I've been natural for many moons and it has nothing to do with a trend. How can what I was born with be a trend. I'm not knocking anyone, but I feel that it is the other way around. Why work against mothernature. By wearing my hair natural, I can be curly today and temporarily straight tomorrow :D
i think natural hair has become a trend.all of a sudden everyone is going natural.for some it may not be a trend but just a choice and change in life and for others they just like the look of it.we see all these natural celebrities like solange who are natural and everyone wants that look because it's kinda cool, you know the natural styles and how you can accesorize your hair etc.but i think ppl are going to get tired of it and move on to the next...
I went natural when i was pregnant in January 2007 not because i was pregnant- but because i just couldn't stand having relaxed hair anymore. Maybe it was the hormones. I got my mum to cut off all my hair and i was empowered. I didn't think about what trends i was following i just wanted to be more healthy and my son to appreciate natural beauty as he grows up.
10 years ago the natural haired girls will look down on the girls still wearing the weaves and relaxers i think nowadays one can wear their hair any way they want. but i glad that there is a lot more naturals now.
I think many people also want to start living a very healthy and natural lifestyle and they are very concerned with what they are putting in their bodies as well as what they are using on their skin, hair etc., I also believe that many of us black woman are really getting in touch with our natural self and we realize that under those relaxers, weaves and wigs that our hair is truly beautiful in its natural state. As you I also hope that this isnt a trend but more of an awakening
I appreciate you making this video. I started my transition a month after I found out I was pregnant with my third child. To be truthful I only did it because the salons were too expensive and my pocket could not hang. However, not that I have had the baby and see my matural hair in its fully beauy, I like it. I have not gotten to the point where I am able to style it like you because I keep my braided and twisted for months and now I have to condition my hair so that I know "what it do"
I only transitioned for a couple of months and I have always had long, thick hair, even the woman who cut my hair was hesitant and she kept saying are you sure? I had never been so sure in my life... Ive never felt this beautiful. Society says straight and long=beauty... I say nay to that notion....
IMO as far as respecting the transition women should transition mentally before they big chop. This means asking yourself can you adapt to having nappy curly hair, embrace & learn a whole other system of hair care, are you as a BW willing to be comfortable in private and in public with your natural texture, gain confidence for any negative feedback and advocate politely the wonders of having natural hair, and most importantly loving your new found hair texture whatever the curl pattern.
I really hope natural hair is here to stay. I have been natural all my life and have been wishing for years to see more of my younger as well as older sistas wearing their hair natural.
I agree with m3shagurl...being natural is truly a MOVEMENT! It is an awakening to all the sistas out there who are tired of conforming to the world's standards of beauty. Being natural takes a special kind of individual, and because black women are often exploited and demeaned it is up to those who are ready to truly be themselves to show others that natural hair is beautiful, powerful, and monumental! I feel that being natural is a lifestyle change that comes with self love.
I think for some it may be a trend but for me I wanted to get away from chemicals, when I became ill 5 yrs ago I wanted to change alot of things and become more healthy. I have learned so much since being natural and I love my God given hair and will not return to a perm ever.
I have to agree. Alot of folks are scared and are not willing to try something new until they see others. They think and believe that it's not acceptable by society or they will not be looked as attractive. I am very proud that majority of the women I work with and myself are Natural. So not only is it acceptable by society, but it's also accepted in the workplace. I can only speak for myself and say that I did this for me and it's not a trend, it's a lifestyle change.
I do not know about anyone else, for me- I LOVE my natural hair. I have a 4 yr old daughter and she must know she doesnt need to put a perm in her hair to take care of it OR to be "apart" of a group or whatever. I done my BC a month ago, my last perm was in april of this yr. It has been a great experience for me. I am still learning BUT hey it is what it is.. I am loving my natural hair, my daughter is also natural and will stay that way!! peace
See I did it partially for my daughters too. I want them to KNOW that there natural hair texture is flyy and no relaxer can make it look better than what it already is. Congrats on your BC!
I'm 15 and I'm transitioning, but it's DEFINITELY not a "trend" or "faze" for me. :) I'm too passionate and informed now to even seriously think about turning back.
congrats or your transition. And your right, you learn too much to go back. A man's mind stretched by knowledge never reverts back to its original dimensions.
Due to frustration I can see it becoming a trend for some! Some people think that it's less upkeep, only to find that you have to do a lot to see what works, and what doesn't for your natural hair! Also, the lack of support from family and friends can make someone revert back, if they weren't sure why they went natural in the first place!
Yeah you are right. You have to be really motivated to actually go through with it and keep it up. I was just saying the other day that taking care of natural hair is more work especially the longer it gets.
natural hair is a trend for those people that don't remain natural in the end, and abandon their natural hair when they get bored or frustrated (meaning like if they decide to relax again) :)

Yes indeed this is not a trend. A trend comes and goes but natural hair is going to stay forever. I will never get another relaxer at all in my life!
