Did the car companies MAKE 2010 cars? It sure is baffling for an economy that is anything but in a DEpression (this should be like the start of 1931--ISH)
Most new cars have drive-by-wire crap. That is where you step on the gas pedal and a computer then tells the engine to go faster. Another reason to get a used car.
I've been wanting to get some footage of the empty retail space and homes for sale which have been empty for at least a year now down in Pinellas County here. I just never have my camera with me, and I don't drive around as much as I used to.
Just last night I went to a store I hadn't been to in about 6 months. 90% of the shopping center that was once completely full and thriving is now empty. On the 10 minute drive home I noticed MANY other businesses that are now vacant.
What is happening is at the end of the year, the gov taxes the snot out of every single car a dealer owns, even if they paid the same tax last year. They don't want to have anything thats just going to cost them this tax again.
Thank you for showing the underbelly of our "green Shoots". Folks are not buying cars or anything on credit because they can't get credit. That goes for small businesses (thanks CIT). The truth will be in everyone's face by spring of this year.
Wanna see the 2010 models? Try visiting China. Car sales growth rate in China expanded to 40-50% this year, but expected to fall back to a more normal 10-15% in 2010 as incentives are withdrawn (BBC news). I think the party has moved.
As a follow up, I checked volume. US sales this year expected to come in around 11 million. Compare with China this year expected to reach 13 million.
Quite a contrast with those images of Chinese commuting on bicycles. Now I expect to see more Americans on bikes in the coming years, although they're probably looking for cans to recycle.
Nobody is buying cars because of uncertainty (lack of confidence). Job security and a steady non-interventionist government leads to greater big ticket purchases and to investment capital flow into things like big ticket inventory (availability). You are proving those general statements perfectly. This also creates a barrier to new technology available on the market. Unsold models must move first... and they aren't. Good job on the vid.
They have 2010 models though in the dealerships where Im at, although not that many for trucks. I
Ive found that toyota marks up their nonbase vehicles way too high where Im living. Its cheaper to buy a ford F-150 than their stupid toyota tacoma small truck. Even though everyone says toyotas are cheaper because the stupid toyota dealerships mark up their vehicles way too high. I don't know if its like that everywhere but its like that with the two toyota dealerships in our area.
Happy New Year John, thank you for all the great videos this year. I know 2010 you'll bring even more. Thank you for doing what your are doing and looking out for your community. All the best in 2010!
Happy New Year johnu78! If your going to buy one of these used cars, make sure to check out how there rated in Consumer Reports used car reviews! I don't think the auto manufacturers are making many cars this year. They don't want to have to discount them too much.
You're right. I don't see new car sales in 2010. The only reason they will post "brighter" numbers in January is because of the unemployment extension has been passed an unprecendented 4th time and the USD went up end of 09 because of such high risks in any other US investment sector (madoff-type-frauds 95% of nyc).
That's the biggest thing to watch for in 2010, the value of US dollar simply has to come down because of all the trillions created from thin air in '09. Nobody's fooled anymore.

What's wrong with drive-by-wire? It replaces throttle and cruise control cables, cruise control controllers/motors, and idle air control valves.

those living in the woods of Pasco county just don't have obamo credit worthness, or they would buy a car, and live in it instead of the woods!

Obama's main focus hasn't been on fixing the credit system, rather his focus has been on creating Obamavilles!!!

Cars are so expensive to repair now that a car which should be a bargain as needing a little work, may only draw a few hundred dollars.

Interesting video, but you need a gyro stabilizer or a self-leveling camera (electronic stability)
