The beacon atop the War Memorial on Dundee's Law hill ( an extinct volcano 571ft high) remains lit for every second of the 25th day of September every year in silent tribute to the men of Dundee who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Battle of Loos.
Hugh Sweeney, 6th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, June 27th 1916. He was from Derry and the family say he lied about his age as so many others did, so that he could enlist. Tragic waste of young lives.
