tobacco. But Cash knew about 90% of the people who paid him to sing sure as hell didn't love it. So he shut his mouth rather than offend the people who paid the freight.

  • @recaulkulous -I do not think we should publicly support any drugs in a forum like this,as then some get the idea,"well then pot must be ok". I am the last person speak out against anything because I have done enough drugs to kill 10 men...but because of that I have earned the right to say,if you think pot is ok, keep it to yourself. I started out with pot, when I couldn't get any higher I turned to harder things. Pot may be OK if you can control it, but many with addictive personalites can't.

  • @KLUNKET I may well agree with you. Nobody should promote drug use, but the last time I checked I think we still have freedom of speech here in the U.S..

    Have a nice day :)

  • @akbiggy63 -Freedom of speech has nothing to do with what I am saying.I was discussing decency and respect.Johnny wanted this message about drugs to move people, motivate those who have this on thier back to find help.He wanted his message to help people.I think there are plenty of proper places to have the pot discussion, but this isn't one of them.We should respect what he is trying to convey here.I'm just trying to show respect, didn't need to be "one upped" with the "freedom of speech" lecture

  • @KLUNKET

Regardless of what you think is "the proper place" for people say what they want to say doe's not matter. People are going to say whatever they want to say here on youtube, so get used to it. Have a nice day. :)

  • @akbiggy63 - Sadly I already knew that... NOBODY has ANY respect for ANYTHING anymore. So, go disrespect someone else now... and I could care less if you "have a nice day" but I am NOT going to type the words I would like to display how much of a ************* I think you are.

  • @KLUNKET Yeah, nobody has any respect, including you! So quit your belly achin.

  • @KLUNKET Yeah, nobody has any respect, including you! So quit your belly achin.

I think it's hilarious what whiner you are

  • @akbiggy63 -I have respect for everyone, even you- That does not mean I have to like you

  • @KLUNKET I totally agree with that.

  • @recaulkulous - I read the many comments here, & would like the chance to chime in on the pot discussion.Trust me, I have earned the right to say this, drug abuse nearly killed me.For those of us with a severe addictive personality pot can be very dangerous.I started out smoking pot and at first it was great, but over time I just couldn't get high enough. You can smoke pot all day long, but once you reach a certain point you can't go any further. That is when I met oxycottin, then heroin.

  • @MrOldtimeCountry Dope smoking went downhill, the moment SKUNK hit the scene. Fucks your brain, turns you psychotic, aggressive, and anti social. you never get ''high'' on skunk, just away with the fairies. The old weed was best, did the trick, allowed you to get on with life, and the music sounded better. Started on the ''Charlie'', totally wasted all the time. Proper Mother of Pearl, uncut, thought it was the bollocks. Then luckily enough , me brain kicked in. I quit quick. Take Care Mate Eh?

  • i don't know what you're smoking, but the weed is same as it ever was around here.

  • @Djfrenchguy Just read your answer to my comment. I stick by what I say about SKUNKWEED, It's brain damage. If you dont smoke the stuff, then you wont know it's side effects. If you do, then possibly your'e so screwed up in your head, you would'nt know anyway. Proper Jamaican, Nepalese, Thai, African, all natural strains of a lovely smoke, but SKUNK is shit. Take a look around at todays regular users, they hav'nt got the brains of a Rocking Horse. Dead from the brain down. Take Care Eh?

  • @recaulkulous it goes beyond the narcotic vs natural.. if you shoot a bundle a day you have problems...if you smoke a quater ounce a day and your not a rastafarian you have something your running from..some need stronger ways to numb the pain

  • @recaulkulous Would you recomend some one to start?

  • @dumb7890 i would reccomond that every person to experiment with every substance their mind thinks it should or could handle. this song is about ppl who get into shit too much and get chaught in the cycle as i and many others have. dont put any drug down, used correctly and in fair balance all are very good ;)

  • @billybadbird867 are you stupid, just because you think you can handle it doesnt mean you can. too many people i know though they could handle it and now they are hooked anyways. its called fucking addiction. every person is different and there no way to tell if once is too much.

  • @billybadbird867 ur a fucking idiot

  • @recaulkulous ... No offence Friend & I am glad that you are off the hard shit and come through it & just stick with smoking pot, But YOU might be the exception. Stay healthy. ... Mellow Nature.

  • What song came first? This or I Tremble for You? The melody is the same and they share extremely similar lines.

  • sends shivers down my spine

  • This song is titled "The Jukie's Prayer" and was written by Lew Dewitt of the Statler Brothers. Their version of this song can be found on their "Bed of Roses" album from 1972.

  • It sounds exactly like I Tremble For You.

  • Yes, it's the same melody

  • Wow! Such a touching performance! I also like the comment of Johnny, why he perform this on television! He's right! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for sending it to me, my friend.

I agree, this is really touching. He knows so exactly what he's singing about. Johnny never was as down-to-earth and in good shape like during his greatest days: 68-75, for my opinion.

  • You're welcom! Yes right, I agree with you!

  • uh huh huh uh huh uh huh huh huh u said touching u uh huh huh uh huh

  • Wow, great video!

  • I `ve never seen this, thanks for posting. Very cool.
