I can't stand it when more than one drummer is playing at once. Maybe if the others were just holding a back beat. But, to me, it's senseless. I can't hear what each one is doing individually which defeats the purpose of even having them play.

Thomas Pridgen and Tony Royster are not 'gospel drummers'. Their vocabularies encompass far more than what is heard in gospel music.. Growing up in the church, or around people who play that style, does not automaticallly make you a gospel drummer.

Their are a few clips on youtube where you'll see them in the 'Gospel Chops' environment - in which case it'd be understandable that they'd conform to the musical environment they were in at the time.

Neither of the two are limited to that style.

That's true, they both play different styles of music all the time, they don't limit themselves to just one thing which is great to me btw because it shows they have some real versatility and all around musicianship...I just wish Thomas would look a little more professional and actually wear a shirt when he plays clinics or at least one that fits...

no it isn't! ha! do you know anything about gopsel drumming? the types of grooves that can be used in a jam like this can be anything from Songos Cuban rhythms) to double stuff like you see here, funky grooves, literally anything, I don't think you've witnessed/ analysed well... ,much drumming in general
